«So disapointed» Before game one of the 2008 finals between my beloved L.A. Lakers and the Boston Celtics I had been thinking that it would be great idea to go to Papi’s and have a pie with some suds beeing that I have been here and Ken(owner) makes everyone feel welcomed. I called Papi’s the day of just to see how busy it was but to my surprise the person on the other side of the phone did not know that such great event was going on and the meaning it carried. When I asked if Ken was in I was informed he was out of town but was not surprised since he probably went back home to attend the event personally as he has in the past. Congrats on your bought championship Ken. Celtics are now the Yankees of basketball!

Papi’s Pizza is so much more than just pizza. It’s a locally owned business and they treat everyone like you’re a friend of the family. They offer you the following in a number of tasty and hearty combinations… grinders… calzones… cheese steaks… hot links… pizza by the slice and ice cold beer. Here are my current favorites … Linguica Bomb Sandwich(Portuguese sausage, steak, salami, onions, peppers, mushrooms and marinara sauce)… The Fenway Park(hot Italian link, grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms)… Guido Special Pizza(salami, hot Italian sausage, mushrooms, roasted garlic, onions, black olives)… During the work week, if you’re lucky enough to catch them at the right time, they’ll fly the«free pizza» sign in the window and you can come in and grab a free slice or two. There’s not much else to say really.

Okay, I’m Washington State born and bred, so I’ve grown up far away from the pizza wars. I always thought it was New York vs. Chicago style. I never took into consideration that there was a third kind, Boston. I thought they were only known for their baked beans! I’ve always been partial to the New York style though, a thin crust with a delicious red sauce, not too much cheese, but enough, and fresh toppings. The Chicago deep dish is just not my style, it’s way too doughy. Well, Boston style more closely resembles the New York style. And at Papi’s you’ll have the best Pizza in Washington State. It starts with a thin crust. The crust has a wonderful flavor, it’s not just dough. You could eat the crust alone and be pretty happy. Maybe it’s the olive oil they spread on it to bake it up crunchy. The red sauce is very flavorful, with a hint of garlic and a little sweetness. The toppings are awesome, tasty pepperoni, and you can even get roasted garlic which I highly recommend, though you probably shouldn’t talk within 10 feet of people for the rest of the day. The owner, Ken is a really nice guy and they make everything fresh to order. Ken is from Beantown, and is a huge Red Sox fan. If you’re a Red Sox fan, this is probably home base in WA State. If you’re a Yankees fan… You probably want to keep it to yourself. To all the impatient people: dude, this is not a fast food place! The staff are busy artfully making you a delicious slice, so sit down and relax for ten minutes. Yes, it may take a few extra minutes to get your food but it is well worth the wait. I highly recommend Papi’s Pizza.

You ever just want a great slice in the North-end but end up getting stuck with the whole pie? Well, at Papi’s you’ll order a slice and want the rest of the pie. Ken the owner will tell you it real Boston style pizza. The big red sign on the front of the place welcoming the Red Sox Nation may be an indication of that fact as well. I don’t claim to know a New York slice from a Boston slice but Papi can make a slice or a pie just right. Not too much cheese… Perfect. Once I saw Ken brushing the crust of my pizza with a little olive oil. I asked why. He replied, «Because it tastes better.» He is right and I’m sure you’ll agree.
