Everything I’ve tried has been delicious. I usually go here with family/friends to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc. I don’t eat Sushi, but my husband said the sushi is delicious as well. If you haven’t tried Tokyo’s yet, it’s a bit pricey, but totally worth it.

The service is consistent in terms of it always being similar despite the different chefs and staff each time I visit over the years. Abit overpriced if you opt for the combo meals with steak and shrimp or filet mignon and do a drink and appetizer or sushi. But I guess you’re paying for the show, right. Their sauce is really good though and they’re great about making you your rice to your specifications if you don’t like the basic fried rice with egg and such. It’s definitely a fun outing for a family or someone who’s never been to a teppanyaki style restaurant. Tip: don’t wear anything you don’t want to smell absolutely dreadful in if you’re heading somewhere afterward because you walk out of there smelling like greased cafeteria food as a result of food being cooked in front of you with oil, etc and the ventilation isn’t good and no open windows. Basically you’ll stink afterward lol good experience overall though !

Ok, first off– reservations don’t work here. You can call and make a «reservation» but they will refuse to seat your group until everyone is there. Even if you confirm that EVERY single person in the party is showing up, they will not seat you. No such thing as sitting down and ordering your drinks while you wait for the last few people to show up. I think that they want every single seat full before the chef comes and cooks for the group but I mean what is the point of reservations then? Anyway, don’t want to go on forever about that since you probably get the point, so on to other things. The food itself is great, and I love watching the food being prepared in front of me because the chefs are entertaining. The dipping sauces for the meat/veggies are yummy! And my last tip is to wear something you are ok with having to wash immediately, because your clothes will smell like fried food– it’s just the fact of the matter for these types of restaurants since they cook in front of you.

My first visit here. Our chef was Romeo. He was just wonderful! He was funny and just really good. Yeah I’ve seen he show, but I like it. I’ll be asking for him if I can. I’m in new town and he made some great recommendations for. other delicious Asian good in town. The food was better than any other hibachi/Tappan yaki joints I’ve been too. I had a crunch roll and it was also delicious. Ill be trying more of tge sushi next time. My partner loved that they offered her chilli paste. It was her favorite kind so that was awsome as well. The drive k menu was also just busting deliciousness! Overall amazing experience. Was it cheap? Nope. I’ve never been to a Japanese steakhouse that was. If you are wanting cheap, go over to the Mongolian BBQ place in the Commons. I feel like this place is definitely worth every penny I spent!

Tokyo Steakhouse is by far the best sushi restaurant this side of the Mississippi. The sushi is fresh but the service is first class. The owner Steve is very attentive and seems to have eyes in the back of his head, knowing when to help his staff whether it be the sushi bar, teppen yaki grill or the bar. He knows how to take care of the customer but then again so does his whole staff. Jin, the sushi chef, feels like someone you’ve known all your life not to mention he’s an amazing sushi chef. I could sit here and spend my day just hanging out with these guys. This place is clean, fun atmosphere and people travel miles to come to this restaurant! You can’t go wrong. Great food! Great people! Great experience!

Definitely the finest dining in federal way. When it comes to birthdays or any sort of celebration, this is the place to go! Not only is the food delicious(perfectly grilled steak, shrimp, chicken and fried rice), the ambience is one of a kind. The dark lighting and the lights make it a hip and fun environment. The chefs are always making jokes and the servers are very attentive. The food and environment are an unforgettable experience. I make sure to come here month or so! If your visiting the area or are celebrating any special occasion, make sure to celebrate it at Tokyo! You won’t regret it!

I’m updating my previous review from 3 stars to 2. I have been back since my first time at Tokyo’s and there was no improvements in the service. The chef I had this time did not put on a show at all, he just cooked the food. The food was very overcooked. I’ll continue to stick to Mizu & Benihana.

