Let me start off by saying I think they add crack as a secret ingredient(kidding, kidding) I can’t wait to go back! This place has shaved ice, frozen yogurt, macarons, and boba tea. SHAVEDSNOW Snow Dragon Shavery and Yogurt(SDSY)‘s shaved snow comes in small($ 4.99 for 1 flavor, 2 toppings, & a drizzle), medium(6.99 for 1 flavor, 2 toppings, & a drizzle), and large($ 8.99 for 2 flavors, three toppings, & a drizzle). Their snow flavors are: original, green tea, strawberry, black sesame, chocolate, taro, coconut, lychee, piña colada, vanilla bean, mango, milk tea, tiramisu, watermelon, and red bean. They had an assortment of toppings including various popping bobas, jelly, crunch, Oreo crumbles, and fresh fruit. Their drizzle flavors are mango, condensed milk, caramel, honey, chocolate, rose, strawberry, and raspberry. FLAVORS(of shaved snow): –Tiramisu: It was heavenly. Not too rich, not bland, not too sweet. I have never tried shaved snow in Hawaii so I don’t know how it compares, but this stuff is like nothing I have tried before. It’s very light & fluffy so the flavor isn’t too rich. It’s like phyllo, but smooth and creamy. –Strawberry: My husband’s favorite. Sweet, but not too sweet. Creamy. –Milk tea: A bit too bland for my taste. –Watermelon: delicious and refreshing. It would be a perfect summer treat, but I have no complaints eating it on Chicago’s cold winter days. –Chocolate: this one was disappointing. The consistency wasn’t as light. It was also way too rich. I couldn’t finish it. I felt like I was eating a large, cold brownie. –Coffee: Good, but I still think tiramisu was better. –Mango: Delicious. Another hit. Similar to the strawberry(not too sweet). –Taro: I didn’t know what to expect, but this was surprisingly good. ICECREAMMACARONS I’ve tried their green tea as well as ube ice cream macarons. The ice cream tasted really fresh(no freezer burned parts, no ice particles. Just good flavor, without being to rich). Both tasted great! SERVICE Just note that there are NOSAMPLES. The flavor of shaved snow you choose is, well, shaved from a huge chunk of «ice» so Mike(one of the owners) told us we would be unable to sample the flavors. That being said, Mike was extremely patient and helpful with helping us choose flavor combinations. I can’t wait to go back and try the other flavors!

I thought the shaved ice lacked flavor. The condensed milk didn’t go together. You could freeze a taro shake and shave it. It would be cheaper too. In the Philippines we call it «scramble.» LOL For the ube and halo-halo ice cream macaroon sandwich, you could buy them at Fresh Farms and you’ll have 1.5 gallons of ice cream for almost the same price.

Yay! Snow Dragon Shavery is finally open in Evanston! We love the Chicago location, but parking is terrible there. The shave ice is the same — plenty of fluffy, tasty varieties to choose from. Lots of topping choices as well. Don’t forget the condensed milk drizzle. The guy shaving our snow was super nice. There are only 3 tables inside, but maybe when it gets warmer out, they could offer outdoor seating? One other customer got the macaron ice cream sandwich. It looked delicious, so I’d love to try it next time. They also have regular macarons that are perfect for smaller appetites. We are looking forward to coming back here again soon. :)

My taro shaved ice with the pink chocolate balls reminded me of a unicorn. Okay weird, I know… This place has been on my to-try list forever. The concept is from LA(where froyo, cupcakes, milk teas and other delicious yummy food trends have been conceived). I was even more excited when they replaced the old Red Mango in downtown Evanston with a Snow Dragon Shavery and Yogurt! Went with my bestie on a Wednesday night and the owner was super hospitable and explained the different choices and toppings. $ 4.99 will buy you a small with your choice of 2 toppings and condensed milk garnish. They have a ton of fun flavors(even seasonal pumpkin) and I’ve been told they have about 40 in their Lincoln Park location. I’ve had«bing soo» before in Asia– the traditional iced shaving dessert-but Snow Dragon’s shaved ice was different. It was very light, delicate, and smooth– with snow-like consistency. The shaved ice in Asia are actual mini ice chunks doused in condensed milk with different fruit/red bean toppings. I had the taro and my bestie had the tiramisu(which I tried) and both were yummy and different. The consistency is different than frozen yogurt and I finished my shaved ice in less than five minutes. Solid and a fun new place to try out! I definitely want to try the macaron ice-cream sandwiches next time… but to be absolutely honest, I’ll pass on the shaved ice. It’s too light and delicate for my taste, but I definitely recommend that you try it for yourself because it’s so unique!
