I meet my daughter and grandsons here for breakfast periodically on Fridays. I think it is agreat place especially accomodating to people with small children. Food is traditional breakfast food, tasty and promptly served. Welcome change from cookie-cutter chain breakfast places. Part of it’s charm is just that. Not perfect, just a great little place.

Food is good but he George charges $ 1.50 if you split a meal. For that reason I would not go there. Very nice waitresses but I wont pay extra because Im splitting a meal with my wife.

Food was great. Prices great. Waitress’s great. Owner watches his staff like a hawk. Makes them noticeably uncomfortable, and makes the customers uncomfortable.

I really want to like this place. I’m just not sure why. Maybe it’s the mom-and-pop feel. Or perhaps it has something to do with the coziness and local appeal. I mean, the service isn’t slow, prices are right and the breakfasts are generally tasty. On the flipside, the parking situation can be atrocious. And a request for eggs over medium will beget a watery mess. A significant percentage of your toast may arrive charred. Their version of a large OJ is something akin to the volume of a sippy cup. And the thinness of the bacon suggests that it’s apportioned with a deli slicer. So what is it? The Eggs Benedict is remarkably well done and the coffee gal makes regular rounds. Sides of sausage are tasty and the omelets are cheesy enough. But that doesn’t justify my irrational ambivalence. I’ve found it useful to summarize conflicting emotions in heroic couplets: Though better places can be found nearby, Happy is the man who gives you a try. Wherefore his heart warms at your welcome doors? ‘Tis the Highland Luncheonette he adores.

Quick service and decent food is the name of the game here. I would avoid the reuben though, the corned beef was sliced way too thick and was rubbery, and the bread was soggy. The reuben sandwich is, in my opinion one of the true tests of a diner, and as such I have to give Highland Luncheonette 3 stars.

Good place for breakfast or lunch. Consistent quality and small enough that it’s easy to get a server’s attention when you need something. Friendly staff improves the experience, but at the end of the day, it’s still a diner. They have a catering business too that I have heard nothing but good things about. Only negative is that their lot is really small and sometimes street parking is at a premium as well.
