Symmes Tavern is more bar than restaurant. The food is nothing to get excited about. I’m sure most dishes are pre made from the supplier ready to drop in the deep fryer. The Cuban sandwich is different and good. The steak is terrible — thin and way overcooked. The last time we went the entier restaurant was playing an annoyingly loud trivia game over the PA system.

Been there are few times and have sat at the bar. The bartenders are very nice and attentive. Have had a few items from the menu and they were good. Everyone is always nice.

Had a party of 22 with reservations for a Christmas Eve dinner. They apparently are not good at writing them down. Though we knew the name of their reservation lady and called them four times changing the number of people, the GM called us liars having no sympathy that we had 22 people waiting. Go next door to LaPinata.

Nice Place, Great Place, and start of Hero Ride Every Year… Everyone is always nice, you have to go check it out.

My sandwich was gross and the service was TERRIBLE. The server blamed her lack of service on a «twenty top» outside. Sorry but no. There was no twenty top outside. The place was dead. Bleh. Save your money.

Crap service, crap food. Wasted my money here with my family while celebrating my mom’s birthday. Our server disappeared for blocks of 20 minutes repeatedly during our visit. We wanted more drinks but our server was MIA and the guy at the bar acted like we weren’t his problem. The food was mediocre and overpriced. My niece’s potato chips were obviously the crumbs from the bottom of the bag — barely a whole chip on her plate. Everyone who had French fries said they were obviously freezer burnt. I’m not a picky lady but I will never spend my money here again.

New to the area I was looking forward to trying the various places near me. The first time I came here I suggested it as a meeting place for a business partner of mine who was coming to town from Indianapolis. The food was actually very good but the service was not good at all. We had to holler for our waiter whenever we needed basic things like refills and our waiter seemed very annoyed by that. A few months later I tried again. My wife and I went in — sat, waited and waited as waiters walked by never even saying so much as we’ll be with you shortly or would you like a drink. We decided to just leave and go some where else. Very nice looking place– the food(when I did eat) was great but the service was not.

I’d say 3 stars works for this place. Lots of food options(if you’re a meat eater) but if not, you just gotta make it work! The place is a nicer tavern and we were in the party room, so we got a bit quieter area. There was only one guy serving the whole room of about 3 different groups and probably 30 people! He did a great job under those circumstances! I’m just surprised they didn’t prepare for our big group that they knew was coming. But I’m gonna say I’ll probably not be back here often.

Symmes was a pleasant surprise when I stopped in Saturday night for dinner. The servers were nice and the atmosphere was laid back. There was a big mix of patrons, ranging from families with children to what looked like college students. The beers were cheap, and the food was reasonable. I ordered the mozz sticks for an app. This is a hard dish to mess up, and theirs was really good. While I know they weren’t homemade, they were still damn good. Really crispy and the marinara sauce was solid. For my entrée I ordered the fish sliders. These were amazing. Big pieces of fried fish on a soft bun, with chips and coleslaw on the side. My only complaint was they were out of tartar sauce, which was weird because they have a special lent menu right now, so you’d think they would plan for that and have extra in stock, knowing more people would be ordering fish dishes. But oh well, it wasn’t a big deal, the sliders were still kick ass. There was band playing, which wasn’t too bad. I will definitely be coming back, especially when the weather is nicer so I can sit outside.

This place has terrible food. I ordered the fench dip which left much to be desired. Onion strings were under cooked. I think the fryer oil was as old as the clientele. I’ll stick to the beer. Probably won’t go back.

Started out with a dirty table which was cleaned with a dry rag, not to mention witnessing the surrounding tables cleaned in the same fashion. Contemplated staying, but we were already here and I was hungry. I made sure my utensils did not touch the table. Started with a Angry Orchard and ordered house salad with the calzone. Beer selection was unimaginative. Salad was plain, but crisp and fresh. Good blue cheese dressing. Calzone was tasty and Filling. Service was slightly slow and Pre-busing was nonexistent. Had to wait for a while for the check, looking at our dirty plates. I rate the food at an A– and the service at a C-. Probably will not be back. If you’re looking for somewhere to get a bite of food then this is the place for you. If you’re looking for a dining experience, stay home.

