I recently bought a Groupon that offered a haircut, all-over color, and style for $ 40. When I called to set up my appointment, the person at the salon told me that the stylist whom the Groupon could be used with(Kyler) would have to make the appointment herself, so he took my name and phone number and assured she would call me later that day. The following day she still hadn’t called, so I called the salon AGAIN to try to set up my appointment and they told me the same thing and took my information again. The stylist finally called me and got me in for an appointment the next day. I had an event to go to that night, so I was looking forward to getting my hair colored and blown out. When I arrived at the salon, there was no receptionist to greet me. The stylists in the back noticed that I walked in but it took a few minutes for anyone to come up to the front of the salon and get me. Kyler took me to her stylist chair(which looked like it was set up in a closet or something) and we talked about what I wanted to do with my hair. I have naturally dark brown hair that I had been highlighting, so I told her that I wanted to keep it a natural dark brown color with gold-undertones, NOREDTONES. I was very clear about this because red is very difficult to get out of your hair once it has set in. She applied the color in a haphazard way and had me sit under the heater for about 25 minutes. When the timer went off I thought she would come get me to wash it out, but no, she had me sit there for 50 minutes total before she came to get me. She also did not check the color to see how it was developing, which stylists typically do. She shampooed me and then applied conditioner and told me she would be right back. About 30 minutes later(and my neck craning on the shampoo bowl the entire time), she returned and had me come back to her chair to do my cut. She asked me if I just wanted my hair all one length, and I said«No, I have layers so please just trim up my layers». I was surprised that as a stylist, she couldn’t already detect that I had layers in my hair OR that people with wavy/curly hair tend to get layers because a one-length cut makes you look like a triangle. I felt like she didn’t really pay attention or know what she was doing. Instead of getting a beautiful blow-out, she dried my hair with her hands and then flat-ironed it once it was all dry. I could have done that myself at home! When I saw the finished product, my hair was an orangey-coppery-light brown which looked unnatural on me. I almost cried, I was SOOOO upset. I gave her my Groupon and left as fast as I could. After spending 3 hours in the salon and being ignored for most of it, I was sick of it and just needed to get my hair fixed as soon as possible. I called Jenny’s Salon in Madison Heights and they said I could come in within the next 30 minutes. The stylist, Nina, who corrected my hair did a fantastic job and helped take out the coppery-red tones that I did not want. Nina was also able to remove the hair dye that Kyler left all over my face and neck. The end result? My hair is back to a darker shade that looks more natural on me, but unfortunately it still has a red tint at the top of my head. Like I said, it’s hard to get red out of your hair once it has set it so I don’t know how long it will be before it fades(or when I can go spend more $$$ to fix it) but I will definitely return to Nina at Jenny’s Salon. I was so unbelievably disappointed with my experience at Zenru and will never go back. If you bought a Groupon recently, I hope that your experience is much better than mine. I haven’t decided if I will call and complain to the salon manager yet; I felt like the salon was very disorganized and I don’t know that they would really care. For someone to leave their client at the shampoo bowl for 30 minutes in an uncomfortable position and the other stylists to walk around not noticing??? That says something about the salon.
