Seoul Bakery

I’ve been going to more and more Korean bakeries as I get older. Most of them are garbage, but ocassionally you find a gem like this one inside the H mart in federal way.
Having recently moved back from LA where I tried to get to Koreatown at least once a month I can honestly tell you korean food sucks in WA. Even in federal way where about the only decent place is cho dang tofu.
However, the H mart itself is quality, much better than just about any korean grocery store I’ve been to including in Koreatown. And the Seoul bakery inside is full of freshly baked breads, buns, pastries and unique items such as green tea tapioca donuts and fresh cream puffs that are filled with cream and not that light whipped shit. They also have cakes and plenty of other items I don’t remember.
Everything I ordered has been delicious and clearly made today. The staff are your typical korean women, working very hard to organize and make sure their selection of goods looks how it should. In general it’s a clean well put together little bakery area inside a pretty clean grocery store, unlike what you’d typically expect at an Asian grocery store.
I ordered the green tea tapioca donuts, just as good as other reviewers said, chewy, fresh, great quality.
Mochi — some of the best I’ve had, so soft and delicate yet heavy and formidable. One flavor, worth ordering.

I’d recommend, I need to go back for the crème puffs, I picked up a little container and they felt like a package of rocks, had to be full of the good stuff.

One of the best Korean bakeries they have fresh made baked goods everyday. The lady was so sweet and I got 6 pastries for about $ 11. Try the fruit cakes! Best cake you’ll ever taste. I like this bakery better than h mart in Tacoma and Paldo. Has a lot more variety and I can tell its fresh and baked that morning. Makes a difference!

When I think of my many years living in Korea a lot of things come to mind. As strange as it may seem to some of you, bakeries are something that I miss from my time there. There were three bakeries just like this within a few blocks from where I lived. Korean style bakeries are places to not only get sweet stuff, but they have a great selection of savory baked goods as well. The ones in Korea are much bigger than this and offer much more, but this place is great for the Seattle area and have a nice selection of Korean style baked goods.
As soon as you get to Seoul Bakery walk up to the area by the register and grab a paper-​lined tray to put your baked goods on. It makes it easier since not everything is already in a plastic bag. There are tongs located in the areas where there are items that are loose and not prepackaged. If for some reason you cannot locate any tongs, ask the people behind the counter. They are always polite and helpful.
If you’re like me you would probably want to take a little bit of everything home, but sadly that would not be in your best interest. Fortunately for you, if you want to try some of the items they usually have some samples cut up available to taste. There are toothpicks located close by the samples. Make sure you grab the NEW toothpicks and not the USED ones to get your sample with. When I was last there there were samples of several items I had not tried there yet and I will definitely try them at some point in the future.
They also have a good selection of cakes and if you like Asian style cakes they are amazing. They are not overly sweet and look beautiful. I bought two cakes here previously and everyone commented on how wonderful they tasted. They were a big hit and would definitely recommend giving them a try.
My favorite item is a wonderful, small and rugby ball shaped green tea and sweet rice treat. It tastes exactly like the ones I used to get in Korea. It is a bit heavier than some of their other items but the taste is perfectly balanced. They make a sweet rice one without green tea too if you don’t like the taste of tea. Just thinking about it now is totally making me wish I had one. They go great with hot tea on a cold day. It’s coated with sugar so make sure you eat it within a day or two or it won’t stay fresh for long.
I like anything made with green tea that I have had from them and I also really like the red bean pastries they have. They are not too sweet and the filling inside is blended to a perfect consistency that complements the outer pastry. True perfection. Their scones are great and go great with tea. The Swiss rolls with cream are all good but I prefer the green tea one the best. If I had to pick the best cookies that they sell, I like their chocolate cookies the best.
I love the fact that Seoul Bakery is located inside of the H-​Mart. I can go pick up the stuff I need and then relax and have a Korean baked snack as well. All of the H-​Marts have bakeries inside them. This one also is in a small food court where I like to sit down and listen to the Korean music and enjoy some delicious Korean baked goods and save some to take home as well.