I am giving this place 4 stars based upon the fact that it is bar food, and for bar food it’s probably four stars. You would not consider this a place to go for your birthday. However for a nice place to grab a burger, or some ribs, or even the pot roast, it is a bargain and the food is relatively good. They often have live entertainment outside during the summer and it is a nice place to eat out there. However, outside seating is limited. They have a nice selection of beer but not really extensive but also not expensive. Food prices are also very reasonable. The help can run hot and cold. All in all, if you’re in the area and the choice is between Applebee’s and here, I would eat here simply because it is not a chain and it is at least as good as Applebees but cheaper in my opinion.

My friend and I went here for dinner on a Thursday evening. I ordered a burger medium-well. When I got it, it was a beautifully hand-pattied burger. Unfortunately, it was severely undercooked. I told the server and he brought me a new burger, but it was obviously processed or frozen. It was perfectly shaped and not very thick, like a quarter-pound frozen patty would be. This place has been going downhill for months now. It’s a shame because they have a good location and a goldmine if they would do a better job at food prep.

Don’t get the shrimp platter. Fries are undercooked and bland. Shrimp is over cooked and dropping with oil. I will never order this ever again.

Server was sulky, sullen, and slow. Typical American pub fare, food was good, not great. Would have been a three star first visit, but for the unpleasant, almost hostile attitude of the waitress, her complete and utter lack of customer service skills, and the lack of attention. It’s a big place with a HUGE oval bar as the central attraction. Televisions everywhere, I saw a Keno screen but did not observe the self serve lottery machines. They must have them, a place this size could never handle having the bartenders run the tickets for Keno. There are booths set off by a low wall to create a separate dining area meant to be more restaurant than pub. Two outdoor seating areas, one of which seemed a little too crowded, too many tables. Also there is no «buffer zone» between the outdoor seating and the passersby which to me does not make for a good outdoor experience. A solo singer with electric piano was performing the Sunday afternoon we were there, and he was quite good. I expect to be in the vicinity again before the summer is out and am willing to give them another try.

Happy Hour on a Saturday!!! Went here to watch the football game with friends, they have lots of Tvs and Keno. They had half off apps and 40 cent wings during happy hour. Domestic drafts were $ 1.88!!! Waitress was friendly and they had good shot specials for fall. Food was delicious and beers were cold. We will definitely be back when in Cincy.

Like most pubs, it seems to be hit or miss. I have been twice, had the fried shrimp both times. The first time, they were amazing, best beer batter fried shrimp ever. the second, not as tasty or fresh, and the batter was soggy on the bottom.

I’ve been to the tavern a few times and each time I went was for a different reason. I’ve only gone there once with the intention of having dinner, and the other times were to meet friends or to have a drink. I really enjoyed it here and the people were friendly and the service has been fast every time. When we went they had a D.J. playing some dance music outside, but they had to stop at 11 because of the noise ordinance. She moved inside for a bit, but didn’t stay long. I was hoping to dance for awhile, but I still had a great time. The prices were reasonable and the food was tasty. I’ll definitely go back.

We happened to be on this side of town and were looking for a place to watch the Bengals game. It is a pretty typical sports bar kind of place. It is connected to a full restaurant on the other side. The reason it gets only 2 stars is the service. We waited 15 minutes just to have our drink orders taken. After that we had to track down our waitress to get another beer. We ordered cheese fries which were pretty good bar food. The place was pretty average with terrible service, would not go back.

Great local bar with live music and good food. Get the bacon cheese fries with ranch. You do have to ask for the ranch tho. We get it every time and are never disappointed! There is Trivia Night every Tuesday at 6pm. It’s always fun and you can win a free appetizer if you win a round. Also they have really inexpensive, delicious dessert, specifically the brownie sundae. The portion is huge(2 people can share) and its around 4 dollars. As far as service it is hit and miss. When we go to trivia we try to sit in the booths closest to the window since it is our favorite servers section. He is quick attentive and very friendly! We have sat on the opposite side and get stuck with an older woman that could care less if you want or need anything. Overall it is an enjoyable place to go with good food and decent drink specials. Give it a try!
