H Mart

I had good and bad experiences here. But there were definitely more good than bad in my opinion. They have wide range of fresh produce. There is no grass fed beef or free ranged chickens but they have alot of wild caught seafood that is really good. They also have raw turmerics. However there were couple bad incidents. Once my dad bought cream puffs from the bakery and it was molded in the middle. However They compensated it for a new one the next time he came. He didn’t have a receipt nor the molded cream puffs. He just told them that and they gave him a new set of cream puffs.

How does this place get away with selling expired food products? I am frankly shocked that a higher authority hasn’t either investigated this, or penalized this store for pulling this on customers…
We see dairy goods and packaged foods that are well beyond their expiration dates up for sale all the time here. Additionally, I cannot tell you the countless times we have purchased meats, seafood, and vegetables from here, brought it home, and 45% of it (conveniently the parts not visible in its packaging) were straight rotten.
I’m personally done grocery shopping from here. I still stop in to pick up packaged snacks or ramen, but I am extra careful to ensure the dates are legit.
BEWARE. it could literally save your life…

Hmart is my go to place to buy Asian food and ingredients weekly. They sells things that other local supermarkets don’t have like soy sauce, ramen, and sweets.
One of the best place to get fresh produce and meat&fish. I really like passing by the bakery to buy a quick snack. The place is fairly clean, except for the restroom sometimes. If you buy something that’s a special, look carefully at the screen where it shows the price later when paying because sometimes the workers don’t mark it as special. Love it when they sell Asian drinks and cookies though.
Other than that, Hmart is quite a convenient marketplace to buy groceries on the go.

I would give it no stars if possible…
Looks great in terms of appearance but they sell products that have gone bad or expired. On several different occasions and in all departments. It’s outrageous that the health department has not shut them down. Tofu is constantly spoiled. Beef is rotten and decomposing. Bought a box of korean pears only to find out they were bad. They looked fine but had been previously frozen (possibly during transport?) and therefore were soggy inside and brown. When I brought it to their attention, they told me that if one out of the 9 were edible then they wouldn’t refund because that’s why they were on sale. Wtf? YOU TOOK $ 2 OFF THE BOX!!! This isnt fruit roulette! Regardless of price, you don’t sell rotten food at a grocery store. Pull out the bad ones. Mark up your prices. Do what you must but make it safe for consumption. You sell EDIBLE groceries at a grocery store. If I wanted compost I’d go to my local gardening store. SERIOUSLY HMART GET YOUR S*** TOGETHER. They not only sell spoilt items, they also have horrendous customer service. They make up excuses, do not acknowledge their wrong doings, and are so condescending. Just apologize and fix it!!! Arghhhh! So angry. I hate that place but it’s hard not to shop there because they have all my korean needs. I just wish they would not sell spoilt products. Definitely reporting to the health department. I urge others to do the same if you’ve purchased expired or spoilt groceries. And always check the expiration dates. Some a couple MONTHS expired. TRIPLE CHECK IF IT’S ON SALE. Their rationale is that you get it for cheaper because it’s past its prime. Sighhh. hope this helps. This is tonight’s debacle and the last straw… rotten beef. –_​_​_​–

Great for produce & asian meat
Was not happy that the prices were totally different from the H mart up north

After doing two West-​pacs this place is like going back in time. If you ever wondered what an Asian country is like just visit H-mart…I go there just for the Kimche…

Wow! This store has everything Asian related! …and I found it to be quite clean as compared to other Asian stores. There’s an abundance of varying fruits and veggies as well as meats. There is an awesome aisle of teas and coffees. The prices are reasonable. This may be my go-​to place for hard-​to-​find produce.

*** Spoiled Cooked Seafoods Beware ***
This is a good store as far as having a variety of products; fresh fruits, vegetables and so on. But, the issues I’ve been having is their meat and seafood department. I bought salmon with trimmings and it looks pretty decent. Once I got home I opened the package and saw other junks in it like fish gills dangling on small pieces of cheek meat. I guess it helps add up the weigh on that package. Likewise with pork meat, layers of fat is packed underneath a good piece of meat.
Other times I bought steamed crabs and lobster. The packaging looks good and all, but after getting home my wife and I open it up and noticed the crabs partially separated from the shell, a little smelly and the lobster is nice and big but after cracking it open the meat was mushy. A waste of money on cooked seafood items. I’ll try Safeway next time on good quality seafood. Attached are pictures of the seafood that I got from H-​Mart.

Oh boy does this place smell ! The store is fairly clean but still a bit dirty. They have a large selection of produce and fresh fish and meat. I wasn’t please with there KimChee selection. Not much to choose from. On Sunday’s they have vendors like Costco. But they lack the sanitary aspect of any other place !

Decent store, relatively clean, prices are nothing special and certainly not worth going out of your way for.

I love H Mart. I am a chef and I do an array of different menu items for my TV show. I always go to H Mart when I am going to cook up Korean or Asian themed foods. I also love their plate selections. They have good produce too with a wide selection of more exotic produce down to Nappa cabbage and carrots. They have good prices and if you like wine there is this plum wine. Now my husband who works my film crew swears by it and will drink a small bottle of it while I cook. I am never disappointed by this store. They are also nice to all people and I see a lot of different ethnic backgrounds going into this store from Hispanics, to Caucasians, Native Americans, and African Americans. All different people go into this ethnic market to shop so don’t be timid just go on in and shop though some of the labels are in foreign languages.