Never going back! Had dinner there last night with my kids and it was one of the worst dinners out I’ve ever had. Nothing was good. Sat there for 20 mins before anyone came by to take our drink order. Ordered 2 jack/cokes and they didn’t even have booze in them! Two of the steaks were overcooked and the chef acted like we were awful people for wanting them remade. He did remake them but that took almost a half hour. I asked 3 times for water and never got any. The chef(Money Mike) was as exciting as a dried up turd and he didn’t do any of the cool things the chef’s usually do. The worst part was how the manager acted when telling him all of this. He didn’t give a rats ass about our experience and all he did was take one steak dinner($ 30) off the bill. He should have comp’d the entire meal. After we complained he went outside and was laughing it up with his buddies while having a smoke. VERY unprofessional to say the least!!! We have been coming to this restaurant for years and never have we been treated this way. That chef and manager need to be fired immediately as I would be embarrassed as the owner! Thanks a lot, you just ruined my kids favorite restaurant and we WON’T be coming back. Bottom line, a good majority of Asian business owners only care about making $$$ and they are fine with losing a customer here or there and that is truly sad… Beware if you plan on eating here!!!

OK so normally I would give this restaurant a really high rating, but tonight I am not! It really had nothing to do with the food, that was actually pretty good. I have been coming here for over 10 years and have always enjoyed the experience. The problem I have experienced over the last few years, it seems to be since they did the whole remodel thing, they have gotten to big for their britches…(my experience was on the grill side not sushi side). Prices have gone up, service has gone down and the bathrooms are disgusting every time I go in now. So on two separate occasions either myself or someone I have known has purchased a Groupon for $ 30 to get $ 50 worth of dinner. I personally had one that was expired and just wanted the face value when I went in to eat, they would not give me the face value off my bill. In the long run I had to get a refund from Groupon directly because management would NOT budge an inch. So two days ago we went to use and found out it was only for dinner and because we were there a few hours early they would not honor it. OK yes we were dumb asses and didn’t notice the fact it was for dinner, it was after 2pm and we figured being so close it wouldn’t matter. NOPE… absolutely no exceptions. So OK we pay the whole regular bill and say OK we will come back Friday and have dinner Friday night before I had to leave town. So we go in the 2nd time…(Please note each time we have called previously to see if there was anything special we needed to do for the Groupon, «No just come on in» they say. We get there tell the hostess that we have a Groupon and she says show it to your server. Our server is notified of the Groupon and just says«OK». Which it seems to me THIS would be the point to look at your customers Groupon and make sure it is valid BEFORE someone starts a meal. That way a person could either A) walk out so they could use it a different/correct time or B) not use it and just pay the normal price, but it should be their decision. I felt almost as though they did this on purpose because the same exact thing happened to me several months before Dinner, yummy… Show, not as good as it used to be. Hardly any interaction with the chef, a few tricks but seems uninterested(we had the same guy both times in 2 days). Waitresses seemed annoyed when I asked for additional hot water for my tea and we never even got water. End of dinner, server comes we show her groupon and she says oh this doesn’t work it’s Friday not Thursday… WTF, seriously? OK so at this point the irritation has set in. So we ask just to have the face value taken off(it expires on Sunday), they wouldn’t even do that! The girl said she spoke to the manager but who knows. Then THESAMETHINGHAPPENEDTOANOTHERWOMANATOUREXACTTABLE! As we left I was a bit annoyed and stopped at the reception desk to tell the girl there that they really should at least as a courtesy tell a customer they should check to make sure they are there at the right time of the Groupon. Now don’t go yelling about how I should have read the fine print, etc. I own that, the problem, the biggest thing here was that no one cared one little bit! When we were talking to the hostess she wasn’t saying anything at all and then when she did it was cold and short and not even a courtesy«I’m sorry this situation has arose and we will do something to make sure it is a bit clearer in the future so no other customer has to have this issue.» As we are talking to her the manager walked up, listened for a minute and then literally walked the other way! Funny thing… before we went I warned my friend that I had to get a refund through Groupon because they wouldn’t honor the face value then either. To bad I wasn’t able to warn him first before he bought his. GOODFOOD/CHEF; UNCARINGSTAFFANDMANAGER. I will be trying a new place from now on.

I sat at the sushi bar for lunch by myself. The sushi chef was nice and the salmon rolls were beautifully presented and tasted so good. Overall an excellent experience.

Food was average. Bathrooms are gross, and need to be kept clean and stocked with soap and towels… Very disappointing, especially for the amount of money an average group spends here! This place can have a fun atmosphere, just don’t visit the restrooms! GROSS!

