I’m certain there are places I could score cash for a quart of type A positive(and it’s some DAMN fine blood if I say so myself) but my donating isn’t something I look to get compensated for. I’m fortunate enough to be in good health and not fall into any of the disqualification categories. And I don’t have a squeamishness with needles, blood, etc. so no problems there either. It had been many years since I gave blood and this most recent trip was organized by a co-worker. So a group of us trekked over here and did the deed. We each scored a Symphony on the Prairie ticket to boot. Goldfish and orange juice afterwards. No one passed out. Laughs amongst the team. Good time all around. The staff working there was a lot of fun as well. Very personable, just going about their daily ritual with a smile and professionalism. I liked the fact they followed very exacting procedures related to cleanliness, questionnaires, and sample traceability. It’s gratifying to be able to assist and I plan to put this on the calendar to remind myself in 8 weeks. If you can donate, do it! You are helping someone, somewhere.
