First time visit to the Schack Art Center on 6÷19÷16, specifically to see the Chuck Close exhibit. Last time I’ve seen his work was decades ago at the Henry Art Gallery on the UW campus. This was worth the Sunday drive to downtown Everett. This exhibit is ongoing until early September, but it also featured art work from Everett-area schools. The Schack Art Center itself has a gift shop and dedicated artspaces for their various classes and programs plus is adjacent to live/work lofts for artists.

My son took a drawing class which was fun and a good learning experience for him. The instructor was patient and was great with all the kids. Given that, I was excited to take a beginning watercolor class — although it was with a different instructor. Boy was I disappointed. Even though it was a beginner class, the instructor expected that you already had knowledge about mixing paints and other specifics. He had a belittling attitude that was off putting. I wasn’t the only one having a bad experience, since the person next to me whispered«there’s only 4 of us in this class, so I shouldn’t feel so lost.» It was so uncomfortable, I didn’t return after the first class. I contacted the director with a list of specific concerns but she refused a refund. She was going to send a small gift certificate but that was 2 weeks ago and it has never arrived. The gift shop is fun and I love to support local artisans, but I would not take another class there.

We brought our daughter here on our own several weeks ago and also joined her class on their field trip today. The staff here is really helpful when you have questions and they were quite organized throughout the day when they had multiple schools come through for a field trip. Each group was separated into different areas so that everyone got a chance to get a tour of the art gallery. Then each class got to make their own artistic prints that they got to bring back to school. The art pieces are nicely organized and plenty of room to move around. When there is glass blowing going on you get to view how they make these intricate pieces behind a glass window. It’s great to stop by the with the family and check out what’s new in the gallery. There’s also a small gift shop for souvenirs as well.

Schack is located in downtown Everett and is a really lovely gallery space that has a museum-like feel to it. Each time I’ve been there, there have been three exhibits running simultaneously: a large one in the big downstairs space with its wide-open room and high ceiling; and then two smaller ones upstairs, one of which is typically works created by kids and teens. Schack gets very good major exhibits; for example, most recently they had a series of Guy Anderson originals, mostly massive oils on cardboard, many dating back to the 1970s. Upstairs featured works by a collective of women printmakers from around the Skagit Valley. In addition, there is a gift shop up front and a glass-blowing studio on the first floor that has had glass artists at work every time I’ve been there; it’s fun to stand at the large viewing window and watch them do their thing. Admission is free!

First I would like to thank Michelle at the front desk as well as all the other staff that welcomed me and my senior citizen group with open arms. Seeing the guest blower was a huge treat for us, then to see him in the newspaper the following day made it special all over again. The exhibits are breathtaking. The classrooms also have artwork on the walls which is nice to see as well. Even down the corridor to the restroom was decorated with artwork as well. Very tastefully done. This is a hidden gem that all should take the time to visit. There are no pushy salespeople. They just want you to enjoy the art and the environment.

Loved the gallery! I attended one of Schack’s Art Docent events last week and had a great time. All of the instructors were fabulous! The price was right($ 20 per person or $ 100 per school) and all the materials were provided. Overall, it was a great place to unwind the mind with a group of girlfriends, talk art and complimentary hors d’oeuvres! Our school brought 11 Art Docents and left with a toolbox full of ideas and inspiration.

FREE tween and teen art class nights once a month on Fridays. I’ve known about it for a little over a year, and I was waiting for my daughter to be old enough to attend(13 and up). The atmosphere was clean and laid back. It seems like the kids get they’re in on something great. A very safe and welcoming place for teens to explore or discover their creativity. They have all kinds of art classes. Worth a stop in on a business lunch to walk through their eclectic gallery, gift shop, and see glass being blown for free. Now, keep in mind Everett can be shady, BUT, GOODFORTHEM for bringing GOOD and night time use into historic downtown. It’s so sad to see beautiful but vacant historic buildings around this art campus. I hope they have many community events to come.

I had such a wonderful experience here! My Mom had always been telling me to take classes here… so for Christmas, I signed us up for a Vivid Ink Pendant class where we got to make really unique necklaces using fun materials such as stamps, ink dye, and felt. I didn’t realize that the class that I signed us up for was part of an «arty hour» which meant that wine, cheese, crackers and other snacks were available for us. Jennifer was our instructor, and she was so passionate and engaging the whole time. She offered great insight and suggestions when my creative abilities were lacking. She had time to spend with each one of us individually which was nice and the class was about 10 people which apparently is on the larger side. The only downside was that this class didn’t take up the entire time as indicated on the sign up. Most people seemed to be done almost an hour early. There was no rush for us to leave but once we had finished, there wasn’t much else to do… so we left. Otherwise, great experience. I can’t wait to come back with my girlfriends.

