This is my mom’s favorite place for Chinese. Big fan of the sizzling black pepper steak. The staff are always friendly. We ordered the Family Dinner for four which included soup and appetizers. It was more than enough for us. Great portions

The Chi Tung of yesteryear was quite good. Lets say circa 2008-09. Then, something happened. Their carpet got moist, their tables got sticky, their service got frantic. I CANNOT speak to the hibachi portion of the restaurant, but it is slightly newer so I assume it might be in better condition; however, the food is a big question mark. What really turned me off was that I ordered a Salmon Roll and it was extremely ammoniated. I thought the fish had gone bad, but the waitress insisted it was ok. Not wanting to risk it, I didn’t eat it and they wouldn’t reimburse me or credit me in any way. At that point, I was still giving them the benefit of the doubt due to the years of Chi Tung fever and so we went back. This time we stayed away from the sushi, only to find some hair in our curry. They were long, and did not match anyone at my table. Again, the waitress insisted it must have been from one of us at the table — no credit given. It was at that point that my friends and I went on a prolonged hiatus from Chi Tung. We didn’t return until late 2015 and it was only because we got a gift card from some acquaintances. Food was mediocre — nothing special about it, and with the floor still gross, the lobby still packed and the tables still sticky, I see no reason to go back.

I and my husband frequent this restaurant weekly, and have over the last 25 years; however, lately you can never get seated in the Hibachi room without waiting 1 – 2 hours. Even though tables may be empty, the host will tell you they don’t have enough cooks. We went there today(Monday, Feb. 1st, 2016) at 3:30pm and the host said there was a 45 min. wait. My husband went to the(men’s room) and saw there was room/tables available to seat in the hibachi room, however the host says only 3 cooks available. This never happened when Jinny owned the restaurant, even on the busiest days. The new owner needs to come and see what’s going on before he finds the hostess turning everyone away. We left and 2 couples behind us also decided not to wait. Hmmmm what’s different? I’ve sent a lot of people to the Chi-Tung restaurant, however, I and others are complaining of the wait-time, even when tables are empty. The food is good, however, someone needs to manage the hostesses better… C. Bingley

If there was an option for no star, that would be the rating. I was there for the hibachi. The cook was Kevin, he was sarcastic and did not pay attention to the special cooking instructions my party requested. He was sloppy and wasted more food than he served. I spoke to the manager who was not apologetic or accommodating. I will go back. We frequent the hibachi at church tung and actually enjoy 90% of our visits. I will not sit at a table where this Cook is preparing the food though.

Love Chi Tung! Always extremely crowded, but if you have patience, you’re in for a treat. I’ve had everything but the sushi, and I am never disappointed. Very generous portions!

The food is great! Nice staff! The Hibachi grill is a must try. They have a large selection of cuisines to choose from, Japanese, Chinese and Thai!

First time being here and we tried the Hibachi dinner. The experience was great because it was a show and dinner all in one. The wait on the Saturday I went was close to two hours and prior to getting seated in the waiting area there is a bar and I tried their Mai Thai drink for $ 7, it was really good but small size. Once we got seated we were served the Miso soup and salad. I enjoyed both, they were very flavorful and the salad came with a delicious dressing. The chef began the show and started with rice and catered everyones’ needs whether the liked eggs or onions in their rice. I also got the shrimp and scallops. I cannot stop talking about the scallops, it was amazing but the shrimp was overcooked and rubbery for my liking. We also got noodles and veggies as well. My date got the shrimp and steak and he really enjoyed his food. And for dessert we were served ice cream and I got the red bean for the first time and it was really good and my date got vanilla, so basic. Over all the experience was great and the service was nice as well. However I did feel like all the main dishes tasted the same. They had the same flavors in the veggies, noodles, rice, scallops, steak and shrimp. For two people it came out to be around $ 80 and I would recommend this place.

Started off my 2016 with a delicious lunch at Chi Tung! I’ve been coming to this place since it opened-my family’s home is a few blocks from here. I’ve had it all here: sushi, Chinese food, Thai food, Japanese food, cocktails, and hibachi. On New Year’s Day, I came for the hibachi lunch. Chi Tung is always busy. ALWAYS. If you’re looking for an intimate and quiet meal, this is not the place for you. Parking is always a bit of a pain, even with a ginormous lot, but things usually work out. We had to wait to be seated for our lunch because hibachi lunch does not start until noon. We were seated at the first table of the day. This place likes to seat 8 – 9 at each table, so be prepared to be buddies with your table mates. It doesn’t bother me too much. With hibachi lunch, I believe you get a great deal in comparison to dinner hours. You still get tons of food(except for the shrimp appetizer) and it’s about half the price of dinner. My husband and I shared the hibachi steak and shrimp with golden topping. We also split a spicy tuna roll. What I love about the hibachi here is that you get buttered noodles with your rice-this is the only hibachi place I’ve been to that gives you noodles. Also, the food is cooked in a way that your plate doesn’t end up a sloppy soggy mess of butter and oil. Don’t worry-all of the butter and oil and sauce is there, it’s just nice to not have it all merge together into some primordial soup of overindulgence. Service is usually decent. However, during peak times, it can be a bit of a zoo. This is one of the only, if not the only, type of place like this is the general area(unless you travel all the way to Orland Park). I suggest you give it a try!

