Homestead Restaurant

I went in for a quick bite and was so happy. The greeters were awesome. My 8 ounce steak was cooked to perfection, steamed broccoli and mash were awesome! Service was professional and friendly. I was there during peek dinner and was in and out within 20 minutes!

Excellent restaurant. All the waitstaff are very friendly. Food is great and they don’t skimp on the mixed drinks. All the customers are also very friendly, my favorite restaurant in south county.

The homestead is not bad. I swear every time I go they have the same items on special. The prices are low. I really like the white clam chowder. Clam cakes were small but tasted good. You can always get a good drink therethe pot roast special was really good & the fries were seasoned just right! The Caesar salad at the table next to me looked really good.

The food is very good for what it is. It’s a local place with good food and a cozy atmosphere. My girl friend and I go in a lot for dinner. We prefer to sit at the bar and they are always very accommodating to get us a seat at the bar. Lately we’ve been watching the NHL playoffs and they are on NBCSports which is only on one TV which they try to help us get in the right spot to see the game and always switch it to the right channel.
The bartenders are great! They always make sure to greet you and get a drink started for you even if they’re slammed busy!
The food is great. Nice portions and good quality food. The stuffed chicken parmesan is great! My girl friend is a big fan that they make practically any meal as a small portion. They even make the nachos half portion (which are amazing too!) If the seafood cakes are on special make sure to get them. They are kind of like clam cakes on steroids!
Overall, great people who work here and really do their best to make you feel comfortable and serve a great meal and drink!

Place is big and clean. There was no one around since I came in right after they opened at 11:30. But I hear they’re packed on the weekends that some of the cars end up parking on the side of the main road. Kinda old-​fashioned looking. Fireplace in the dining room. Hostess/​staff was friendly enough. I had Fish and Chips but it was the worst I ever had. It smelled fishy. The lemon slice only helped a little bit. The filet was very thin. And the coating was so soggy with grease. Same thing with the fries. On top of that, it was $ 10.75. Not worth at all!!!

This place is a complete time warp to another era. The seats and décor probably haven’t been replaced since the Eisenhower Administration. This place is the 55 and over Yokle Swamp Yankee hangout for Exeter. All kidding aside though, the food is good. I definitely recommend the French Onion Soup. I’ve only been here for lunch, so I’m not too sure about their dinner menu– however the sandwiches are tasty. You can’t go wrong with a grilled chicken sandwich. This place is kind of out of the way for me, however if you find yourself on Route 2 it is definitely worth stopping in.

Great place to go! Yes lots of us «locals» but that is what makes it comfortable and inviting! Food is always good and very friendly staff that go out of their way to make it a pleasant time for all!

I found this place to be quite cozy. I ordered the Baked Seafood special, and the Man ordered the 16oz steak with Bleu Cheese. We also had the Chili and Nacho’s for a appetizer, which was of massive proportions. The only downside was that the menu didn’t specify if the nachos had cheese on them (Which yeah it might seem obvious, but we figured it to be just Chili and Nachos). My stuffed Flounder, and shrimp was fantastic! As for the steak, it was cooked perfectly, and very tender!
The drinks coming from the bar were also impressive, and cheap! My gin and tonic was made with perfection, and I’m fairly certain it was a top shelf gin I was tasting.

I am a regular patron of The Homestead and can’t say enough about the staff which have become personal friends over the years. Don’t expect gourmet dining here, it’s good reliable food. The drinks are beyond compare, made with top shelf liquor, and reasonably priced. The bar is not intimidating for a woman who just wants to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink. The Homestead is a great after golf stop or after anything stop. I have eaten at restaurants all over the US and The Homestead still makes the best drinks anywhere.

We had a family function here after a funeral. The waitstaff was overwhelmed and rightfully so, as they were two people short and we took up the entire restaurant and then some. They weren’t that bad taking the circumstances into consideration.
This place has a old and dark feel to it, it really needs a pick-​me-​up of sorts, maybe new bright paint, bright carpet. I don’t know just something to freshen it up a bit. Just reminds me of a «hole in the wall» type place.
Although, the bathrooms were quite acceptable for a really old dusty restaurant, they almost didn’t fit in.
The coffee was good, the food, not so much.
We had an option of chicken, fish or beef. The chicken dish was cordon bleu, inside out if you will. The breading was flavorless and I’m pretty sure it was baked and not browned at all. I ate a small amount of the dry flavorless chicken, enough to take an edge off of my hunger.
My sister had the fish, it was obviously frozen and stuffed, not too awful but nothing to order again. The steak was tiny and mediocre but my five year old enjoyed it, not sure if that’s because he was starving or that he actually thought it was good. Who knows.
I wouldn’t choose to eat at this place again unless it was the only option.

In the hinterlands (love that term) of Exeter, RI there’s not a hell of a lot of choices for good food. Homestead keeps that a reality. While the food isn’t actually bad, it’s just so incredibly mediocre that I think there should actually be some sort of recognition for that accomplishment.
I’ve been here more times than I care to admit, mainly as a patron at the bar. Sometimes though, when I’m out with my wife and kids this just seems to be a fail-​safe when we need to eat and don’t want to travel.
I like the waitresses here, all friendly and able. They do try, and for that they deserve some credit — the menu has interesting sounding items, although I’ve never ventured far from the burger/​chicken/​bar-​food stuff.
The problem is this; It’s the epitome of Townie. I don’t want to disparage our Townies, as for the most part they are a kind and decent sort. However, there’s a certain flavor you get and Homestead has that certain flavor in spades. At any given time, 80% of the guests are over 65, and it’s a real Budweiser crowd at all times.
To give an example of the food, the nachos they serve use bagged round tortilla chips, like you get at Stop & Shop. These are in no way house made. The décor is unchanged since probably 1970, maybe even before then. The booths are shabby, the place has some sort of weird stale beer funk odor, and you’d feel right at home in your Harley T-​shirt, shitkickers, and jorts (jean shorts).
It’s an OK place to have a few cold ones, and maybe a burger. Other than that, it’s really just one of those places that you go when there are no other options.

The atmosphere in the Homestead is very cozy, especially on a cold day. They offered traditional fare that you see on pub menus across New England, chowder, clamcakes, fish, chicken and meat. I was very disappointed in their lack of vegetarian options. Every soup was made with chicken stock and items you wouldn’t assume would have meat in it did. I ended up asking for a bowl of spaghetti made with garlic and olive oil, aka Aglio y Olio. This is something very basic but very delicious if done right. Upon the first bite I could tell that they did not use whole garlic cloves but instead used the nasty minced garlic that comes in a jar in a preserved liquid. It tasted so unbelievably gross that I couldn’t eat it and the waitress kindly offered to take it off the bill. To sum it up not the place for vegetarians but their martinis are excellent! Very good price, very good pour and made well. I will definitely come back for happy hour, but not for dinner at least not until they get more vegetarian options.
