Food was good but service was horrible. Had a 6:30 reservation, arrived around 6:15, got an attitude from the staff that we were not all in the restaurant at the same time, even though the rest of the folks were walking in the door. Rushed through every phase of the meal. at 7:10 was given check without asking if I wanted desert. Paid and then at 7:20 was asked to leave the table since they had other people with reservations. I was barely through with my meal and not even finished with our drinks, but was asked to get out of the way. When I said I would be done in a minute got more attitude from the waitress. What an aggravating experience. I will not be back. Be warned, if you go to Sakura, you need to be a speed eater… Probably should give it less than 2 stars, but the cook was good and the food, despite all the staff issues, was good.

I have found the Hibachi to be quite good for the price, but a recent visit changed my opinion. The quality of the meat and seafood went down. The restaurant was also cold. Another couple at our Hibachi station actually complained to the staff about the quality of their meal. With Japanese/Fusion/Hibachi/Sushi places on practically every street corner I won’t be returning. Meh…

We had dinner here recently. The restaurant is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, and seating/space is good. We had a thai curry dish and some sushi rolls. I can’t quite place why, but I I felt that the Thai dish was great and the sushi was just.okay. I like that they brought out warm towels before the meal began to clean our hands, and service overall was fine. This place might be good for big groups since seating is plentiful. I just don’t think I’ll have sushi here again though, because I’ve had better sushi elsewhere in the area.

I’m updating my review as I came here a second time during a non busy time of day and was not only seated right away but was also served right away. Food was delicious. No Complaints. I guess the key is to come here during a non busy time for a better experience.

I like it. Friendly service and good food. My only complaint is I reserved a table for about 15 for my mothers birthday and we had to wait 20 minutes for room to clear up(reservation was 1 week in advance) and the way it was set up, 4 members of the family were essentially at another table at the back of the chef so they couldn’t see the show or communicate with the rest of the family verbally without yelling. Love the food thou

Bought a groupon for $ 20 for $ 50 worth of food. I used to always come to this place when it was under a different name and probably management as well. My friend and I were greeted warmly and sat right away at a hibachi table/grill thing. The hibachi stations are very dark it feels like they forgot to put the lights on. I ordered the hibachi shrimp, all hibachi comes with soup, salad, choice of meat, veggies, rice and noodles. Shrimp was $ 20. Miso soup was good and not cloudy like in other reviews. Came out piping hot and had a good amount of mushrooms in it. Off to a good start. Salads came, lettuce was very fresh and crisp, but I’m never a fan of the thick ginger dressing on top of those salads meh. Next was the show, it was alright did the typical flaming onion and spun some eggs. After cooking the veggies the chef went down the line shooting zucchini into people’s mouths and mine got chucked at my forehead. Pshh Overall fried rice not so great and the noodles were even lamer. Barely any flavor with no add ins besides soy sauce.(Except fried rice had the eggs) The shrimp and veggies were very good though(shrimp were pretty large and not over cooked) and you really get a lot to eat. I had another meal to take home with me. The waitresses were really nice but the food is mediocre here. Nothing to rave about. I can’t comment on the sushi because I didn’t try any here.

My husband ordered a bunch of sushi and thought the sushi was really good-«better than Kenta» I ordered chicken pad Thai(very bland), Thai basil chicken(tasty but not that much curry) — I also asked for it to be extra spicy and didn’t find it spicy at all. The Indian pancake was okay but the pancake part was clearly burnt. Ehhh… Might order sushi but not entrees again.

The hibachi is very good but my favorite thing they have is the godzilla roll… it is off the charts good. Its a clean place with clean bathrooms, the prices are normal hibachi prices. I think its much better than any of the other hibachi places in the area and WAY better than benihanas. Im only giving it 3 stars because the décor is not very inviting and a lot of the staff(family i believe) are very rude at times but even with that said i have been there multiple times and i will go back in the near future.

We absolutely love this place because the sushi is so fresh and good and they don’t douse every roll in sauce. It’s super fun and weird — like a crazy Japanese club, which is also reflected in some of the dishes(sushi sashimi for 2 comes over a huge clear bowl of shaved ice with a mini strobe light underneath). Too many tvs. Sushi chef is an awesome guy. Can’t comment on the hibachi as we wouldn’t ever go out to eat that… ever.

One star is for the star in the sky. Zero stars for this restaurant. Rude, penny pinching and poor customer service. Would have enjoyed a Big Mac that was two days old than go here again. Basic food and below standard service!

