Cactus Jack’s Saloon & Grill

We came hearing the food was great. Got a great spot on the patio by the river. Very nice waitress, checked in with us often. Food was great. We’ll be back for the live music for sure.

This place deserves negative stars. I went there with a couple of friends, the oldest of our group is 26 and I’m 22. We all wanted to order drinks and the waitress took our legitimate drivers licenses and said she couldn’t serve us because they looked fake and made us leave. I have been to many bars in denver and throughout the United States and have never had this happen with the exact same ID, that I got from the DMV off of Broadway and c470. Horrible experience, not only would she not serve us but made us wait half an hour while she got other people drinks and took 10 minutes to even greet us. Horrible.

The place stays busy. Nice to go chill, have some bar food, and a few drinks while listening to a jam band. No, service isn’t always quick, but with the amount of people in and out, sitting at tables before they’re bussed, how could anyone tell you’re a new guest? I’ve worked in the industry before and I think they do a damned good job at cactus jacks. Don’t go in with insane expectations, it’s a bar above all else as far as I’m concerned– just enjoy.

My husband and I come here pretty regularly & are never really disappointed. Tonight, I have to say, the food was pretty terrible. We ordered the sampler & it was WAY over fried, the pickles tasted like they had been dipped and refried in oil over & over again and nothing really tasted «fresh» (or as fresh as should be expected from a restaurant/​bar). Our server forgot to mention (until it had already arrived & we asked about them) that they were out of chicken tenders and the rest of the platter did not make up for it if you ask me (I would feel differently if the rest of the food tasted good enough to compensate). The cheesesteak was lacking in flavor & meat but was okay overall. Nobody offered us a high chair for our toddler (I had to get up & grab one myself from across the restaurant) nor a glass with our cold beer. Overall, disappointing at best.

We went there on a whim last night and loved it! The drinks were affordable, I believe it was happy hour all day. It was also Wings Wednesday $.50 a wing and they were damn good! Our waitress was Brooke and she was also great, very friendly, attentive and all around a great server. She might be the main reason we return to Cactus Jacks over and over! They also have a couple fire pits in the back outside area which is really nice for the winter months.

Fun times, good bar food, great owners! Yes, sometimes the service is lacking, so if you don’t have time, don’t take the chance. Otherwise, I recommend the chicken wings – plump, juicy, delicious! You also can’t go wrong with any of the burgers, and their onion rings are yummy! Outside patio is the best in the summer, sitting right by the flowing waters of Bear Creek. Remodel is amazing – they did a great job! I need to get in there more…

The server was great but the management was terrible. He told us that our opinion didn’t matter that this was going to be the DJ every week on a Sunday. We are here for steamboat spending more money’s than the locals do in a week. Thanks for checking off a place Texans are not welcome for music fest. We will not be back here ever again. Don’t go to this place if you are not a local.

Love this place! They have good food and great drinks. They love this community and we love them.

Friendly waitstaff, great location, nice patio along the creek. Cool atmosphere. Wings were solid, so was their salad. Not a fine dining establishment and not meant to be. If you’re looking for a down to earth, laid back place with excellent service and solid food this is the place.

Ummmm can you say «best bar ever?» Unilocal wants me to type more before this is long enough to be a review. So just shut up and go grab a drink.

Great food and great atmosphere. I love coming to this place, they really make you feel at home, and their burgers are awesome. I hear they are doing more to their menu in the near future and I’m excited to try it out.

Will not be returning. Came here with my family that is in town and the service is TERRIBLE and SLOW. We ordered burgers and waited about 25 minutes maybe more. When the food finally arrived they forgot about my burger! The waitress said she has the cook whippin up a burger on the fly and apologized.
The burger came about 5 minutes later and wasn’t even cooked! Still completely mush! The waitress comped my meal and I ended up eating off of my moms plate.
The only reason I gave this restaurant 2 stars is because of the cute outside patio on the river and their fried mac&cheese bites were delicious.

