Typical Korean offerings executed in workmanship like manner. But unlike other Korean restaurants in the Chicago area it didn’t offer little dishes of veggie salads and pickles. When I asked about them, I was offered kimchi. Have you ever heard of a Korean restaurant where you had to ask for kimchi? It was a little expensive because we had to order off the regular menu for lunch but perhaps downtown Evanston is more expensive than the rest of the city. My advice is that if you are in the mood for Korean within walking distance to NU this is a great place. But if you are driving from someplace else go to the city, or surrounding suburbs to eat. They are less expensive, it’s easier to park, and they give you the little veggie salads too.

There’s no other flavor besides super freaking spicy for my kimchi soondubu. There’s also nothing in that soup either? So I just had that and a bowl of rice, um, not worth my dough. This place is simply decorated. Too casual that it lost the professionalism for restaurant.

Well. This was a disappointment. New owner new chef and the taste was okay. I was quite enraged by the fact that they have horrible service except when you are close to finishing/paying the bill. The food used to be great(Dolsot Albap). The soondobu is very bland and more water than flavor…

Seeing such a low rating(3.5), my wife and I was being very nervous going in. Having eaten at many different Korean restaurant in Chicago area(DelSeoul, Crisp, Woori Village, AjoomMa’s Apron to name a few), I have to say this is one of the best tasting food that we tried so far. Del Seoul and Hwang DaeGam is pretty up there, but Koco Table surprised us with very tasty food. We ordered DduckBokKi, Cheese DonKatsu and Kimchi SamGuyp. All the plates and wooden dish was well maintained and clean which shows a lot for how they keep the place clean. Service was OK. They only had one server when we got in and ordered. Older lady(seems like the owner) was bringing out the food and asking if we needed anything but the server never stopped by our table(forgetting our teas and additional dish we were gonna order). Later on, there were another server came out to help but it was too late for us. I am still giving them 5 stars because the older lady took a good care of us and food was way beyond my expectation. We saw our next table ordering Hot Stone Bibimbop and looked really good, too. Next time.

I love the food at this restaurant. I always order the Beef Doslot Bibimbap, and it is always extremely tasty! So why the 1-star review? It’s due to the fact that the restaurant has implemented a policy of attaching a 18% surcharge(not gratuity) to the bill for groups of 6 or more. But that’s not all? They also are attaching an additional, and equally large surcharge if they have to split the bill. Today, this resulted in me paying $ 20(without tip) for a dish that should have cost me about $ 14. What’s worse, this was sprung on us(a team of 5 other coworkers was with me) when we got the bill… no mention of this new policy before-hand. We loved this place, and are sad that we won’t be able to patronize the restaurant anymore. It had been a favorite, but these ridiculous policies are very anti-customer, and there are LOTS of other dining opportunities in Evanston.

Koco is convenient for Northwestern students since it’s right next to the edge of south campus. The prices on everything are a little on the high side, but I have come to expect that of Evanston as a whole. Unlike many other Korean restaurants I’ve been to in the past, Koco doesn’t offer banchan, the awesome, free small dishes that almost come as appetizers prior to every main dish. Having being spoiled by other Korean restaurants from my hometown, it’s a little sad to not see them offered here. The food is good overall, in my several times going here I’ve gotten the hot stone Bibimbap, regular ramen, and the Tteokbokki Ramen. The Bibimbap is fresh and good(Though I can’t say it’s anything really special given the preparation). Both of the noodle dishes don’t really have a whole lot of value since it seems that they just use instant Shin Ramen for the noodles(or some other instant ramen) and the portions are not that big. I wouldn’t recommend the Tteokbokki Ramen since the soup got really thick and the noodles were pretty soggy as a result. Overall I think Koco Table is a good place to go to once in a while but I wouldn’t really characterize it as the most authentic Korean experience without the banchan and their medium-high prices. The service is awkward at times(sometimes they fill my water cup 40−60% full which is weird) but if you’re looking for a quick fix of Korean then Koco’s a decent choice.

I’m giving it 2 stars for old times sake. Ever since Koco Table switched management, the quality of their food has gone down the drain. One of the all time favorites, Soondubu, has even gone from a red-ish color to plain yellow. However, since it’s the only Korean place near where I live, I went again on Thursday. I ordered the seafood ramen, and on the menu it clearly says that there will be shrimp. However, when the order came, there was a meager amount of «seafood» in it, and no shrimp at all. After reflecting that to the waitress/owner, who did not even apologize or anything, they put the tiniest of shrimps into it, and what’s worst, did not bother to clean out the intestines. Just really gross. Pictures attached. Since I’m graduating anyway, I think it’s safe to say I wouldn’t be coming back.