Awful! Hadn’t been there in a few years. Thought I would give it a try. Very disappointed. Service was slow and sushi was awful. My spicy tuna roll tasted like old fish

Decided to try this place since I’m always in Farmingdale village. Regrets. The restaurant itself isn’t aesthetically pleasing and they even had christmas decorations up which didn’t bother me but, why? The hibachi area is in the front of the restaurant and isn’t a separate room from the restaurant area which could probably get very noisy if it’s a busy Saturday night. I’m only rating this restaurant as a sushi restaurant as I have never had the hibachi here. We ordered the Christmas roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll, miso soup and a kani salad. The miso soup was very cloudy and way too salty. I wasn’t disappointed in my salmon roll, it had an equal amount of avocado and salmon. Let’s talk about the kani salad for a sec: It was light and the flavors were good BUT it had too much cucumber and not enough crab. They put sliced apples in it which is the first time I’ve experienced that and it accented the other ingrediants perfectly. I tried the Christmas roll which I thought was delicious, nice filling special roll. The special roll list comprised mostly of either spicy tuna or salmon and being I don’t dig spicy sushi that was a problem for me. The service wasn’t bad but for some reason I felt rushed even though they had only a few dining customers. My glass of water was always full. It wasn’t a terrible experience but there are so many better sushi places out there, I will never be back.

I’ve had both hot food from the kitchen and sushi at this place and it was all delicious. The sushi was fresh and the special rolls had interesting flavor combinations. The kitchen food was yummy and not too heavy or greasy. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Sushi is pretty typical of most Japanese restaurants. Their hibachi chicken lunch special is good and worth it, relative to other Japanese restaurants. Décor is nice and is suitable for family, social, and business gatherings. Music is upbeat and pop. Has as nice looking bar.

Great service! My tea cup was never empty and they were very attentive and nice! The chef even came by to make sure it was ok. The food was displayed very beautifully and tasted as good as it looked! We used a groupon to save and try something new. They have hibachi also and the groups looked liked they were having a lot of fun. We had certain requests which they didn’t charge extra for like wasabi and brown rice. There was a birthday party and they play a nice birthday song! I have to say I’ll be back and maybe even for my birthday!

I’ve gone here several times and every time I’ve been disappointed in the quality of the sushi. Only sometimes have I been disappointed in the service. When I order pickup they always seem friendly. However, they are constantly talking in Chinese to each other(sometimes very loudly). I cannot say for sure whether they are talking about people, but it just comes off that way– also unprofessional– and I always assume they are saying something rude that they wouldn’t want customers hearing. But who knows. Even if I’m completely off-base regarding that, the sushi has never been good. I have never gone for dinner, but I’ve gone several times for lunch and it’s consistently sub par. The salmon sushi was chewy, and the rice was over seasoned. The tamago was way too cold, tasted like it had been in the fridge too long. And if you order tobiko sushi, don’t expect to get what you order. They try to give you two different types of roe mixed together… C’mon now. I guess they just assume their customers won’t notice?

Sakura has its good and bad days. When we’ve gone after 8pm the sushi tastes fresher, during lunch it’s just ok.

Food was great. We had the sesame chicken, a few sushi rolls, and some appetizers and sides. This place doesn’t have the best atmosphere, obviously it’s better than your average neighborhood hole in the wall chinese food place, but if you want to come and have a delicious meal, definitely come here. We didn’t do hibachi this time but we have done it before and it was delicious. The best part is that it’s very reasonably priced here. I only knocked off a star because the service was definitely iffy, it was pretty quick but our waitress was just very cold. Definitely come here! I recommend the sesame chicken and the Godzilla roll. I added a pic of the sesame chicken which came in an awesome edible bowl.

So my brother and I come here on a weekly basis for lunch. The lunch specials are great! You can get 2 sushi rolls and a soup or salad for $ 8. Sushi rolls are good… I wouldn’t say over the top amazing but you get what you pay for. Hibachi lunch specials are also delicious and amazingly priced. $ 8 gets you chicken veggies rice noodles soup and salad! Can’t beat that price. The service is great. They often remember what we like and are very attentive. Hot green tea is also a good touch! Will continue to come here for lunch. So far this is the best Japanese restaurant we have found in farmingdale.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Sakura one night and we were so pleased with everything it had to offer. The drinks were made just right, the portions are large, and the seasonings they used were unique and flavorful. I suggest ordering shrimp and rice or the usual Bento box. If you have an allergy, let the server know. I have a gluten allergy and my waiter made sure my order was gluten free. In fact, the owner made me a special gluten-free soup just for me because he wanted me to try it out! FYI: It does get busy and the service can be slow, especially on weekends so keep that in mind.