Love this place, everything about it is good. Although the servers seem to forget about you it doesn’t matter because the food and the chef make up for it… An all time favorite

Not good for large groups! We went as part of a party of 12 for my sister-in-laws birthday. She made reservations for the group & we arrived before the reservation time. We weren’t seated until 20+ minutes after the reservation time(Communication from the hosts was limited). When we were seated we were told there was a maximum of 9 people per chef and that we would have to be served by a different chef than the majority of the party. So three of us were seated with another group of 4. The strange part was they didn’t let us sit by the rest of the main group. The hostess made us leave 2 empty seats between us and members of the larger group. She had wanted 3 seats between us but I left a seat between myself and the party of 4. The two chefs started cooking at different times, so our food was completed before theirs. We felt cut off and at a different table(which we pretty much were). The chef was warm and friendly. I can’t say anything negative about him. The lady who refilled drinks & water was efficient(until the end when she disappeared). The bubble lights were fun to watch(especially for kids). The atmosphere was lively with the beat of a drum, people and conversation. The food isn’t really for me. It’s too salty for my tastes, but I knew that walking in. It’s not a good value(but perhaps if I loved the food is feel differently). If planning for a group keep in mind some of your guests may feel left out. If felt bad that the guest of honor kept apologizing to us and telling us it wasn’t her vision… it clearly wasn’t what she anticipated. Also, we didn’t have a Groupon(nor did anyone in our group) but the signs in the front lobby about Groupon guests was unwelcoming. It looks like a hassle to use Groupon at this business.

The food is pretty decent, I prefer the chefs at this location over the ones in Bellevue. Most of them have more experience. The waitresses however could work a bit more on their customer service. This locations décor isn’t as nice as the one in Bellevue, however that’s understandable because the one in Bellevue is a lot newer. Over all the food is decent for what you pay for.

I’ve been coming here for more than 15 years. I’ve seen the original restaurant to the renovated restaurant. I’ve also seen a shift in Management from Bonzai to his relative whose name I don’t recall. I was here tonite and I am absolutely appalled by the service. This isn’t the first time in the last few years but it’s certainly the last. Here is a summary of why you should choose a different Steakhouse in the area: 1) The Manager seats people; but that’s the extent of his customer service. He doesn’t handle complaints or greet regulars the way Bonzai did. 2) Their prices continue to go up. But with the higher prices you get smaller portions.. so you pay A LOT more to get what used to be normal portions. 3) Your NOT allowed to make a sushi order while waiting even when wait times exceed 15 minutes. * So if your wait is 45 minutes… Your SOL! The reason per the Manager, «we can’t have more than one sushi behind the sushi counter at once because they don’t get along.» 4) They SKIP you if you don’t walk to their counter fast enough … As in the pager is going off you get to the counter and they say oh sorry we seated someone else. So you wait… And after seeing them seat TEN more groups of people … Ps: We were at the bar ordering drinks and their counter is 10 feet away! If they would focus more on customer service and the big picture maybe Tokyos service could be as good as their food! Figuring out how to serve Sushi for ALL customers not just«Sushi» customers seems like a really basic business improvement. They would increase profits while building relationships and repeat business. Which may enable them to keep their prices to portions more balanced for their customers. I’m greatly disappointed. After waiting an hour tonite … And getting skipped we left. I’m extraordinarily disappointed in the quality of the experience and the shift that has taken place the last five years.

I really hate myself for not checking groupon before we are here. But it’s a pretty decent steak and shrimp meal. Don’t go if your super hungry because it takes a little bit more time to get your food given the show they put on. It’s pretty damn good food though and the chefs have been great the two times I went there. The only reason I don’t give 4 stars is because the hostess was always pretty rude.

We have been going to Tokyo for a number of years and have never had a bad meal. Our chef last night was hilarious«sum yung guy» he said his Japanese name was. Food was great, service was great and we left happy. That’s all you can ask for from a restaurant. If you’ve never been to Tokyo make sure to give it a chance, you’ll leave full and happy.

I’ve been to a few Japanese steakhouse a long time ago, and just remember them being overpriced and not enough food(maybe because I ate like a pig back then). This restaurant is still a little on the pricier side, but it’s more for the dining experience, and I actually felt full this time. The food was cooked well and was tasty. The cook was very entertaining, and service was good.

Great presentation, but wasn’t impressed by the actual food. Be warned that they slip in17% gratuity and then they tax the gratuity they charge you, and then they have a place to add more gratuity when you pay with a card. Would rather go to Mongolian Grill…
