Fitness enthusiast I am, good at moderation I am not. Last spring I managed to give myself some pretty intense upper back pain… specifically around the rhomboids. I decided I was going to a do a 6 week pushup challenge. Fairly simple, you find it online follow the plan and boom in 6 weeks you’re able to to do 100 pushups in one shot. Yea not so much, I managed to create a massive imbalance in my upper back, more than likely because I was not simultaneously training that area as hard as I was my chest/triceps. So the pain started and came to a head one day at work to the point that I thought maybe I should go to the hospital. A massage from a neuromuscular massage therapist relieved a bit of the pain but ultimately it came back so I decided to go see Dr Bill. He had been recommended to me by a friend who had been seeing him for years. First things first Dr Bill is awesome, he’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He asked me to get an x-ray before he would move onto any adjustments(smart man) just in case anything was seriously wrong he didn’t want to make it worse. When my xray had come back clear and I went in for my first adjustment the pain was still continual and it was beginning to be affected by my breathing(deep breath in, pressure in the area of pain). The way most appointments for me go is he puts on the electro pads to stimulate the muscles, then uses a big muscle vibrator roller to loosen you up further, then continues with massage if it’s still tight. Then he proceeds to adjust however he sees fit. The first time having my upper neck cracked was def a little freaky but you just have to let go and let him do his job, he knows what he’s doing. After my first visit I felt relief that was so very wonderful. He said I had a rib head out of place… I don’t know what that means but I was able to breathe without discomfort again and then pain lessened. I’ve been seeing Dr Bill since then and we’ve been able to spread my appts out from once a week(when the pain was severe), now I’m down to once a month. He’s pleasant, thorough, and helpful as can be especially if you are feeling crappy and need to be fit in. I am happy to say that after a few months, and following proper exercises that he gave me to do(yes you helped to create this problem so yes you have to work to fix it as well), I am no longer in pain! Every now and then that area acts up as it’s where I generally hold all my stress or if I get a little too crazy at the gym but overall I really am pain free. I had been to another chiropractor for a few months over a period of time a few years ago. This practice specialized in upper cervical adjustment, so no actual cracking, they used sound vibration to adjust the very top of your spine. I gotta say I’m a believer in almost anything but this really did nothing for me. I was going for immune support. I know there’s only so much chiropractic can do but it is a whole system… if the spine is in line everything else usually goes with it. Regardless I was skeptical coming to Dr. Bill after this practice because they were so hightech and almost spa like. I can’t say that they wouldn’t have helped me had I chosen to go there, but I didn’t. I would however HIGHLY recommend Dr Bill. He’s a fabulous chiropractor who truly cares about his patients and isn’t just out to sell you something. Give him a shot!
