I was there a couple of months ago. Can’t say that I’ll be back. First of all, the hours are not accurate. There is this completely absurd sign on the door that says something about how they are«usually open at lunch from 12−2ish, but sometimes not, and on the weekends, most of the time open until midnight but not every time…». This is obviously not an exact quote but there is a long explanation of what the hours sort-of are. I thought it was a joke at first until I then tried to open the door and it was locked at 6pm on a Thursday. Really? We decided to give it another try a few weeks later. It was so dark in there I could barely see the menu. We were the only people in there. We had dinner, I had some kind of fish sandwich. Bread was stale and fish tasted freezer burnt. My husband got fried seafood which wasn’t great. Again, the fish had definitely been frozen. 2 Stars because the server/bartender was very friendly and a great server. Seeing the place, I actually felt bad for her. It’s clear she’s not making much money there. Honestly, I’m surprised this place is still open.

Went there again the other day for dinner. It was a sad experience. It was dark, the AC must have been busted because it was warm and stinky in there. Service was fine but the waitress appeared miserable. I won’t be back ever.

I am being generous with 2 stars because the food is a good value. I’ve been here months ago with great service on 2 occasions. Last few times the service was awful. Bartender was alone and had to wait tables as well. The manager sat at the bar b-s-ing with people and never lifted a finger to assist. I brought the lack of service to his attention and he went in back to hide. Last experience, last straw. We called ahead to say we were bringing 20 people and to make sure they were staffed. When we showed up it was the same situation bartender only, this time no manager. The location in Stratford is great this location needs an immediate change of management!

I went with my husband on a Saturday at 1ish for lunch. The place was empty, which should have been my first clue. Bartender was very nice. We both ordered a fried dish with fries. I had fish and chips, hubby has fisherman’s platter. The only thing cooked was the fries and fried calamari… cod, scallops were pink and translucent. We were mostly alone the whole time as the bartender left after serving our food! Lesson learned… could have eaten at Duchess for 1⁄3 of the price.

I ate at this restaurant recently. I was surprised that it had gotten worse within one month since my first visit. My waitress was great. Beers were icy cold. However, before ordering my dinner we were told no oysters or clams right off the bat. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with American cheese. Was not asked what type of bread I wanted and a month ago I was asked what type of bread I’d like. My «prime rib» sandwich came out and was roast beef deli meat on sub standard rye bread and my fries weren’t cooked enough. Gets better though. My friend ordered the seafood platter. It tasted like fried frozen seafood. Fries not cooked well enough. One staff member stood behind the bar talking to bar patrons the whole time we were there and did nothing else. Our waitress worked very hard but the ladies room was filthy and our dinner was terrible. What a waste of space on the Post Road. Off The Hook in Milford does a great business and the food is wonderful. What a shame Off the Hook in Fairfield is so pathetic.

Finally a fun casual local bar in Fairfield with great food! The staff is friendly the food is delicious. Try the pork or prime rib sandwich on their homemade bread or the corned beef on rye. Great food at reasonable prices!
