I’m getting concerned about my family member. The care she’s receiving is getting worst. Some of the CNAs are great, however, the morning staff are very rough when dressing and showering the Residents and now my family member has an injury. They served her dinner two nights in a row without a beverage. The food is terrible. They gave her white bread on her sandwich when her preference card states«wheat only». The night staff refused to call me when she was sick even though she begged them to call me. They leave her in the hallway and say they’ll come back to take her to bathroom and don’t come back until it’s too late. This was what I learned from tonights visit. Yes, they are painting and fixing up the place, but how about training the staff to take better care of the Residents. I’ve already spoken with the Administrator and I just don’t know what else to do except maybe look for another Home.

We have had elderly relatives staying in convalescent homes all over southern California — we could write a guidebook. This is without question the best. Most of these centers have an underlying sewage odor, but Fillmore has never smelled bad. The cleaning staff must work like mad to keep it smelling fresh. The staff really genuinely care about the residents. We have a grandparent with advanced dementia — he’s argumentative, believes he owns the building, and is very hard to redirect when he’s in a mood. They are patient and gentle with him. They call us about any concerns — if they have to give him an extra Tylenol, if he gets a slight bruise, we get a call. We are invited to meet with them quarterly and the head dietician, the head nurse and two other senior level people meet with us to discuss his situation. Not only are they darn nice, they have a sense of humor, too. The building isn’t the most up-to-date or glamorous, but they take Medicare and they treat the patients with respect and caring.
