When this place open we were hooked. They always seem to remember their regulars and the pizza is awesome. Yes a bit on the high side of the coin for those use to eating Country Cottage and Hungry Howie’s, but well well worth it. I tend to not mind paying more for food if the quality is above the cost. The organic use of materials is worth it and the around the corner walking distance helps to. The Cookies and baked goods are even better, for those not in the know, if you show up near closing time all left over baked goods are half off(cookies, brownies, and loaves of bread, even the pies). Always a favorite and I’m glad to see this place become a staple in downtown Ferndale.

Today was my mom’s birthday and she loves the pain au chocolate from Strawberry Moon. Since I don’t get off work until 5:30 I called to see if they could possibly set a couple aside for me to pick up on my way home from work. They informed me that they didn’t bake any today but that he could bake a couple for me and have them ready when I got off work. This completely made my day and my mom was so happy. As her text message to me said«yummy, yummy, yummy.» Thank you so much Strawberry Moon as if I wasn’t already your biggest fan, now you’ve got me for life. I left a little card for you as a thanks, just a little something to let you know how much I appreciate you.

I would never have found this place if it wasn’t for the Groupon… and wow, am I glad fate had its way. The staff was really nice, the menu of sandwiches, salads, and pizzas looked delicious(the gourmet pizzas looked especially amazing!) – and I really wanted to try about four of their artisanal breads! I ended up getting the Ferndalian and Double Cheesebuger gourmet pizzas… and man, the 15 minute ride home was ROUGH because the smells were heavenly. When I finally got to dig in, I was very pleasantly surprised. Delicious yet subtle flavors on both pizzas, with a crust that was pleasantly thick and chewy. Overall I think it’s a little expensive(the small was $ 9 something and the medium was $ 12 something) but for a splurge now and again for a REALLY good pizza, I can live with that. I mean, I already want to go back and I was just there yesterday!

I visited Strawberry Moon in Ferndale for a pizza and have to say that they have really fresh ingredients. I usually eat Pizza Hut and decided to try the local bakery because of gift certificate. Everything on the pizza taste as if it was cut fresh that day(different from my carry-out experiences). However there is not a lot of pizza sauce on it. I enjoyed my full moon pizza, but it didn’t scream«buy me again» as I am biased toward stuffed crust pizza. My family really enjoyed it when ate it for dinner. No complaints from them. Expect to pay a little bit more for pizza there compared to Pizza Hut, Little Caesars, or Jet’s probably because they have real(not processed cheese, etc.) ingredients. If you are in the area and like pizza homemade pizza, I would say give it a try. But skip the cheese bread because you will be disappointed. They are more like bread sticks with a little cheese sprinkled on top. Not the cheese loaded sticks I imagined.

Before Strawberry Moon Ferndale was in dire need of a bakery. I remember watching and waiting for it to open on the corner. And ever since the little spot has offered fresh, organic baked breads, delicious sandwiches, salads and baked goods. I developed a fairly serious addiction to these sweet flaky and delicate blueberry turnovers –so much so I had to take a short break from my visits to Strawberry Moon to get my sweet tooth under control. I could seriously make a case for eating only those for breakfast. I also can’t leave without buying at least a few signature Strawberry Moon cookies. Made with fresh strawberry purée in the batter and the icing, these sweet little gems are a delight and a must-bring to any party. I can’t even talk about the chocolate chip cookies. They are perfection. If you are my friend are you are home sick, you’ve probably received a few of these. Don’t get me wrong. This isn’t just a sweets factory. The gourmet pizza is some of the best around. Create your own, or choose among one of many interesting flavors. Consider the Dirty Martini — with olive oil, mozzarella, artichokes, smoked pork and red onions –or the Julius C –with creamy Caesar sauce, mozzarella, romano, grilled chicken and fresh tomato. Stop in, you won’t be disappointed. After all, the Strawberry Moon is the moon of the harvest season.

Olive Romano bread is delicious. Magherita Pizza(Olive oil, Mozzarella, Tomato, Fresh Basil). Fantastic! The goods that float my boat from this place are the sandwiches. So far my man Brad and I have tried the BLT, BBQ Pulled Pork, Bacon and Blue, and the Funky Monkey. They Toast the bread and in the process make a gooey cheesy delight(YAY!)… and everything so far has been fresh and tasty. Brad’s two favorites are the Bacon & Blue(Bacon, Blue Cheese, and fresh Mozzarella), and the Funky Monkey(Peanut Butter, Banana, and honey) My two favorites were the BBQ Pulled Pork(Pulled Pork, Red Onions, and Cheddar Cheese), and the Bacon & Blue… and they deliver! Score!

OK I want to give this place a fair rating only because it was not what I expected a «bakery» to be. I saw bakery and thought of a variety of treats; nevertheless I was way off. First off this place is adorable and trendy. There are outdoor tables and a doggy water bowl outside. Very clean :) My problem was I was expecting sweets :) Instead all I got was lots of yummy looking breads and a cooler full of cold drinks… Yes there was Brownies and some pastry displayed. They also did have coffee but it was not fresh. Maybe I will go back and try there pizza next time… but if your looking for yummy sweets and good coffee, this is not the place to go.

