I would give this a 3.5 for food and service. I found this food truck at the Northville’s Girls’ Night Out event. We ordered a spicy chicken chimichanga, Land’s End baja taco, and a Jacques chips with taco toppings. I wasn’t expecting super authentic Mexican food from this truck and I was impressed with the food that we ordered. The prices are a little steep compared to food in Mexican Town in Detroit, but this is a food truck so higher prices are to be expected. The chimichanga($ 5) was basically a large egg roll filled with meat and deep fried. It was tasty and came with sour cream and a huge scoop of really amazing guacamole. The Land’s End Baja Taco($ 3) was fried catfish stuffed with a cabbage slaw and onions. There was some other stuff on it — but I was too busy stuffing it in my mouth. Tasty but also pricey. The chips with taco toppings(2 $) — an interesting concept. It was deep fried chips with seasoning(probably taco seasoning) and topped with black beans, pinto beans, queso fresco, monterey jack, scallions, red onions, salsa verde, and corn. It was pretty good but hard to eat without a fork since the chips are flat and can’t hold rolling beans. Overall, really appreciated the food — the service was great, albeit a little bit slow, but it was crowded and the line was long.

This place is decent, it’s pretty hard to screw up a taco made with fresh ingredients, but for $ 3 per taco I expect a lot more. I would prefer to go to southwest for the price, or Imperial for the drinks, but if I’m passing by I would still stop and have a bite. I haven’t tried the tomales but they are on my list of things to try.

While I love making fun of the hipster talk trucks, these guys definitely do the roast pork tacos right! They are so good and flavorful. It is pricier than Mexicantown, but it is a helluva lot closer.

Today was my first Jacques taco truck experience. The ingredients tasted fresh, but my food was cold by the time I got home, which was literally three minutes away. I also forgot to add salsa or hot sauce while I was there so the food was a little under seasoned for my taste. I would recommend the food here if you do like your Mexican food on the plain side. I will probably give this truck one more try though. I want to try other options before I make a final judgement.

Tried Jacques’ Tacos at a Royal Oak food truck rally this week since El Guapo’s Grill’s Line was so long. I ordered the Land’s End Shrimp taco. The tortilla had green blue mold all over it. Needless to say, it ruined the rest of my meal. I notified them via their website and they apologized and said none of their other tortillas had this. Offered no refund. I wasted $ 3. I also tried the chimichangas and the beef short rib taco. Not impressed. I think they should have offered me something for the mold, but it was as if they didn’t believe me. I do have a picture though!

I was excited about Jacques’ Tacos– and was eager to gie them a try. I like tacos and their set-up in Ferndale is convenient for me… How did I really feel about Jacques though? I grabbed the first taco and was like, «Wow, this is good» — and was feeling very excited about this… But then I realized that all of the tacos and the couple of sides that they offer all taste the same. They are all dressed the same way and while I enjoyed it initially, it was overkill by the end. I do enjoy the smattering of hot sauces they have available for bringing it up a notch to your liking. ***So moving on to months later — and a couple of more Ferndale Jacques’ Tacos stop-in’s. The first couple were decent like the first… The last time we saw that Jacque was bringing his truck near our office in Southfield, so we decided to check it out there. I’ll ignore that the people frequenting the taco truck scared me, and focus on the food alone. They were quick and friendly-like, but the quality was less than I remember from my earlier visits. I’ll probably check them out again, but with less enthusiasm than I had on my first visit.

These guys are out at «Third Thursday in Ferndale» next to the Rust Belt. We have been meaning to get over here all summer, but didn’t get it together until this last week. I have heard locals raving about the tacos here… and had to try. My partner and I were both intrigued by the A2 — the marinaded avocado tacos, so we got two orders each, and then decided to also try the catfish tacos. OMG, both tacos were fabulous. The avocado was RIPE(most other times I get avocado in a dish out here in MI, it is either overripe or still hard), the spice was spot on, and the tortillas nice and corny. It was the catfish tacos that blew me out of the water. Bar none, the best fish taco I have ever had — keeping in mind the amazing fish tacos I have had in Ensenada, Rosarita and San Felipe, Mexico. I will stalk them where ever they park that truck. They update their page on Facebook with their schedule… The tacos were $ 3.00 each — so so reasonable.

I love tacos in all their varied forms, long as they are not deep-fried. In another lifetime I would have become a taco specialist, the Meixcan equivalent of a sous-chef, mixing up fusion and glory in the humble tortilla. Sadly that’s not meant to be as my only talent in this lifetime appears to be writing. Ferndale started featuring more food truck rallies, to my great enthusiasm, and Jacques’ Tacos no longer stands alone near the Planned Parenthood to whip up tacos to people on the go. Squeezed in along the Rust Belt Market alleyway or snug between the Emory and the WAB, I say bring on these delightful treats en masse. Let’s make Ferndale the Fabulous Food Truck city! On to Jacques’, now. I think of his work as more gourmet or stylistic tacos rather than whatever a Mexican grandma might make from a perfected recipe. Corn tortillas form the base for both, but he mixes up different fillings with spiced or shredded meats and a host of salsas. I’ve sampled three or four of his offerings now at the various rallies, either on my own or from bites of others. The shredded pork one is nothing short of succulent, a treat and far too rich for a girl to eat on her own without seeing visions of a personal trainer appearing in her head.(Sadly.) The blend of spices is just enough to keep it from being too sweet, and the corn tortillas give a fragrant, delectable counterbalance to all that meat. Bite slowly, inhale deeply, and be in no hurry to munch through. The pork is just amazingly done, slow cooked and soft, rich, and sweet. The tacos are put together in pretty short order, even at busy moments, and they taste great. Delicious, light balance and full of good stuff, they amount to a meal and a half for me most times. I work through half, save the other, and revisit the yummy experience later. But for the price, these tacos had better be good. I make them a once in a while treat at best.

