For quite a few years, I went to the Pivot Point salon. I’m a guy who wears his hair in a pony tail and hair cuts are pretty straightforward — all one length. I hate going to get my hair cut which is one of the reasons I like it long. I can go several months without a haircut and no one is the wiser. My pony tail just slowly gets longer! When I first grew my hair long, I went to the Hair Cuttery in Evanston a couple times and they didn’t follow my instructions. My assumption was that they felt they knew better what my hairstyle should be. With that experience in mind, I have been putting off getting my hair cut after my last cut at Pivot Point before they closed last October. Though the hair cuts at Pivot Point always took a long time, the students had mentors providing guidance so there was never an issue. With that said, I really needed to get my haircut — it had been so long so I went over to Great Clips the other day. The salon was quiet. At first I wasn’t sure if there were any stylists in the salon it was so quiet. Juan greeted me. He seemed a bit shy and reticent to engage. Unfortunately their phone was working. I called in advance though no one answered. It just rang and rang. I chose to take the plunge and give it a shot. I just would be as clear as possible what I wanted and would jump in if things weren’t going as I expected. My biggest fear was that it would be cut too short and I would no longer be able to get it in a pony tail. Second fear, just a messy haircut so the ponytail didn’t look right. Though I don’t spend much time on my hair I can be a bit obsessive. Overall I was happy and would go back. Finding a place to get your haircut is really just like developing any relationship and so far, so good. I received the cut I wanted. Juan did pretty much what the stylists at Pivot Point did for me though much, much quicker. He knew what he was doing. I felt like we took just enough off the length. I might have gone a little shorter though I’ll leave that for next time. Bottom line — since my cut is pretty simple, I didn’t want to pay a high price and wanted it done professionally. I got what I wanted and will go back. I will definitely consider increasing my rating after I return and for now it was A-OK. :-)

I hate to admit that I tried to jeopardize my hair in order to save some bucks. Tina who cut my hair was horrible and was not interested in suggesting a new look for my hair. She was rough with my hair and hurt me several times while blow drying my hair. And bizarrely enough, the place smelt of farts all the time. Other than the fact that you can get your hair cut for 10 $ here there is no other reason to ever go to this place. There are several better places in Evanston that treat your hair(and nose!) with respect.

Solid haircut(not great, but I wasn’t expecting great). Efficient and friendly. Best part was the price: $ 9.99 if you go in on a weekday before 11am. I’ll definitely go back!

Just got a fantastic haircut from Juan! He was professional, friendly, and a great haistylist. My roommate and I just moved to Evanston and have each tried different places in town, but were never 100% satisfied. We’re lucky to have found Juan!

We went in and asked for a shampoo and blowout, and they charged us $ 33 each. This as haircuts are being offered for $ 5.99. The service was nice enough, but the atmosphere wasn’t as there were two guys sitting about four feet across from me waiting to get their hair cut. Didn’t want to squawk about the price after they sprang the $ 66 total on us, but I won’t be going back. There are lots of other blow dry bars that charge $ 35 and spend much longer on you, with luxury products, in an infinitely nicer setting.

My husband also got great haircuts from Caitlin but the other hair dressers are hit or miss. Does anyone know where Caitlin went? We want to follow her.

Caitlin gave me a great haircut. I’ve been here a few times before and the haircuts were ok, the customer service lacked. This time was great. I was greeted with a smile and got a great cut. Ill be back next month for sure now.

My first time in this Great Clips. Very neat & clean & Roxann gave me an excellent hair cut. I’m planning on returning when what little hair I have needs trimming again. Thank you Roxann.

It was storming pretty bad outside when I took cover at this place that opened a few days ago. They let me walk my bike right into the shop! Very welcoming. They were having a $ 5 haircut promotion so I figured why not… I had given myself a haircut with kitchen scissors a few days earlier and it was pretty bad so it needed to be fixed. The boy who cut my hair was a little disappointed that I tried putting lemon juice in it for natural highlights. He said not to again. They care about my hair more than I do! I thought that was really nice. The staff is friendly and easy going. I thought it would be funny to do do hair cut like Natalie Portman in Closer. He said I should think about it and gave me slight bangs… I tried to cut Natalie Portman bangs that night and went back the next day to have them fixed. They were really cool about it and did it for free.
