This was a much better sushi/Japanese restaurant than in my home town, is the desert. Dinner with Tomodachi’s Caroleann, her husband Ro, and Heather. I had the Forrest Gump which was spicy and flavorful. It came with fried onions on the side which I didn’t expect. The roll was topped with very thinly sliced purple or red onions, jalapeños, and a few dots of a red hot sauce. I would definitely order this again. Ro ordered two rolls for the table to share. All 3 rolls were bigger than I’m used to being served. The other ladies ordered yakisoba and Ro had the Fallbrook Flower. We sampled the Mochi ice cream and the plum wine ice cream. The owner Steve came out and talked with us and joked around. I can not give this place a better rating. There is no trim for improvement. It was super fresh and great prices.

I’ve eaten here many times and I’ll keep coming back. They have really good sushi, but my personal favorite is the udon. Any time we need a quick last minute dinner we order take out udon, sometimes with a roll, and it’s always good.

So i hv been in Fallbrook for a year now and not 1– 5-star rating has been given. Today is the day. This place Rocks!!! I hv seen it many times, looks like some kind of back door fish place, WRONG! Well i was definitely wrong. From the quality of the food to the service to the management, this place in Fallbrook definitely got it right. Thanks for the experience, thanks for the top quality Sushi and thanks for our waitress Sya, she’s a «G»!!! We will definitely be back, very soon!!!

Looks like we have found our new Sushi spot! This place was amazing, has many options and the dishes we ordered were the best tasting sushi ever. The owner and his staff are extremely polite and super nice. The only thing is that it is a little pricey but hey… if you want some good sushi then you will have to pay an extra buck or two for it

I’ve had sushi in many places, from New York to West Hollywood(but never in Japan lol) The service was a bit slow, it was busy but their kindness was really exceptional. The sushi was delicious, fresh and big portioned. I ordered a roll with raw salmon and it was delicious. The salad, it had a non traditional white sauce on it, i didn’t love but it wasn’t too bad. Beef teriyaki was also non traditional, that was not a traditional teriyaki sauce, i also didnt love it but my 2 year old did so thats all that mattered! Miso soup, was good but had other things in there i didnt like so i didnt eat much of it. It was like tiny shredded veggies. Overall i would come back but only for the sushi rolls.

This is my must-visit restaurant when I visit near San Diego area for business. I live in LA County but have clients close to San Diego area. So once my appointments are done, I have dinner at this restaurant before getting back on freeway. Instead of being stuck in the traffic, I’d rather enjoy the fresh and delicious sushi, roll, sashimi with happy spirited owner couple. They are fun and nice. Husband is also a sushi-chef and wife works as a server. Awesome food and great service. Oh, please enjoy the scenery while driving to the restaurant. It is like a good, old town… giving me reminiscence of visiting my grandparents.

Yama Sushi is great. The owner Steve does a great job managing his place. The food is fresh and tastes great. They have a creative selection of rolls which I love. The prices are fair and the waitresses are very attentive. I highly recommend this little gym if you’re in the Brook.

Best sushi place… wish I had found them sooner! Food was excellent and service was spot on… like others have stated owner fist bumps you and they definitely remember their regulars! Sadly we are military and leave in 2 weeks… definitely put this place on your restaurant map!

Visiting Fallbrook and saw Yama tucked away in the shopping center. I’m not a real sushi guy but I do like my bento boxes. The special of the day I had was really good. My only observation was the teriyaki chicken was cut in pieces. Everything very fresh and service was quick. I wouldn’t know if they greeted me properly but they did say thank you as I left. Also, I’m sure it will be the only Japanese restaurant playing George Jones…

Used to live in Fallbrook and frequented Yama, 10 years ago. We’ve come back to visit several times over the years. While it was never a stand– out restaurant, it was reliable and good. Tonight’s visit was quite a disappointment. There were 4 of us and our selections tasted off. The salad dressing was a tad too tart. The bulkogi was a tad too salty and dry, the tempura was not as crisp. If one selection were off, okay, there’s other things on the plate. But, with everything a tad off, there was only the rice left to enjoy. Nice slick menus, too much obsequiesness, not enough care in the kitchen. Sad to cross it off my list of reliables.

Love this place! I just discovered this little gem a few months ago, even though I’ve lived here for over a decade. I really only started loving sushi this past year and have been afraid to try different places. I keep hearing about Yama sushi and seeing people post about the deliciousness that occurs there, so I decided to give it a shot a few months ago on a leisurely day off. Well, now I’m hooked and so is my husband! He doesn’t like raw sushi, just the cooked stuff, but I love raw, sashimi, eel, tuna, spicy tuna, masago, all of it that I’ve tried so far. Haven’t really found anything that I don’t like yet. As long as I can put soy sauce and wasabi on it… I’m good! I’ve had their Forest Gump roll, spicy tuna roll with tuna on top, tempura shrimp roll with tuna on top, the Mexican, and a few other things that I can’t recall the name of, but everything I’ve tried so far has been so fresh and beautifully prepared that I’m kind of mad at myself for not trying this place sooner! The people that work here are so nice and attentive. They make you feel right at home. I’ve only eaten in the restaurant once, but pick up orders to go quite frequently. My husband orders the cooked menu items, like the tiger roll and another one that was tempura fried and had cream cheese in it. He loved both of his rolls equally. Stopped by to grab a roll for lunch today. It was ready in under 5 minutes and so fresh and had an amazing flavor combination. I will try to remember not to inhale it next time and take a photo first, but no promises. Eat here… you will be happy you did!