Tonight I went to Cactus Jack’s for a burger. The only indoor seating open was in the Bar area, and no waitress was helping. After making eye contact with the bar tender, and after a while, she rustled up a waitress. I ordered the bottomless $ 5 chips and Salsa, which was decent, but the waitress failed to bring it to the table until just before the meal arrived, so I really did not take advantage. Then, I received my oddly small, and strangely textured burger. $ 10.50 for a slider posing as a burger. Not worth it…
I was not impressed with the service or the burger.

Can’t beat the atmosphere or the patio along the creek but the service is horrible. This is my fourth time here and out of my four visits, three of them have been on weekend and only the visit during the week when it was empty, was when we had decent service. If you can get over the slow service and probably having to repeat yourself to your waitress, it’s a pretty a good place to go for lunch and grab beer after a long hike.

We were passing through the area on our way to a hike and wanted a bite. My husband and my dad had been here before and said it was good so we figured we’d give it a try. I cannot speak for the food, because we didn’t make it that far. We walked in behind another party and there was no host at the door and no signage regarding seating. No big deal, my husband finds a server who tells us we can just sit wherever we like. We pick a table by the door and begin to sit down when the table next to us says that the section is closed. Again, no signage. So we flag down yet another server who tells us it’s indeed fine for us to sit where we like, so we stay put. Then a third server comes over and, with a crappy attitude, says «This section is closed, you can’t sit here». We said «We were told by two other servers that this section is open». He (with his bad attitude) says, «Well, it’s closed, you have to sit somewhere else». We left, found a better restaurant down the street with great food and better service.
If you don’t want people to sit in a section, post signage or have a host at the door for crowd control. We were hungry, you’re a restaurant, and we assumed you want our business. I will never return here. Very disappointing.

Came to check out the spot I have some fried pickles and fried chicken and the kitchen was so slammed the server said it was close because of how backed up they were. Bummer we just had a couple of local beers and called it a day!

Granted we went for an early dinner but this place is a win. A little blue collar, but it is a biker bar. Parking sucks, be prepared to walk.
Fried mac and cheese is good. Burger with green chili was very nice. All in all this place is good to go, I could see it be crowded during peak times or sporting events.
Only reason for 4 stars is its a little on the spendy side.

We went to Cactus Jack’s yesterday morning for brunch for 4.
Yes, it was a Groupon. We were there for over an hour only getting our mimosas after waiting 20 minutes!
We tried to talk to many employees only to be fluffed off.
We actually walked out which we have never done before!
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! I got my Groupon refunded, will tell all of our family & friends about the horrible experience and never go there again!

Loved the venue, scene and staff. Kicking back on the patio with some live music is tough to beat.
But take heed… it can take forever to get food and drinks, and even then, the food is pretty blah. My companion wanted green chile but it was out, so she ordered the red version. It tasted burned… like it was left in crockpot too long.
My hot wings were not hot and were barely sauced. I’d give it three stars for the scene, but the chow and service of said food was almost insulting for a place that popular. Maybe they are so busy they need not try and please.

Hmmm. The food is still pretty good here. But wow– last time the service was terrible. We came in the middle of a 3 day Panic run, so I understand the waiter was probably having a rough morning. However it shouldn’t really matter what day it is– there’s no excuse for frowns and grouchy eye rolls by the waitstaff.
The menu is not very veg friendly– although they do now offer quinoa/​black bean burgers… none of the ‘burger’ options seem to go very well with the veggie patties. It just seems like an afterthought.
My friend who is gluten-​free (not for trendy purposes, but rather she gets sick if she has gluten) ordered a salad with specifically NO croutons. Fast forward 1.5 hours later when our food came out (it was a busy day on the patio) and the waiter hands her the salad… with croutons on it. He shows her the order ticket and just says «hey, I tried.» No offers to take it back, no replacements, just walked away. When the check came and we paid (and tipped generously, considering), there was no «Thanks guys, have a great afternoon,» etc. Just handed us the bills and left.
The rebuilt patio is so great so it won’t keep me from coming back, but the staff should put a tad more effort into service with a smile.
