After 35 years finally found pastrami that ranks with Katz’s which I grew up eating. I stopped ordering pastrami after leaving the NY metro area after so many disgusting disappointments until I moved to Everett years back and someone clued me in. If you are from the east coast and home sick or have a need, get her and get some and don’t expect frills or pomp. If there was a Pastrami guy like the Soup guy it would be him LOL. but oh. so. worth it.

I can’t give a review about their sandwich since i didn’t get the chance to try it. I walked in on Veteran’s day to an older gentleman behind the sandwich bar. Stood around with my boyfriend and two kids for about 5 minutes. Wasn’t greeted or helped so we walked out. Poor customer service. Bad first impressions considering this would have been my first time trying it. Won’t be back.

I had heard about this little place about a year ago when the local paper ran a story featuring his business, and had been meaning to try it out ever since. I finally found myself in the neighborhood and made it a point to stop by. All I can say is: «five stars.» I won’t bother elaborating, you’ll just have to stop by and experience it for yourself. If you’re expecting some kind of «ambiance,» etc., then you don’t have a clue about what makes a good pastrami joint truly good and you should probably take your pretentious azz elsewhere. But if you like pastrami sandwiches, and you *know* from good pastrami, then you are depriving yourself by not trying this place out. Portions are quite large; one sandwich could easily feed two hungry adults. He also gets serious bonus points for offering pickled eggs, which are something I can not remember seeing offered anywhere here in the Northwest for the past twenty-some years.

It is as yummy as expected based on the reviews. I passed by a half dozen times between 11 and 11:15 and he was never open. Finally passed by at 11:40 and he was.

Delicious pastrami every time! Old fashioned service! Wish the had a fountain machine and took credit/debit cards but that doesn’t stop me from going there!

What held me back from 4 stars is slow service. With one guy behind the counter long lines grow and get painful especially when you see others getting their food and eating such a great sandwich. It’s hard to find places like this and I want everyone to stop by and keep this place going! The sandwich is great. Better than what you’d get at some chain for sure

It was a Thursday afternoon, and after reading the reviews about this sandwich, I felt compelled to try it. The sandwich was freshly made pastrami. Actually, it was being made when I ordered so Barney said it would be 10 minutes. I had a the pastrami as it comes. It had mustard, pickles, and pastrami. The bread, I think was a hoagie which seem fresh, but I don’t know if it’s out of a bag or cooked there. All in all it was delicious. But, there was no listing on the board menu of the price. I felt it was a couple dollars over a normal price. Probably not something I need to have often. As for the service, Barney seemed to be in a «mood,» not to social or friendly. There was two people in line behind me, and five people dining already. Must have been the lunch rush. I give it up to him for his hard work, but he should hire at least a helper, if he is going to be grumpy. I heard him speaking with a regular customer as I was eating. He sounded much happier at this point, must have been the fact that no one was in there anymore. Anyway all in all. It was a unique dining experience. It had cool décor of celebrities. The pictures had there first name, but there last names were changed to «Barney,» to match the theme of the place. Lol Definite a New York vibe in there.

Best pastrami, period. I’ve been to 100 year old and they don’t hold a candle to Barney’s.

Barney“s Pastrami is a deeply comforting food for me. This is because I grew up in LA. It may not be the case for New Yorkers or anyone loving Jewish Deli style pastrami, that being a pile of lean meat on rye with mustard. The most popular style in LA is the Pastrami Dip. It is pastrami that has a good amount of fat that is sliced very thin and steamed hot and piled onto the french roll dipped in au jus. Barney adds pickles and mustard. On the tables are bowls of peppers. Over the years, Barney’s has built a loyal following in his hole-in-the-wall shop by serving a consistently good product. I only wish I lived closer to him.

Great pastrami, sliced thin and piled high. Comes on a hoagie roll with mustard and pickles. Delicious.

Barney’s Pastrami is the best Pastrami your money can buy in Everett and possibly this state. David is a one man army, let me tell you that guy works so hard and I have nothing but respect for him and his food. One bite into his sandwiches and you know that he pours his heart and soul into the food that he creates for his customers. He doesn’t need a fancy sign or any kind of big advertisement to be locally famous, it’s mainly word of mouth and the people that do eat there go back again and again. Before I met Barney I have never had pastrami in my life. What an experience, walking into this place you get to see art on the wall of everyone that’s associated with David, the mans got at least a dozen different types of sauces that you can pour on your food. In addition to his Pastrami sandwiches, you can also have an hotdog, or chili or maybe some pickled eggs. There are also a few different kinds of drinks and chips that you can choose from. I can’t stress enough of how good the food is here I go once a week and sometimes even more. David is very friendly and I salute him. Barney’s Pastrami is a testament of how small businesses can thrive today and be successful. Thank you for making Everett a better place and giving us your world class Pastrami Barney.

