I bought an interstate battery here, custom ordered. They were cheaper than anyone else within 10 miles, including chains. I love keeping business local. Apparently they’ve been an interstate distributer since the 60’s and have a great wholesale loyalty price deal.
Who woulda thought? Win-​win all around. Nice folks too. Always a few nice muscle cars around to check out.

Just picked up my 2001 Honda Civic and I have to say these guys do deserve their 5 stars. They were honest, efficient and cheap. I shopped around a bit beforehand and was quoted no less than $ 500 for the work I needed and even as high as $ 900 at the dealership. I walked out of there today with a bill of $ 387. Plus it’s always nice to support a local business. Thanks guys, I’ll be back!

The one thing I missed about being married to my former husband was that when something went wrong with my car, he spared me the ordeal of going in to face a mechanic who with a few shrewd questions determined that I was utterly clueless and then adopted an obsequious and condescending manner that was almost as unpleasant as the enormous sums he would quote. I am grateful beyond words for Bob and Sam and the guys at S&N. My car has a lot of miles and has had many little quirky things that have gone wrong. Several times they have sent me out the door with out charging anything or only a nominal amount. They are extremely conscientious (double checking safety concerns), ethical, genuine, fair and nice guys!
I may just stay happily single forever!

I’ve had my ’99 Subaru for 6 years. Having a previously-​owned, 14-​year-​old car that I drive a lot means I am dealing with car issues on a pretty regular basis. I’ve been through numerous different auto shops, but as a young, innocent blonde girl with little knowledge about the complexities of cars, I am usually treated condescendingly, which gets on my nerves more than anything, and to top it off, I always get charged some EXORBITANT amount of money. I mean, it’s a SUBARU OUTBACK. Everybody in Northern California has one. They should not be that difficult or expensive to fix!
Now, S&N Garage has been in town for as long as I can remember, and my dad swears by them, but for some reason, I never took my car there until today. I am so happy I did. I called at 10:30 on a Monday morning and they saw me at 1:00. They fixed my problem (bad belts), didn’t take all day, treated me nicely, and charged me a perfectly reasonable price. I actually just came across a quote from another shop, saying it would cost $ 650 for this exact same job… $ 650!!! To replace two little belts!!! That quote was from 2 years ago. I spent 2 years driving around with shriveled-​up old belts that could have snapped at any moment and rendered my whole car useless, just because I couldn’t afford that ridiculous price. Then I finally went to S&N and they only charged me $ 129. It was about $ 35 per belt, and $ 50 for labor. Now this is a price that makes sense to me! I can rest and drive easy now because the problem is fixed and I did not have to spend a fortune, or do it myself… which I would have done if S&N had not come to the rescue. I feel like I can trust this place and I will definitely be going back to S&N for my next auto service.

This is the best place to get your car repaired or serviced. I take all 3 of my cars here. Every once in a while I get an estimate from someone else, but S&N is always lower. Plus I trust them as they don’t fix things that don’t need to be fixed and if there is an inexpensive way to fix something they will figure it out. The dealership told me I needed a whole new seat in my honda pilot, but S&N said they can just reattach the part… probably saved me $ 1,000-.

I’ve had repeatedly good experience with S&N, who are now my go-​to for tune ups on my Ford Focus. Their service is smart + honest, and I appreciate that most of all.

These guys recently replaced the radiator and fans in my toyota which costed over a thousand dollars. They forgot to install the insulators between the fan and the radiator. So the fans rubbed on the radiator and poked a hole. The fans came with instructions and install kit. It clearly states that insulators must be installed. I had to get the whole thing redone. They refused to redo the job or pay for it. I’d not recommend this shop to anyone. I’ll be taking them to small claims court. What they did is irresponsible and outrageous.

I finally feel like I have a mechanic who is honest and will charge me a fair price. They offer good advice if you call them and I feel like they truly care about my car. They are a small local business and they are really nice guys.

i sort of cringe, writing this, because i just KNOW that i will single handedly make it harder to get my car in on such short notice (tomorrow? sure, what time do you want to come in?’). but these guys are AMAZING.
Mechanics that don’t mock ignorant girls about their lack of knowledge, sure, but even better, that don’t snow them, either. Last year, I finally went in after shelling out TONS of cash at another mechanic, and they did the best they could do, reasonably cheap, which kept me in wheels for another year. When I replaced The Dinosaur with a newer, more reliable vehicle, I knew I would never never trust it to anyone else. I mean, I drive from Berkeley to these guys for OIL CHANGES. I trust them completely. Yay, boys at S&N! We adore you!

I have a huge ’82 Ford Van that I use for business. When I started the business, I had only 2000 budgeted for a work truck, and I was able to buy this old guy for only 800 bucks. Understandably, it has some ailments — an iffy transmission, lots of creaks and groans, leaky seals around the doors and windows; but, it’s been a workhorse, and the engine, all warmed up, sounded like a contented kitty. That is, until a few weeks ago, when I cracked the exhaust manifold on 580, and the gentle purr became a loud growl. No more easing in and out of my neighborhood in the middle of the night. Finally, when I heard one of my neighbors had my itinerary memorized, I knew I had to find a mechanic, damn the cost. S & N, right in downtown Fairfax, seemed like the place to go (and fufilled my pledge to think globally, buy locally). Bob told me he could do the job, but warned me his estimate relied on the integrity of the bolts holding the manifold. Well, Bob’s crew found the new manifold in Sacramento, had it in when promised, and turned the truck around in less time than they estimated. I’m back on the road, moving in and out of my neighborhood without raising a ruckus, and my neighbor wonders if I’ve found another livelihood. Thanks, S & N!
