Awesome buffet! Home cooked food. Had chicken and dumplings, hamburger steak, brisket, sausage, mashed potatoes, broccoli cheese rice, beans, okra, fried chicken and much much more on the buffet for $ 12.00! I a hige salad bar with lots of options. I don’t pie but the are about 10 different types of pie and numerous other warm desserts to choose from. Highly recommend stopping in here if you like home style cooking!

Great food with great prices. We had the buffet and everything was fresh and delicious. This is a small am and pa place that was packed. They have a gift shop you can check out while waiting for a table. If you pass through, I highly recommend.

Sam’s Original Restaurant is a sit down, family friendly, home cooking restaurant and gift shop. Friendly staff. Very extensive buffet. Can also order off menu. Very convenient for northbound travelers on I-45. Buffet food is average quality.

This is a good place to go if you are looking for somewhere to meet people or have a meeting. However, if your concern is good food, this isn’t the place. The buffet is your classic steam table, generic tasting food. At my last visit, the lettuce at the salad bar was old and pungent. Ordering from the menu is another option. Just be aware that if you order from the menu, you will have an unnecessary wait before your food is delivered. They pride themselves on their desserts. The desserts were good looking. The banana pudding was very bland and hot. I have never known banana pudding to be served hot. The bread pudding lacked a lot to be desired. But to meet someone for coffee and a piece of pie, this is just about as good as you will get in this area.

I was surprised this place had such amazing reviews. I am on a limited diet trying to lose the« Unilocal Weight» from too much good eating, but I am still eating. I stopped at Sam’s because they advertised a salad bar and buffet. I was hoping to find some lettuce or spinach options and fresh veges. On the buffet, maybe a grilled fish or baked chicken. Not so much. Fried chicken, chicken fried steak, brisket(greasy but looked good) and every side dish imaginable… Do not let my review stop you from checking out the buffet of fried and greasy foods, I bet they are delicious. But I was looking for a single option that was not covered in salt or batter. The choices were a mile long, and again it looked well prepared, but I needed a healthier option. The salad bar had mixed lettuce only, no spinach options. There were many«salads» on the bar, pasta salad type dishes all made with mayo or processed options. My salad consisted of lettuce, carrots, raw broccoli and olives. Nothing marked«light» on the salad dressings, I think there were 4 options of the regulars, ranch, blue cheese, italian and french. They have multiple choices for dessert, none that i tried, I stuck to salad bar and iced tea. So do not attempt to eat healthy here, but the food did look good for throwing calories into the wind.

Delicious. Every. Single. Time. It is a great place if you are looking for some lip smacking BBQ or a slice of homemade pie covered mile high in delicious meringue. Each meal is accompanied by a warm, fresh from the oven love of bread. They also offer a full menu or a buffet who those of you with a never ending appetite. Whatever you decide you won’t be disappointed and you won’t be leaving hungry.

What can I say? Food here is excellent, the staff is very friendly. They also have overnight truck parking. There’s a nice little country store where you can shop. Buffet is 11.99. You won’t leave there hungry. They have good barbecue on the menu if you don’t want the buffet. The dessert selection is great. Fresh pies and soft serve ice cream. It’s worth a stop if you’re traveling between Houston and Dallas.

Do not let the less-than-stellar appearance from the outside scare you away. This is a nice place to stop when you are traveling between Houston and Dallas and want to stop for a quick and satisfying meal. The buffet is $ 11.99, and it includes a salad bar, food bar with all the things you would eat for Sunday dinner as a kid(at least if you grew up in Texas), homemade bread, and PIE! I recommend the coconut meringue pie.

It’s a buffet. I already don’t love buffets. But all the fried and all the carbs and all the starches. My boyfriend wanted to go here so I obliged. He was driving so I go along. The salad bar did have a wide variety of toppings and the friend catfish was good. The dessert was horrible, though. Stick to the soft-serve. I didn’t try too much as I try to eat healthy and that is one thing this place is not. Its got a good size dining area and out waitress was very sweet and attentive. They do have a very cute shop in the front of the restaurant.

We stopped here on our trip from Houston to Dallas. If you want good, home-cookin’, this is a great place to stop. All you can eat buffet that includes fried catfish, meat loaf, fried chicken and really good brisket. There’s plenty for everyone with a good selection of sides and salad bar. The dining room is huge and there’s a cute gift shop when you check out. The wait staff was very friendly and made sure our drinks were always full. The deserts were not that great, but for what you pay for you won’t leave disappointed. Again, highly recommend the fried chicken and brisket.