Well hidden inside H-​Mart, I see Seoul Bakery as a hidden gem. They have everything from cake rolls and twist donuts to more exotic things like red bean doughnuts. I usually fill up a basket whenever I come here!
My favorite items have to be the red bean doughnut, sweet rice doughnut, cream cheese doughnut and this yummy black sesame doughnut thing. Gee I must like doughnuts!
The only bad thing I have to add is that these treats need to be eaten the day you bought them or they go downhill quick. Often they get hard or soggy with the oil, or chewy. They can also grow mold very quickly. I wouldn’t recommend keeping the treats longer then two days.

This place is located in hmart food court. For a little over $ 10, I got a tall white chocolate mocha, 1 hot dog bun, 1 marble cake, and 2 red bean buns. Everything was great, but the marble cake. It was very very dried. I’ve been to many Asian bakeries, this was on the higher end for prices. I just feel I can get more else where. I will be back to try other pastries. Hopefully I can upgrade the star level.

This bakery is usually great, except tonight. Purchased two cream horns because they looked amazing. Got home, bit into the first one — noticed a stale taste, but decided to keep at it. Took another couple bites, looked inside the cream horn and there was mold on the inside.
Needless to say this is highly unsatisfactory and I will not shop here again, or recommend this establishment to anyone.
It’s one thing to have day-​old pastries — it’s quite another to have pastries so old that they grow mold on the inside.
Unacceptable.

Dear Seoul Bakery,
Hi, its me again… as you’ve noticed from my previous reviews, I really like you! I, of course told the close people in my life that I really like you and they are ok with it. I was recently surprised with a variety of delectable treats as a gift from your establishment (see photo) to enjoy. Even the stuff I have no clue what it is, I still enjoyed it very much. Again, your red bean and custard buns are absolutely fantastic in my book!
I just wanted to let you know that I will be putting your tasty treats in my memoirs.

I love this bakery. The pastries French inspired, with a Korean twist. They have such a great selection of pastries to choose from. One thing that I love about their pastries, cakes & breads is everything is always fresh and nothing is ever too sweet either, like most «American» bakeries can be. My favorite selections: 1) Custard buns, red bean filled mochi & their mung bean «bites.» My kids love their bread and tapico buns.

I always like the texture of their tapioca bread, but the main gripe I have with it is that the oil it was fried in is very apparent. And the oil flavor leaves the head feeling fuzzy with a bit of a headache.
The red bean pastry is quite good! The bread is a little drier than I’d like and the red bean to bread ratio is 1:1. (I prefer more red bean than bread.) The red bean is a little dry as well.
The croquette was delicious! I loved the crunch and the potato in it. But, like the tapioca bread, the oil taste was pronounced. If this can be managed, it would be absolutely amazing!
It’s nice that they have little pieces of breads cut up to sample, but it’s questionable how sanitary they are (since some people who taste aren’t very careful about how they take). Also it was unsettling to see the glass cases open because I did see a fly flying around/​landing on the breads. I shudder… if only!

Absolutely wonderful. Their quality bread and cake is amazing. My sister bought a birthday cake for me 2 years ago and i absolutely loved it.

Variety! I have a serious weakness when it comes to Asian bakeries. Everything is so damned tasty. There’s so much variety here, that there is something that will suit everyone. We came to grocery shop at H Mart, and thought it’d be good to grab a quick bite rather than venture into the main store while hungry.
I got a croquette and my companion had a slice of marble cake and some sort of cookie. Everything was delicious! My croquette wasn’t super greasy like many of them are. There were other tasty things I will be sure to try next time. Prices are also average. Yummm…

My kids LOVE this bakery — it’s the itty bitty bakery inside of HMART. Daughter #1 — like the rolls stuffed with cream and fruit and little one likes the «sticks» — braided sugar crispy sticks — these 2 items cost $ 7 so they are definitely more of a treat than everyday items. Everything I’ve had or tasted ok — not bad nothing spectacular.
I haven’t tried the cakes or bread — but I feel that I should reading the reviews (especially the milk bread).

I really like this bakery. I have been trying to find milk bread since the bakery that I used to frequent when I lived in Virginia closed. They have that here… also bought the green tea coconut bread on a whim just because of the way it looked. YUM!

