Really cute café. I like cafes and lounges, but there aren’t actually too many in the area that I prefer. Upon seeing Smuji for the first time, I instantly thought it was one of the cuter cafes I’ve seen. Upon further examination, I realized there was a Super Nintendo lounge, bean bag chairs, a rack of magazines, animé playing on TV, chess sets, and a menu of frozen smoothies, coffee, tea, and smuji, as well as some entrée options. There’s even a second level with additional seats and a view of the first level. I ordered a durian smoothie. Although skeptical(as I’m not a huge durian fan), I relented after agreeing to have whipped cream and crushed peanuts added to my durian smoothie. The durian smoothie is durian blended with mung beans, coconut milk, and condensed milk. I also ordered a strawberry smoothie for le boyfriend. I was very surprised at how creamy my durian smoothie was. The taste of durian was not overwhelming at all and I think it’s the perfect introduction to durian if you can’t handle too much of it. It really tones down the usually overpowering aroma and taste of durian. The crushed peanuts and whipped cream definitely helped too. I had a sip of the strawberry smoothie and it tasted good. Next time I’m here, I’m going to try one of their smuji bowls. The green tea smuji bowl sounds so good. They have entrees like udon noodles and shrimp wonton soup here too. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Cash only!

Smuji is the cutest place in Eden Center, and probably the cutest café/smoothie/bubble tea place I’ve been in Virginia. The staff was so considerate and got up during their lunch break to serve me. I had their Thai tea with bubbles and my sister had a strawberry smoothie with some green jelly. Both were very refreshing and a sweet. My drink was really good but the smoothie was aight, a little too icy-like. But was still pretty good. The atmosphere is one of their best characteristics. There’s a lot of cool stuff to look at like random toys, japanese/animé something magazines, etc. My favorite was area with an old Super Nintendo set up. I really love quirky, small businesses like this that really make sure their customers are happy and have a good experience. I’ll definitely be coming back and hope they expand soon!(It’s an hour drive to Eden from where I live. eugh)

I’ve been back to Smúji several more times since my initial April visit, and each time, they do not disappoint! I’ve tried their various other drinks(Vietnamese coffee, green tea smoothie, etc.), & they were all delicious & refreshing! Now that they’ve added a loyalty card program, that’s just more incentive for me to keep visiting each time that I’m down in the VA area!

Smuji is one of a kind. Nowhere else in Eden, or the DC area for that matter, can you find a place that serves frozen drinks and Vietnamese-style iced coffee; AND offers ready-to-use chess sets, magazines(animé and lifestyle), video games, and a separate screen for movie-viewing. I’ve never been a coffee person, but I loved their version of a Vietnamese favorite, café sua da(iced coffee). They didn’t go too crazy with the condensed milk(of course, they probably used the Longevity Brand a.k.a. Sua Ong Tho), but mixed in the perfect amount to lend the French-inspired drink a creaminess and sweetness that tempers the dark roast very well. Mister got the café do(red bean coffee) and really liked his drink, too. I had a sip and thought it was pretty unique and flavorful. Just a note: They can make any of their smoothies warm, per request, but I wouldn’t recommend you get these drinks warm because they taste much better as frozen smoothies, and this is what they specialize in.(You’re probably thinking…“Why would I get a smoothie warm???” I guess weirdos like me do things like order warm smoothies.) Smuji is also an ideal hangout spot because it has an inviting feel thanks to various seating options, including tables and bean bags(yes, bean bags). You can also have the rare opportunity to see this older part of Eden Center from their second level. Not much of a view, but it’s refreshing to see this section of the sprawling mall from a different vantage point(mainstays like Hoang Tho 1 and 2 have been so ingrained in DC’s Vietnamse-American community)… There is definitely a need for a place like Smuji because most bubble tea/smoothie shops around here don’t have tables/chairs, unless you count the boba joints in the Rockville area. And what sets Smuji apart from other cafes is that they offer frozen coffee, variations of Vietnamese iced coffee and more. As far as I know, no other business offers such a range of Vietnamese-style frozen coffees.

I’m glad I finally came to try this place. The staff was very friendly and helpful by offering suggestions and their popular items. Some friends of mine had a smoothie with jelly and I had a peach tea with jellie. I’ll definitely come back to try other items! The atmosphere is cozy and there’s different things to do for entertainment. This seems like a comfy place to kick it for HS and college kidos.

Five stars for Smuji! This is the type of place I would imagine Sailor Moon and the rest of the Sailor Scouts would hang out in after a long day of school and saving the world. There is lots of comfy seating, animé playing on several different television screens as well, a Super Nintendo lounge, free wifi, and a rack of current magazines. It is teenager(and community manager) perfection. The staff is super friendly and eager to recommend their favorite items on the menu. My mom was in love with the durian smoothie which was topped with fresh whipped cream and crushed peanuts. I had a generous sip since I can only stomach a small amount of durian at a time and found it to be not too overwhelming and perfectly creamy and smooth. My red bean, mung bean and coconut milk smoothie was equally as wonderful and I was happy to hear that all of their ingredients are fresh and they do not use powder at all(so gross and artificial tasting!). Since I work from home and don’t drink coffee, I often feel a little out of place at coffee shops(and drinking wine from my neighborhood wine bar with wifi at 9:00 in the morning is a little suspect). I am so glad to now have a fun alternative that suits my needs. They also serve small sushi and noodle plates which looked pretty appetizing as well.