My boyfriend loves this place and I have come to like it. Variety most definitely is there. And has a variety of korean shops and eateries.
If you want the Uwajimaya experience but not the over priced items — this is the place to shop.

I was just at this hmart and bought red bean bun. At the store I didnt notice cause I was busy shopping w two kids but once I came home I noticed the package is open. It looks as if someone opened and tried to tape it close. And this is not the first time it happened at this hmart.

Living in Korea totally gave me a taste for Korean food and when I want certain foods, I like to cook them myself. I took many cooking classes in Korea so I want specific ingredients and NOT similar ones. H MART has a very big selection of Korean products as well as other Asian products and of course everyday staples.
H MART is the only place to find certain ingredients… For example if you are looking for Korean Fish Cake odeng this is the one store I have found that has the very thin flat kind to put on skewers or use in tteokbokki. I was surprised that Uwajimaya didn’t have it.
They also have a big selection of meats, seafood, veggies and Korean kitchen and household items.
I will not give them five stars because the pre-​packaged kimchi they sell is awful. My friend visiting from Korea said it was nasty and I agreed with him. I like the Banchan (pickled side dishes) they have but there are many they don’t seem to make at all.
There are a few small restaurants and a bakery on the store. Two of them, including the H mart restaurant are closed Wednesday afternoon. There is NO SPECIFIC TIME listing the start and end time that they are closed or for how long. I might have waited around for food, instead I went somewhere else.
Check out was fast and several lanes were open. The woman was professional and polite.
I can speak four languages including some Korean and I cannot figure out why it takes four different people to help me find a single item. I explained it in English, Korean and Spanish… But it took this one guy to help who knew where everything was.

I love this place!!! It’s inexpensive and there’s so many different varieties to choose from. I would love get my groceries here all the time only if it weren’t a little far from where I live, but this is definitely the place to go when I need items to make Asian food.

The gal who deals with the kimchi area is really kind and helpful, I asked one of the employees where the restroom was and the lady dropped what she was doing and directed me straight to it. My eldest asked where a certain item can be found and she was also quick to assist her, she dropped what she was doing and directed my daughter to it.
I also love how they have K-​ton inside the store (yummy ramen) they also have scrumptious sweets in the bakery
The only thing I hated about being at the store and would’ve given them a 5 star is was when we saw a lady using the same toothpick she put in her mouth over and over to get samples, and none of the employees stopped her from doing it. They lose a star for that. It’s DISGUSTING and UNSANITARY! Yuck! We also saw used toothpicks that were put back in the «clean» toothpick holder to get samples with. GROSS!

*Sorry for outdated review*. Anyways I’ve been here before to buy Korean groceries and this location is amazing. They have WAY better selections than Canadian H-​mart stores I’ve been to and find rare items here in Canada. (eg. Korean herbs and vegetables) There was a rare Korean vegetable (like, daeji gamja is a type of potato) that isn’t sold in my vicinity and this location had it. Also they have Korean herbs to make herbal medicines (like Dangui, Gamcho etc. Not sure what is it in English) and big selections of Korean liquors. They carry Sul-​Joong-​Mae and some Korean rice liquors as well.
Another awesome thing we met Korean TV celebrity (aka Big Mama) who hosts cooking program in Korea and it made our shopping experience memorable.

My mom goes here like every Thursday when they have fresh produce on the shelves. They are pretty big and spacious have a huge selection of food goods. From what I know, everyone goes here so the older looking groceries like Paldo or New World aren’t doing so well. On certain days they have people handing samplers of frozen gyoza or smth and my mom always eats the little sample and buys the whole thing. Be careful not to spend too much on things you don’t need. Our fridge is full of Asian groceries that was cheap and we don’t know how to finish eating everything. It’s probably the best Asian grocer in this region.

I think this H-​Mart is actually more reasonably priced than the Lynnwood one.
The seafood selection is pretty awesome! They had black cod, cod, tuna, salmon, shellfish combos, scallops, catfish etc galore! I just wish they had wild shrimp and salmon. There was only a small farmed selection of those but they had pretty much everything else.
The frozen foods, produce and housewares sections are also plentiful and the store was very clean.
My only gripe would be that the check-​out process was veryyyy… slowwwwww.
All in all, I’ll be back whenever I’m in the area. If I lived closer, I would definitely be a regular because I think it’s one of the better Asian grocery stores in the Seattle area.

Everything is always clean and organized. Lots of korean products because of course its a Korean supermarket. They do carry other asian food items, but I wished they had a little bit more of a selection.
Price wise, I always prefer to shop at HMART. I never feel like its overpriced or too cheap. I would say its not as expensive as Uwajamaya but not as cheap as a mom and pop grocery store (Waynes). A good inbetween!

We’ve been huge fans of H Mart, love the prices, selection, the bakery, and just the overall experience… Until most recently the uncooked packaged beef we brought home to cook came with plastic strings! It wasn’t just one strand, it was at least 10+. And that was what we can find. $ 9 went straight to the trash can.
By all means, please do quality control before you spend a dollar and before every bite!