Love this place! The sushi is fresh and amazing! I haven’t had a bad roll yet! Service is friendly, fast, and amazing! But what blows this place out of the water compared to other sushi places is the«fallbrook flower»! It is literally the best thing I have ever eaten! It’s the stuff dreams are made of!

My family was craving Japanese food when we finally tried Yama, it was alright. One of the first things we noticed was that the greeting was timely, but more of a joke. I think if you’re going to run a Japanese restaurant and decide to use the«normal greeting,» at least learn it and pronounce it close to what it should be. We heard a lot of «Uh-yuh» or just grunts. Lots of noises but not anything close to «Irasshaimasse» We ordered appetizers. and they were pretty good. I got miso soup & salad with my meal, which were both pretty good. I don’t know what dressing they used but it was delicious. just heavy(too much). Tempura sauce was more like soy sauce. the Udon we ordered had flavorless soup. Some things were close to being back in Japan, others were far off. Service was pretty good though! We felt well taken care of. We will probably go back for certain things. still good food, just not the same. Spoiled because we know what the real stuff tastes like. Close but not quite it.

First time here doesn’t look like anything special but the sushi is good. We had Bluefin sushi, yellowtail and yellowfin sushi. We had a couple rolls as well but the one that I suggest you try is the California beach it was awesome, I would come back just that. The wait staff was friendly and fast.

I went in for lunch today and I was blown away with how good the sushi is. I had the forest gump roll and the spicy tuna rainbow roll. The forest gump roll was hands down the best roll I have EVER had! The flavors were so perfectly married, the freshness of the fish and the amount of heat from the jalapeños was perfect. I am so happy this is so close to home! I will be back.

Very friendly and welcoming. The food is amazing and I am never disappointed. The Ora of the restaurant could be lively but is happy and I like that. My kids love to eat here because they are friendly and food is amazing. Eat here about 3 – 4 times a month. Are go to sushi place. Also there’s a 10% military active duty discount.

My husband and I finally had the chance to try this place out. Two weekends in a row mind you. This place is tucked away in the corner of a strip mall. There is plenty of parking, but parking spots closer to the restaurant can be packed since it is shared with another restaurant and other businesses. As you enter the restaurant you will be greeted almost immediately. Each time that we came in, people were flowing in afterwards. I would call to make reservations as the place fills up quickly. We ordered a few dishes each time we visited(see photos). I really enjoyed the Vegetable Yakisoba and the Forrest Gump Rolls. Oh, and the soft shell crab appetizer, was very yummy. I am not a sushi expert, but everything seemed fresh and tasty. I ordered plum wine(sweet wine) and plum wine ice cream, both my favorites if a Japanese restaurant offers them. There servers and chefs are very friendly, and they never forget to check on you. We look forward to enjoying more meals and sushi offered here.

Went there tonight 1÷29÷16 was seated by waitress and she promptly got our drinks, that was the highlight of the experience. My wife ordered one roll, I ordered one roll and we ordered teriyaki chicken for my son. 30 minutes later my son got his chicken, we waited another 40 minutes and still didn’t have our rolls. We noticed a couple a few tables away that sat down 20 minutes after we did had their food and had ordered 4 rolls. After an hour I stood up to tell the waitress we done waiting and wanted it to go she pointed her finger at me and said«you hold on» I replied with«I’m done holding on» I asked for a manager and got the owner. He started telling different sections get their food at different times… yeah not buying that. He walked away from me in mid sentence saying no discount. Thankfully another waitress helped me and gave us 15% off of our bill but really? I should have left without paying and left the food. What a horrible experience, it’ll be a long time till we go back if we ever do.

Stopped by on my lunch hour and was out in 30 minutes. Fish was very fresh and prepared quickly. But aside from that, the sushi rice was on point! The service was amazing. Greeted immediately as I entered the door and I was serviced by every waitress and sushi chef during my time there. A really great team and atmosphere. Will definitely be back! Thank you Yama!

All of the sushi is amazing, highest quality of sushi you can get, the flavors mesh so well together whatever you get. 9.5÷10 for flavor! The only con is the high price of sushi, it’s very expensive sushi, about $ 10 – 15 for a dish. A dish is enough to get you almost full. Highly recommend the salmon crunch, it has caviar on the top, cream cheese, crab, and more, ITS soooo delicious! 10⁄10