This is not your typical Americanized crunchy taco filled with ground beef, cheese and lettuce. Jacque’s Tacos are more of a Mexican/gourmet style taco with the double layer of corn tortilla and topped with shredded meat and salsa. And no, they are not on a $ 1 menu but they are well worth the extra money for some quality food !! I’m not sure why the one reviewer said food trucks don’t have a «real customer base», I couldn’t find that statement any further from the truth considering people follow Jacques around the city on Facebook and Twitter. I have never passed their truck and not seen a line of people outside of it! I def recommend trying this truck out for yourself !!!

So my girlfriend has had this whole kick about trying out a food truck lately, most notably of the taco variety. We spotted this one on the way to Treat Dreams and almost passed it up on the way home. I sure am glad we didn’t. Whenever someone uttered the word«taco» to me in the past, I would normally think of the plain beef, cheese, and lettuce variety people are used to getting from a place like Taco Bell. My experiences lately though have changed my perspective. With a string of more artisan type tacos under my belt as of late, I’m almost giddy when I see a new opportunity for another good taste-filled tortilla. Tacos are no longer an ill-inspired concoction of bland to me. While it still depends on where you go, there really are other options out there for a nice pop of flavor! These pops will currently cost you $ 3. I ordered a Little Piggie(pork taco) while my girlfriend ordered chicken. The pork taco was absolutely amazing. It was actually the best taco I’ve ever had. Take your lime wedge and spritz some goodness over to bring out the freshness. Eat your radish. Now take a whopping bite out of your corn and bean filled wrap, making note of the spices that accentuate the lip-smacking goodness of the star: the pulled pork. You get quality and freshness for the price. With that said, the taco is in fact quite filling! I’ll have to throw a word in for the tamales too. It seems they made too many and offered up some to anyone who still had room in their stomach. Both the cheese and chicken tamales were good, but remember to wet them down a bit with some sort of sauce. The chicken tamale sure had some kick to it! The part that drove the tamales home, though, was the notable helping of beans and rice on the bottom. Have I had better tamales? Well … yeah, but these are certainly worth the try, especially with the sides. I’m impressed overall. The pork taco is something to try out in my opinion. To get yourself over the price, just think of all the stupid things you’ve wasted money on. Now take all that money and imagine if only you’ve spent just a little bit of it on a good taco every now and then. I’d happily trade in my ridiculous 1-foot long pocket knife I bought at a flea market for 4 tacos! Instead of buying this printer that I never use, I could have bought 80 more tacos! That’s a couple weeks worth of taco bliss right there! This truck is sure to get you moving if you just have a craving for quality.

I’m so glad the warm weather has brought Jacque’s back to Ferndale. I dropped by yesterday and picked up a braised beef taco and a shredded pork taco… fantastic grub. And while I can admit that the fare here is pricey, the food is quality and it’s quick. I say charge whatever the market will bear. I may not be willing to pay $ 3 for a taco on a daily basis but it’s nice to treat myself once in awhile. On top of that it’s nice to count on them being at Ferndale Radiator every weekend. I think it’s become pretty ingrained in Ferndaleites that that is where Jacque’s resides and I don’t see them leaving any time soon. It’ll be curious what Imperial Taco brings to the table once it opens and I’m guessing Chef Wes will need to adjust his prices to compete but until then… Welcome back JT! Oh and btw, I tried several of the hot sauces/taco sauces they leave out to top their tacos-they were all really good… the Cilantro and the Habanero sauces were the jam.

Jacques’ Tacos are somewhat tasty, *very* pricey, and overall disappointing. Chef Wes seems to believe that because he’s a Michelin-starred chef, he can serve whatever he wants at whatever price point he chooses. To me, that’s a big problem, right there. I’d rather give my money to actual local establishments which have to adhere to actually building a real customer base(and the consequences of such) rather than the Jacques’ Tacos idea of «Well, I’ve exhausted my welcome here with my overpriced, surly-served fare… guess I can move on to somewhere else!» He’s not one-starred because yes: the tacos can taste pretty good. The ridiculously high price for them, however, doesn’t wash. There are far better taco trucks and other types of food trucks out there, even in the Detroit area. Bottom line: don’t waste your time or money here.

Was driving down Woodward when my wife and I saw a lunch truck saying, «Jacques’ Tacos.» Being that lunch trucks in the metro-Detroit area are rare, we swung around and stopped for lunch. Jacques’ Tacos has a simplistic menu of tacos(beef, chicken, pork, or avocado) with sides of rice and beans, and chips with salsa. The tacos seem to be topped with an avocado and corn salsa, which is very tasty. The lunch bar attached to the truck had a large assortment of salsas, although none of them are made by Jacques Tacos. Tacos are $ 2.50/ea but come with part of a radish and two tasty chips. Also this is a lunch truck, so they travel around. 22000 Woodward Ferndale, MI on Saturdays.