Whenever I’m in Everett, I have to stop here for a Pastrami sandwich. It truly is DELICIOUS! My husband, kids and parents love this place too! You know it’s gotta be pretty darn good when even my 12 yr. old daughter finishes off one these HUGE sandwiches. Okay yes, it may not the fanciest of places and it does take the gentleman(Barney working alone) to make up the orders but it’s so worth it! Warm, tender pastrami with just the right amount of mustard and a few pickles(don’t worry, he puts them in for you to make sure you get the right amount!) served up on a soft hoagie roll! The hot dogs are pretty good too but it’s the pastrami we come back for. I recommend calling too if you plan to go later in the day… Barney is a busy man and sometimes closes shop early. I called today around 2:00 and he replied, «I think I’ll close around the regular time at 4:00 today.» LOL! Don’t let any talk of his being grouchy fool you… I’ve always found him very nice, charming and often whistling while he makes up the sandwiches. :)

This is a perfect example of doing one thing, and doing it very well! Barney serves other things hot dogs, beef tamales, etc., but the ½ pound pastrami is the bomb! It’s served warm on a soft hoagie roll with pickles. If ½ pound isn’t enough add more meat! It’s $.75 per extra ounce. You can also add swiss cheese, sauerkraut, cheddar, provolone, american and pepper jack cheese for $.50. Barney sells 75 pounds of pastrami a day and chances are, depending on the time, there will be a line! Bring cash… it’s old school all the way. No plastic accepted!

There are places out there that remind me of this quote from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy: «The Dentrassi’s are ‘The best cooks and the best drinks mixers, and they don’t give a wet slap about anything else’.» Run by David Barney himself, the place is simple with a straightforward menu. It will take time to get your sandwich; patience is key. This is *the* definitive pastrami sandwich place in the entire Seattle metro area. Worth the travel, the wait, and paying cash. Barney’s rocks the pastrami, and he doesn’t give a wet slap about anything else.

Amazing Pastrami! Every few weeks I gotta have one of these sandwiches. Oh man, the flavor is like nothing else. As other reviews have mentioned, the divey charm is cool! Barney’s a great guy.

Let us get this out of the way first, Barney’s is a dive, yes, but he serves consistently great sandwiches. I’ve never ordered anything else off the menu because there is no reason to, though he does offer hot dogs and tamales. Is it Katz’s or Carnegie Deli? No, but now you can get something similar in Everett of all places. Great, heavily spiced pastrami, mustard, and bread; this is how I suggest you order it: with lots of mustard. He does offer pickles, peppers, cheese, etc, but I think he, like myself, would look at you funny if you actually ordered it with any of those. Barney is a straightforward hard-working guy, and maybe, as another poster said, that makes him cantankerous – I don’t know – he’s always been friendly to me, just don’t waste his time when people are behind you(which is a good idea anywhere). To see that he is in fact quite amiable in comparison I’d suggest even mildly annoying a cook or server in NY. He closes when he feels like it and/or the rush dies down, and there is always a daily rush. If he is having an off day or has something else to do the shop is shut – get used to it – it’s a one man show. Maybe call ahead if you are driving from some distance(I drive from Arlington). The Ritz it isn’t but it is definitely worth what he charges.

He’s old gruff and cantankerous but don’t be afraid to go visit him, the pastrami is quite possibly the best this side of Brooklyn or as they’d say fagedaboutit

Dave Barney prepares all of his own food. Honest to goodness 1 man operation. Look at the last 60 reviews, he is a star in the pastrami sandwich world. Folks coming from all over enjoy his quality products and he is a quality Man. If you require a lot of service and a chain store look then you can move out of the way and let real Foodies get to the counter. We are hungry for the best of the best.

Once you get past the«hole in the wall» atmosphere, mismatched plastic tables and grit and grime, ready yourself for a pastrami orgasm! Barney’s limited menu is slightly frightening, but who cares, YOU’RETHEREFORTHEPASTRAMI! A half sandwich is all you really need and believe me, skip the kraut or cheese on top, it means MOREPASTRAMI! Dave, the proprietor, runs the place by himself and the meat is flown in from the Chicago area. Yes, the pastrami is dynomite! Melts in your mouth, has just the right amount of seasoned, marbled«fat» and boy oh boy, is it stacked on that roll! Go w/the standard toppings, pickles and hot mustard and again, skip the kraut, and dive in! Again, the other options on the menu are limited, you can get a «pop» from the cooler, some chips, but the whole idea is to indulge in that sandwich… and savor it… it’s a must! BTW, don’t bother coming if you don’t like talk radio or Fox news, it’s the only thing on TV…
