Last night was my friend’s birthday and she insisted on going to a Chinese Buffet for dinner. So nine of us arrived at the Peking Palace in Fairhaven around 7:30pm. The place was dead. There were only two other tables in the restaurant with people seated. There was plenty of room for our large group in the restaurant. After scanning the buffet the food appeared to be very picked over. It didn’t look like they were willing to whip out any more food from the kitchen to restock the buffet either. I tried the honey chicken, chicken and vegetables and the fried pork rice, all of which I found to be cold once I got back to the table. The taste wasn’t that great, and I had to really stab at the honey chicken to get through the outer crust with my knife, not the most pleasant experience for cutting up chicken that should be somewhat soft to cut through. Our waitress came back to get a 2nd round of drink orders WHILESHEWASONHERCELLPHONE! Excuse me, I don’t care if you’re the owner of the restaurant but you don’t approach a table while you’re on your cellphone! What was she thinking? I figured dessert had to be better than the rest of the food. Boy was I wrong. Even the pineapple chunks were warm and sour like they had been left out all day, and the cake squares with chocolate on top tasted like I was biting into a piece of foam. Not pleasant. The entire meal was $ 9.95 per person. We probably stayed too long. The restaurant closed at 9 and we were out the door at 9:05 after getting plenty of looks from the staff. Sorry we had no idea it closed at 9:00. Even so, they could of said something rather than glaring at us.