New favorite establishment at Eden Center! My friend Freddy Jr R and I decided to stop by after noticing they had a Super Nintendo set up as well as seeing a few of their«smuji» bowls on a menu advertised outside. Right when we walk in, we were stunned to see what games they had available to play! Street Fighter 2, Mario Kart, and Bomberman just to name a few? Amazing! We order the Green Tea smuji bowl to share since we just had some boba from Bambu. The Green Tea smuji bowl includes green tea ice-cream with longan, jackfruit, rambutan, jelly with coconut milk and peanuts. I could easily finish one myself had I not had boba previously. Afterwards we ended up playing Mario Kart for a bit until some kids started getting annoyed with us, eventually forcing us to quit playing. A great place to waste time and enjoy some great food and drinks while playing some old school video games. They also have board games and otaku/gaming magazines you can read while your there. There’s also a TV set up for movies to if you feel like watching some. Very cool place and a welcome addition to the Eden Center!

Quaint & cute, tucked away inside an indoor mini-mall within Seven Corners is Smuji(Japanese pronunciation of «smoothie») café & lounge. Everything on the menu looked great and seemed worth trying, however, I went with the basic favorite Red Coffee(which is a coffee frappuccino-type blend with just the right amount of red bean mixed in) topped with whipped cream and artistically drizzled chocolate sauce! Absolutely Dee-LISH! :) If this frozen blended coffee treat is any indication of their other myriad offerings, then I will be back more often during the summer for sure! Service was super friendly! The atmosphere was very Japan coffeehouse-cute with floormat gaming console areas & even an upstairs mini-loft for small groups(4 – 6 people max). Other menu items include fruit smoothies, various frozen coffee-based blends(e.g. mocha, hazelnut, caramel, etc.), smuji bowls(fruit, shaved ice, red bean w/toppings), yoguji(yogurt-based) bowls and other beverages. Great independent-owned alternative to Starbucks and more exotic than the frozen hot chocolate offered at Serendipity, this is one excellent & different must-try place!

I have not gone to Eden for a long time, so I wanted to check out all the new places. I heard about this place through some friends of mine and since it is a new business, I thought that I should check it out. It is tucked away in the heart of the Eden Centre Mall(right around the corner). I ordered the avocado smoothie and I do have to say that it is better than the one that Song Que makes. The price was reasonable for the size of the drink that I bought; they also have a student discount for those who have their ID’s to show(not sure if this is a limited time thing). I am definatly coming here again!

«Smuji» is Japanese for«smoothie», and you’ll find this and a little more at café/lounge located within the heart of the Eden Center Mall. Right around the corner from Nhu Lan, in a previous life, it used to be a bookstore and a restaurant. Its menu has a smattering of snack-y items such as smoothies, flan, frozen yogurt, blended coffee drinks, and noodle soups. It reminds me of the type of items you’d see at a Taiwanese café like St. Alp’s or Teariffic. They also feature Vietnamese drinks such as salty lemonade. Ambiance is no-frills, but does invoke a minimalistic coffee shop vibe. There are a couple of two-tops on the ground level, some flat screen TVs, and low tables with floor cushions with games for patrons to play with. Upstairs there is an alcove with a couple of tables and you have a view of the center and café below. Free wi-fi is also available. It’ll be hard for them to get business, as their location isn’t in a prominent area of Eden Center. If we weren’t going to Nhu Lan or the now-shuttered Viet Taste, we wouldn’t go into this part of Eden Center. We discovered Smuji through posters taped to a pole outside the Cho Eden Market. We ordered a mango and a strawberry smoothie for $ 3.99/each. They are a bit different from the other delis in the area in that they don’t offer tapioca bubbles. You can get whipped cream with your smoothie and they add crushed peanuts on top(optional). Our smoothies came with grass jelly at the bottom, which I originally thought was chocolate. I liked my smoothie, but my boyfriend thought his tasted weird, so this review is more along the lines of 3.5 stars.(I like weird textures and he doesn’t.) But I would like to stop by again. We’re beginning to see the next generation of Vietnamese start their own businesses so it would be good to support them.

The atmosphere of the café is very warm and inviting, I love the comfy couch and flat screen tvs that surround the café. The second level of the café offers a quieter environment for those who may want a place to catch up on some reading. It’s a great place for people of all ages, adults can enjoy a nice cup of coffee while children can enjoy a smoothie or a specialty«smuji», which is a heavenly combination of shaved ice, ice cream, jello pieces, fresh fruits, whipped cream, and much more! I highly recommend anyone to swing by and give this place a try– tried it once and loved it, definitely coming back for more!