During the on again off again downpour at Motor City Pride 2010 I found myself inside Strawberry Moon having a slice of pizza. Actually, it was two because the first was good enough that I wanted a second – I liked that they had feta and spinach on pizza slices at the ready. I was actually impressed that the pizza had a decent flavor – it looked like it should have been dry by at a glance but it wasn’t so much. I don’t know if I would go out of my way to order a pizza from Strawberry Moon, especially because they close earlier than your normal pizzerias, then again, they’re a bakery, not Pizza Hut. But stopping in for a slice was a pleasant experience. Maybe if I found myself planning ahead I would get a pie from them. And maybe I will find myself toting a loaf of bread from Strawberry Moon because I would wager that it’s delicious. The baked goods that were displayed were tempting. I could easily see myself stopping by for a cookie or some other treat if I happened to be walking by. I will say that they did have the signature cookies on the counter – maybe they heard Dea’s rant and know better to anger her in the future, because they will suffer the consequences.. .(cue dramatic lights and music). Strawberry Moon is a pleasant addition to downtown Ferndale, and it’s great that they are gung-ho organic stuff. It’s not always a high concern for me, but I know there are many out there that make it a priority. They also had local art hanging on the walls which was a cute notion.

Strawberry moon is my go to place for take-out in Ferndale. It’s super quick and easy and very tasty. My favorite thing on the menu is the Ferndalian pizza, which is sausage, pineapple, ricotta cheese, and red onions. It’s delicious. I especially like the crust– which a little bit thick and doughy. The sandwiches are also good. So are the strawberry moon cookies, which are not always there. I think they go quick. And the people in charge are super nice and always thank me for coming in, which I do on a weekly basis. I recommend this if you want something quick.

I have only popped into Strawberry Moon a handful of times– But I am a fan. They have baked goods– bread, cookies, muffins– and delicious pizzas. There is ample cozy space to enjoy your food inside– or take it with you! I have enoyed the bread I have brought home from Strawberry Moon– and the best part is that they frequently run advertisements with coupons in the local Woodward Talk. They have some clever, unique pizzas that are suprisingly good– Combinations I would not be able to get at Hungry Howie’s! I want to try a breakfast pizza next!

I’ve only ever eaten the focacia and the cookies. The focacia was nothing special — and the cookies were disgusting. Dry, nasty and tasteless. I’ve heard that the pizza is okay, but I’m in no great hurry to try it because the cookies are so nasty. Is it that hard to make a decent cookie?

Funny, I’ve lived in Ferndale for years, and just started to frequent Strawberry Moon this summer. I’m not sure what took me so long, but I’m glad that I’ve finally gotten my act together! A few friends recommended their pizza, so that was the first on my list of things to try there. I love that they make their own dough, and the list of toppings goes on and on and on… you can make any sort of gourmet pizza(vegetarian and meat lovers alike) you can imagine with the toppings they have on hand there. A small pizza usually lasts me for dinner one night and lunch the next day, a pretty good deal in my mind. After a few pizzas, I moved on sandwiches. I can’t lie; I’ve found my favorite & am sticking with it. The avocado on jalapeño cheddar bread — can’t go wrong! It comes oven-baked, with a very generous portion of fresh avocado slices, swiss cheese, tomato, onion(if you’d like), and my favorite part — cashews! It’s awesome. A bonus with Strawberry Moon — they deliver locally for FREE! As someone who lives & works in the area, this has really come in handy. It’s hard to find non-pizza joints around here that will deliver lunches to work on those days when it’s hard to make time to go out. Their delivery is quick, accurate, and the sandwiches have always been piping hot upon arrival. Love it. They don’t seem to have a website right now, but I called them one day to get a menu to pass around at work, and they emailed me one within two minutes! So if anyone is interested in checking out what they have to offer, that is an easy way to go about it.

When I’ve had better brownies and pizzas come out of my oven… and this place is a professional establishment… then either I am an awesome baker, or this place is a solid 2 stars. This place is called Strawberry Moon because it’s named after the cookie… a moon with strawberry frosting. Did they have them? No. WHATISTHEPOINT?! The up side to have an open kitchen is everyone gets to see what you are doing, and it feels like its apart of the eating section. The down side is… everyone gets to see what you are doing. I saw one of the workers cough into the food, then stop, cough, go get a drink of water, and put the hands right back in without washing hands. I was a little shocked. Aaron K was mortified. The pizza was meh. The crust was meh. The brownie was meh. The artichokes were amazing. But the cheese was like craft cheese. It’s honestly a pizza that anyone could make at home using Alton Brown’s recipe. So what’s their niche? Their niche is pizzas and using all organic ingredients. Conclusion: not worth going out of your way for.

I walked over this afternoon for a pizza. I was enjoying myself very much with my companion, and found the ambiance very pleasing, much more so than at Pinwheel. The wooden décor, the open design is something I dig. Then we had a brownie. It wasn’t bakery quality, though all ingredients are organic, if you like that. And the pizza was a three star pizza(green olives + artichokes). The dough was ok(better than Taste Pizzabar’s), but still not anything up to the standards of what a bakery should offer. And the service was friendly. But, this place barely earned 2 stars. Because, as was announced to me after we left, the workers were coughing into their hands while preparing food. They were handling cash and then directly handling food. In the day of swine flus and germaphobia, that is pretty cavalier. I won’t be returning, and I don’t recommend you visit unless they get their act together.

OK, all I’ve had is the bread. No pizza, no baked goods, just bread– the multigrain to be exact. I love to toast it and smother it in cherry jam with tones of butter– now that’s a meal! I have heard great things about the pizza as well. Maybe someday.