I love bread. There. I said it. Lately I’ve especially been going after Asian pastries (red bean buns, moon cakes, pineapple bread, etc), so I decided to visit Seoul Bakery.
As of 3÷5÷13 the prices were fairly low/​moderate, I paid $ 2.58 for mocha bread (2 per package) and $ 2.58 for cream bread (2 per package). I’m no expert in Asian/​Korean bakeries but I think this one is pretty good. It doesn’t seem like the stock really rotates — you’re always going to find hot dog thingys (yep that’s the official name of those), cream bread, peanut butter bread, mocha cream, milk bread and etc. It’s small, really just a little aisle you walk through with a basket to buy your stuff, but it’s so good you don’t really care. Personally I like to circle their little island several times like a piranha, greedily eying all the goodies.
One thing I really appreciate is they almost always having samples around — I’m really not that adventurous so I’m way more prone to buy tapioca doughnuts if I can try them first (chewy texture, interesting inner color).
The lady who always seems to be there is very friendly, and she’s quick to help you out if you need assistance.
Note — you need a $ 5 minimum to use a debit/​credit card. There’s no indication of this anywhere in the store itself, and I only found out when I went to just buy cream bread. Poor me, I had to buy white bean cakes as well (also delicious).

Not the best of bakeries since my adventures in L.A.
I have only been here once recently and don’t recall how much variety they had.
It’s a good place to go if you want Korean pastries.
I however, find Tacoma a bit closer than Federal Way so don’t many opportunities to swing by here to get some pastries.
As I love pastries… especially Korean ones.
If I remember correctly, I liked their sort (:

I have been coming to this bakery inside H-​mart for a very long time mainly for their Milk Bread. For $ 3.50 a loaf, you get the softest most delicious bread you can find in Seattle. I usually buy a loaf for me and and my mom since we live pretty far from Federal Way.
My other favorites include peanut cream bread, mocha cream bread, azuki donut, and french toast. Most of the donut items you can sample before you purchase. The bf also loves their cream cheese loaf. I’ve gotten cakes from here that are pretty amazing as well. The staff is always friendly and willing to help.

This bakery is one of my favorite bakeries on the south side. Located inside H-​Mart, Seoul Bakery offers large variety of baked goods ranging from bread, cakes, cookies, donuts, jelly rolls, palmiers, sponge cakes, and much more.
Some of my favorite pastries from here are their ham and cheese croissants. The petite crispy sandwich is just the right size for a light snack with a thin slice of ham and baked cheddar cheese.
As for their bread selection, I would recommend their chestnut bread: a sweet loaf with bits and pieces of yellow chestnut baked inside. The bread is sweet, but not too sweet and the chestnut pieces add a good source of vitamins.
Every once in while I would indulge and splurge on a good amount of baked goods. The prices do reflect the high quality of ingredients as well as the flavors offered by the bakery. If you are craving some French pastries, stop by and check this bakery. With their large selection, there’s something for everyone.

H-​Mart is pretty much Heaven on earth, however, I have not been too impressed with the vendors, Seoul Bakery is one of those.
I really want to give them a 2.5 star but I cant, so I will be nice and give it a 3, they do have good prices. We got our usual of rice donut twists, some cream filled buns, and red bean buns. We get these at all Korean bakeries. They were no where near the quality of what I would say the typical Korean bakery has.
Everything tasted almost day old. The red bean bun was soo greasy and lacked real depth of flavor. Their cream buns were pretty good but the bun part still did not taste as fresh as I am used to. They do have plenty of samples which is nice, I should have ordered their french toast bites which were really yummy.

My first visit to H-​Mart included a stop at this bakery. OMG! It has such delicious goodies. We will be back for more for sure.
They have these fabulous sweet buns filled with custard. they were soft and just perfect.

Seoul Bakery is literally the icing on the cake (no pun intended) when shopping at H-​Mart. One must reward themselves with all the hard grocery shopping with a few pastries. You’ll find a very wide good selection of green tea, red bean, bread, and other pastries.
My absolute money favorite = *** CHEESECAKE BREAD ***
I recommend trying all the samples they have available to satisfy your curiosity. They have pastries that cater to both the American sweet tooth (ie. really sweet) and the Asian sweet tooth (ie. mildly sweet.)