Although the food is still good, the quality has declined slightly. My major gripe is the service. My wife and I have been here about five times since ownership has changed hands and the new waitstaff is lackadaisical at best. They never check on you mid meal which normally I wouldn’t care about, however the dish I order is spicy and I would like a refill on my water. Every time we’ve gone I’ve had to wave someone down because they are never proactively refilling water or checking on their guests.

Aigoo, what a let down. To those who commented before saying this is the only legit Korean food in Evanston, check again. There’s plenty that won’t screw you over with small portions, bland food, & overpricing. It could have been just a bad day on their part, i mean a reaalllly bad night. I ordered soondubu with beef. The first bite immediately tasted like salty water & I found only 3 small pieces of beef which weren’t tender. 10 $ for a small portion of salty water soup consisting of no beef or seafood flavor what so ever, fail. The size of the clay bowl it came in is the same size you get for complimentary soups at most other Korean restaurants. My boyfriend ordered the Korean fried rice. What can I say but mushy rice with not so great quality fillers which didn’t add up for the amount it costed $$, another fail. I might as well add in the lady who was our server took our order, never came back to fill our water or ask us how everything was & just tried taking our bowls of food away when we weren’t finished. Keep in mind the closing time wasn’t for another hour. **ZzzZzz I had to change my review, two stars was too generous. I’m never this harsh with reviews but it’s necessary for this place.

Changed ownership recently, the food has definitely gone down in quality. Significantly less beef in the soondubu, took all the fried rice dishes off the menu, and removed the fried chicken as well. No thanks, I won’t be back for a while. Also no lunch menu — another downer. Overpriced, worse than average Korean food.

I’m so upset at the new management at Koco Table. I used to frequent this restaurant weekly for their tofu soup and kimchi fried rice(although they took that off the menu for a while). Now, the kimchi fried rice is back as well as other fried rice options. IT’S TERRIBLEDON’T GETIT. It’s soggy rice, five tidbits of beef total, with a disgusting frozen vegetable mix thrown in. I’m a terrible cook, but come on, it’s kimchi fried rice. Even mine is so much better. Also, the tofu soup is watered down and tasteless. Also everything is overpriced. So upset. Probably won’t be coming here again. Lastly, the servers are mostly students but they’re pretty bad at their job and are always doing the very bare minimum. This used to be fine when the food was good, but it’s not anymore, so there’s really no reason to go… SIGHHH we need a new Korean restaurant in Evanston!!! Tips: –Pay with cash and get 10% off with wildcard –Ask for hot tea or kimchi on the side for free(still annoying because most Korean establishments give tons of side dishes for free)

Some of my friends have expressed dissatisfaction with Koco Table because they don’t think it’s very authentic Korean food. Maybe because I’m not Korean, but I think it’s pretty good. I’ve had the bibimbap, ddukbokki, and dolsot bibimbap. All of them were really good, very flavorful. However, it’s a bit pricey for the amount of food I got. It’s around $ 10 – 13 for a dish. UPDATE: For the ramyun ddukbokki, there’s a lot more ramyun than ddukbokki. I wouldn’t recommend getting it. Not worth it. I’ve had the cheese ddukbokki too. I didn’t like that much either. It was a weird concept for me to put cheese and ddukbokki together. My favorite by far is just the regular ddukbokki.

Koco offers a lot of your standard Korean fare, and being the only nearby Korean restaurant, I end up frequenting it against my will. While I don’t like all the dishes on the menu(neither the ddukbokki nor rabokki taste very good to me), some, like the bibimbap or some of the soups, are pretty delicious. I have a bone to pick with Koco in that they don’t really give you any banchan, or side dishes, which is really a staple of a Korean meal. The lack of banchan makes the price a lottle high for what you get, and I also wish the menu had more variety. The restaurant is pretty small, but they’re pretty good at accommodating larger groups at off-peak hours(I’ve come here many times with a group of about 10). The owner is particularly nice, often offering complimentary tastes of his«new creations» for dessert. I want to love Koco more, but it’s gotta step up a little and earn it!

