Here’s a surefire sign that wedding season and/or prom season is underway: Men’s Wearhouse is BUSY. In order to accommodate all of the customers and offer the one-on-one attention that a menswear store necessitates, the employees were running around like the proverbial chickens with their heads cut off. However, I actually welcomed the employees’ hurried pace because I didn’t want them to waste my time and wanted to get out as quickly as possible. The measurements were fast and accurate, and the sales associate that assisted me even correctly guessed my shoe size. Unbeknownst to me, that same sales associate saved $ 30 off my tuxedo rental by enrolling me into their rewards program. That’s well enough, but on the other hand, Men’s Wearhouse is markedly more expensive than, let’s say, a discount menswear store such as K & G. In fact, I could have BOUGHT a tuxedo from K & G for the cost of renting at Men’s Wearhouse. :sigh: If that’s the price I must pay for the distinction of being the best man at my closest childhood friend’s wedding, so be it. To be fair, said rental included accessories such as cuff links, a vest, socks, and shoes that would have to be bought separately if I decided to instead purchase a tuxedo. Did I mention that Men’s Wearhouse was busy? While I was waiting to checkout, and while a sales associate was answering a telephone call, I skimmed over one of several books on how to be a gentleman and happened upon the chapter regarding telephone etiquette. Ironically, some guy entered the store at that moment and proceeded with inane yapping on his phone for the ENTIRE time I was there. Money can buy an exquisite suit, but it certainly doesn’t buy class. Speaking of suits and tuxedos, I expected more inventory and more variety. By design, other men’s clothing stores such as Jos. A. Bank and K & G feature more products thanks to more store space, so that’s one more aspect to consider when shopping for business and/or formalwear. Finally, for those that stuff themselves with more wedding cake than they anticipated, tailoring services are also available for ever expanding waistlines.