So so average, nothing special. Fried chicken with errrr more fried chicken some overly salty pieces of ham Some corn bread, usual horrible gravy. One thing the fresh loaf of bread was warm and delicious, went well with vegetable soup I would give 2 stars for food, the 3rd star is for the waitress Brittany. Kind caring considerate and a lovely smile. My only other complaint is that they should have a dress code! Looks like a real low class Walmart customer convention. If your fat people cover the hell up!!! Ewwww

The problem I have with many buffets is the way things are picked over and shit looks like a tornado blew through. Not here. Everything is great. The bread is delicious and desserts are wonderful, the buffet is $ 12 without drink. Many meat options not just chicken. The salad and home made soups are a nice touch too. It’s a huge place so don’t let the big crowd worry you. They also have a menu with smaller portions for those buffet challenged. Breakfast buffet too.

Show up here with your appetite and a person who doe not mind hard labor because you are going to leave Sam’s in a Wheelbarrow after gorging yourself. Sam’s is a bastion of a buffet on the way to Houston that you should stop by at least once in your life for the fried chicken, salad bar and the lemon meringue pie. The place is very spacious and actors to travelers and locals alike. The waitresses are very friendly and are eager to answer your questions about the buffet and menu. The food is pretty good overall, and is above a Golden Corral or Chinese buffet restaurant. The standouts here are: the bread, stuffing, potatoes, bbq, fried chicken and the desserts. The lemon meringue pie and the pumpkin pie were very tasty. On your next travel to Houston or DFW stop by Sam’s for a buffet treat at a reasonable price.

Church Supper Good! If you have never been to a Southern church supper, you’ve been missing something… but you can find it here! You can go on their webiste before you arrive, and see what they have n the buffet that day. The price is reasonable(I ate my eight in desserts, and that bread… oh, that bread!). Begin by getting seated, having a nice chat with your personable waitress, and order some sweet tea. When she brings the bread, eat some of it while it’s hot(it’s a yeast raised bread with a bit of cornmeal added, to achieve perfection). We enjoyed their turkey and dressing(which is a great casserole, and they have the gravy to match(giblet). fried chicken; again, with the proper gravy(cream), green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes. We didn’t waste space with the salad bar, though it is good, although we did have a few bites of the broccoli salad, as it is a classic, and very tasty. As you get your main dish plate(s!), be sure to grab the coconut or chocolate pie, if they are your #1 choice, before they run out. We also tried the cake and the chess pie, although neither were as good as the coconut and chocolate pie. The hot berry cobbler, with some ice cream added from their machines, was just this side of heaven. Worth the calories, carbs, or whatever evill you usually chase away on the treadmill. Live a little… and do it at Sam’s!

Buffet style southern foods. Fried chicken, chicken fried steak, brisket, mashed potatoes, and on and on. Whats not to like. Food was tasty. Service was the only thing that hurt the score. Too many servers just standing around talking. Big variety of pies for deserts!

This is a place we stop for dinner on our way to Galveston and spend the night. Sam’s has a great buffet with lots of good home cooking on it. The service is fast and friendly. All in all it’s a great place for the road weary traveler to stop rest and fill their belly. Be sure and try the pie!

On the way back from Galveston, my friends and I were starving and found this restaurant’s sign about 20 miles before it came up. And then every 5 miles afterwards. I looked it up on my handy dandy Unilocal app and was pleased to see that they do a little BBQ and country style cooking. For 11.99 you can eat at their buffet line which includes: ham, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, brisket and a lot of sides, including two kinds of cornbread dressings. I really appreciated the cleanliness of the salad bar and was happy to see they had green tomatoes(relish-like goodness) and pickled okra, which I don’t see too often. Definitely worth the price, especially considering the plethora of pies they prominently display at the end of the line, teasing its patrons with a nice healthy dose of sugar to end the already fattening meal. Random Note: I loved how this place, upon entering the questionable building, was 1. Bigger than it appeared and 2. Filled with people of all ethnicities and ages. I guess being from a small town I noticed stuff like that a lot. Here, it was like being in Dallas, which was nice. Go go roadside restaurants!