I’m pretty sure Koco Table is the only Korean restaurant in downtown Evanston(which is better than nothing). I had the beef soondubu, which was served bubbling hot, with a side of delicious purple rice, something I enjoyed more than the traditional white rice. The one thing that was a huge turn-off for me was the fact that there’s no banchan, or Korean side dishes. :(I don’t think I’ve ever been to a Korean restaurant that didn’t serve them with your meal. Personally, I think the banchan is one of the best parts of Korean food, so for that reason alone, I haven’t been back to Koco Table. However, I tend to have really strong cravings for Korean food so who knows, maybe I’ll give them another shot.

This is probably the only Korean restaurant in downtown Evanston. Overall, it is pretty decent, but I’ve had better. Restaurant: Clean, medium-sized space, movable chairs and tables, with Korean music playing in the background Food: Ok. I had the beef soondoobu($ 9.99) and my friend had the ddubooki ramen($ 12.99). They were average, but definitely not worth the price. Service: Everyone was friendly and accomodating. One peculiar thing about this place was that they only fill water cups up halfway Overall, I would recommend if you are craving Korean food and don’t have a car to drive outside Evanston.

I’m patriotic, so I’ll give it 4 stars. After all, this is the only«real Korean food» in Evanston. Ultimately I’m not the biggest fan because most dishes are bland. Bibimbap boring. Soondooboo not spicy enough! The kimchi fried rice could be more moist, the kimchi more powerful. I used to ask the owner to sneak in some cheese in the kimchi fried rice because the rice was so dry and loose(he’s really nice). The ddukboggi is fun-ky. Why so watered down? I always get the ramen because you really can’t screw that up; it takes courage and tenacity to do that. Also, I gotta say, Koco is overpriced. Note: They close on random days of the week! More than once have I made the trek to go to Koco freezing my butt off and found it to be closed once I got to the entrance. Some weeks it’s Sunday(WHY?) and some weeks it’s a random weekday. If you’re hungry for Korean food and/or spontaneously want to run into all your Korean friends from the morning lecture — Koco is the place for you. If your standards for Korean food are rooted in your love for mom’s homemade dishes, call mom, tell her you love her, and skip Koco.

Apparently, this is one of the better(only) Korean options in Evanston. For $ 10, there are many choices — bibimbap, seafood pancake, tofu soup etc. It was a cold, rainy day, so I opted for the tofu soup. I asked the waiter on a scale of 1 – 10, how spicy the soup would be. He said 8. Thus, I told him I wanted a level 2 spicy. Unfortunately, my level 2 spicy had basically no spiciness in it. My boyfriend’s level 8 was not even that spicy. This is more of a fast food /café style place, so there are none of the little side dishes that you may find in more traditional Korean restaurants.(Oh, this one also sells Korean fusion tacos too, so yeah, not traditional). However, you can request for kimchi. Do this when you order. 10% Wild Card discount, but you have to pay in cash.

Foood is soo good and its location is so convenient. I love the bibimbap, kimchi fried rice the ddukbokki, and the soondubu. The food taste is a bit american friendly– it is sweeter and milder in spices what I am used to in Korea. However, when I am having my korean food fixn koco does the job. The menu is limited, but it does have a lot the nation’s beloved dishes. Hoewever, sometimes I do miss traditional korean side dishes or really heart warming stews, and Koco doesn’t serve the needs of korean food connoisseurs. The price is okay. I think they give a lot of food-well I am small so I like to pack up half of what I had. It’s not hard to eat the whole thing though, not at all. Most dishes are 10 – 15 dollars. I minused one star bc of the absence of side dishes and the inflated price. But the restaurant is always clean and staff are so nice. I love taking out– they give you thesr cute gummybears in a small container, when you do.

This is the only(worthy) place in Evanston to get my Korean fix. You can’t go wrong with any of the dishes. I’ve had everything here. C’mon, 19 check-ins, and that’s not counting all of them haha. My favorites are the spicy pork(comes with rice and salad) and Seafood soon du bu(soft tofu stew). Place offers generous portions and is authentic as it gets. Try their Korean sodas like the Milki — carbonated yogurt drink, comes in a variety of flavors. Warning: it reallllllllly bugs the crap out of me when they don’t abide by their posted open hours. It’s 8pm on a Saturday night; I have a huge craving for Koco, trek 7 minutes in snow and wind to this place, only to find that it’s closed. They’ve closed on many occasions when the sign says they’re supposed to be open, which is just bad business ethic. If they could stick to their hours, I’d give it a 5 no doubt.