What has happened to the old chi Tung? Is it a new owner? My last delivery order of orange chicken made us all sick I called and was told that the cook would be «talked» to, no offer of a refund? And what happened to the Christmas gift certificate? Too bad! We have moved on to Sesame Inn!

Been here at least once a year every year for the past 4 years. Place is great. Pricey but great. Average price meal for 2 people is about $ 70-$ 80 for dinner at the habachi grill. They show is great and the food is great too. It can get really busy on weekends so try to make reservations. The wait on special holidays can be up to three hours. Great for groups and dates

There aren’t many good hibachi places, but Chi Tung definitely tops my list. First thing, make a reservation! They are PACKED!!! Despite how many people there are though, this doesn’t take away from their service. I went with fried crab for an appetizer, which would’ve been super good except that the shell is still on many pieces of the crab. For dinner, I chose the chicken and shrimp hibachi. The shrimp are huge!!! You also get rice and veggies annnddddd noodles with your dinner; there is so much food! They also serve a special sauce called yum yum sauce with the dinner — be sure to get it and even take some home. It’ll go good with just about anything — like your fingers!

It was really really good! I usually only go to Benihana but this place was pretty darn good! Will be going more often. Also very fresh sushi! I didn’t give it 5 stars because of the time I had to wait. I waited 50 minutes just to eat, that was bad!

The Hibachi at Chi Tung is AMAZING! I have been twice since my first review. We went for lunch and it was fantastic! While you don’t get the shrimp appetizer or ice cream you really don’t miss it. The lunch portions are extremely generous! We brought food home. The prices are reasonable as well! If your in the area and have some time try the Hibachi lunch. They also offer an award winning daily lunch buffet that looked delicious and it’s about $ 9 a person. The last time we went for dinner it was busy but they took their time and treated you like they had all the time in the world! Dinner once again was fantastic! My daughter and I had the filet, which we’ve had 3 times, my son had the chicken and my husband had the scallops! The scallops were delicious and it was a huge portion! The red bean ice cream is delicious, it tastes like a cherry/strawberry blend! Try it you will love it! We also received a Christmas card with a coupon to come back in 2016! Nice touch Chi Tung. Thank you and we will be back!

This place is always slammed so I usually have my orders delivered or pick it up. The singapore noodle are my favorite along with the fried crab. The sushi here is always fresh and yummy. There is a wide selection of sushi here. Take out prices are steep if you can’t decide what to order.

This is one of the best Chinese food places on the Southside. I’m not giving it five stars though because they have been shut down by the department of public health a few times and that just really creeps me out. The food is really good(I’m a sucker for their crab rangoon) and if you come in for the lunch buffet it’s a good deal. I wouldn’t recommend coming without a reservation, I’ve never seen the place not crowded so you will have to wait quite a bit.

I am always baffled — I mean, truly baffled — at how mobbed this place always is. I’ve gone several times for the lunch buffet, and the food isn’t much better in quality than the strip mall buffet joints. Indeed, the selection is much more limited than those places. Everything here is either deep fried, congealed in a gelatinous sauce, or both. No calamari or dumplings, few fresh veggies, and you’re limited to one tiny cup of soup. The one or two times I’ve ordered off the menu, my thought was the same: I just don’t get why this place seems so wildly popular. The food is really middling. Maybe it’s that the portions are fairly generous for the price. Too many people equate portion size with a restaurant’s quality. Ok, the dining rooms are tasteful and attractive, and the servers are nice. And the Benihana of Tokyo-style cooked-at-your-table hibachi room in the back seems to draw big crowds, even at lunch time. But in the main dining room, don’t expect anything more than really ordinary Chinese food of the sort you can get in lots of places, just served in a nicer setting. For my money, the food at Chef ShangriLa in Riverside is better quality and far more interesting. Yes, Chi Tung has a wide range of offerings, and I haven’t tried any of the Thai menu(though the«pad thai» on the lunch buffet was just some dry, tired looking orangish noodles, no discernible meat, tofu or vegetables) or the sushi(other than what was on the lunch buffet, which was pretty blah and unexciting). Somehow this place seems to get propelled along just based on its sheer size.