I love the Schack. I love what it brings to Downtown Everett, and I love what it offers those living nearby. My primary involvement with the center so far has been taking advantage of their classes. In the last 4 months I have either registered for or completed three. Each one I have participated in turned out to be a good value for the money I spent. I walked away with new skills, and some really cool projects to show for it. I think they do a really good job offering a wide variety of different media — right now the only thing I can think of that they’re lacking is pottery. Thankfully there are other great studios nearby that fill that need. I am really looking forward to my upcoming class in June(lino-cut) and can’t wait to see what else I discover there in the months to come.

I haven’t taken a class here yet but I’m so excited for the space. Beautiful building with classrooms, a glass work studio plus gallery space with rotating art(really cool, interesting art every time I’ve stopped by). Plus a gift shop with locally made items in a huge range of prices. I can’t wait to take a class at Schack!

I didnt know this was here, until I signed up to take a class and was amazed to find a whole new building at the address given. Apparently its kinds of new, with apartments up above it. Free street parking. Hot glass shop, and other rooms to take classes. Took a flame torch bead making class and was quite impressed with the facility. Its a great location and defintely brings something much needed to Everett. Upcoming classes look fantastic, I am sure I will be frequenting here as the years go on. My instructor was great. There are tons of bathrooms. Lots of art on display, a gift shop. Seems like they are hoping to do lots of events at this location as well, we stumbled across some kind of holiday craft fair. I am sure I will be back here many times. Glad to have it in the neighborhood.

First of all, I have to say that the unhappy experience from the«Schacktoberfest must be because it was the first one? And no one running the thing had a clue as to how to really run something like this? At least I HOPE that’s the case. Was looking forward to going here in the evening after a day of corn mazing, etc. Brats, brew, music, glass blowing. What could’ve been better? Well, alot as it turns out. Arrived and collected our souvenir glasses and drink/food tickets. Looked around a little bit(because there’s not much to really see) and then got beer. Unfortunately, they somehow seemed to miss Everett’s craft beer experiences and went with Heineken and Nut Brown Ale. Obviously had to skip the Heineken for the Nut Brown. It was ok — nothing great. Watched the glass blowing of a pumpkin which was very entertaining and informative, if somewhat hard to see because of the small area and the number of people trying to view same. Then came the hour long stand in line for a brat. Really? Of course, there were your usual line cutters and«oh, here’s my ticket can you grab me one because I don’t want to stand in line» people. Then there were the old women behind us griping about having to stand in line, laughing loudly, and then huffing about trying to make someone«pay,» if you will, because«they» don’t stand in line for anything! Yea, whatever chicas. Getting closer to the brats, noticed dessert(store bought items) was being brought out — so had to run get some of those things b/4 they were gone. Closer still to the brats and, voila, a tin foil container of a delicious pasta salad. Unfortunately, servings were smallish and you ended up eating the pasta before you got to the brats because you were so hungry. Then, finally, to the brats. Only they didn’t HAVE any brats! Guy ran out. Huh? Ended up with one of us getting an extremely small, wimpy hot dog and two others of us getting a cheddar bacon(although you couldn’t really taste either of those supposed ingredients) dog-brat thing. The hold up? The guy only made ONE brat at a time. Now that is a lovely sentiment but when you’ve obviously sold tickets to quite a few folks — this just doesn’t work. Then the trick was finding a place to sit so you didn’t get cold cocked in the head with the idiots playing ping pong. Really? Only decent thing was that they did come around and give you another drink ticket but — without really having anything to eat — should any of us have been having more crappy beer? Music was excellent. All in all, loved the idea. Execution was extremely poor. Would not go again.

Everett has a beautiful new art space and gallery! –Sunlight beams through an all glass entry. –The gallery showcases original works by local artists. –An open hot shop allows you to witness glass artists at work. The art center offers classes too! Visit their website to learn more about glass, fiber arts, silversmithing, drawing, painting, and more. Working artists can even rent studio space. Definitely worth a visit.
