If you desire hot food, served in a reasonable amount of time when there are only two customers ahead of you, pass this place by. Meals for our party of two were served warm, not hot. Rice was crunchy. One gentleman working the whole place, using his bare hands for taking chips out of a bag, after ringing our order and not washing his hands. And there was other food remains on his hands!!! Small flies crawling on the counter, and generally it did not appear clean around the counter.

Really great food! A little bummed they were completely out of crawfish anything when we went. But the staff was very accommodating and amazing. Their iced tea machine was also broken and I can’t/don’t drink soda so I had to get water. But they gave me a giant cup instead of a little Dixie cup like you get everywhere else. I got the Bourbon Chicken and it was DEEEELICIOUS! Not spicy at all, which is what I wanted, but packed full of flavor. I definitely had to take home leftovers, but it made a great 4th meal later on!

Really good! Went in with a friend to use Groupon good for $ 20 of takeout. Owner was working counter and said it would be OK for me to use it and eat in store. Jambalaya was very good(rice was mixed in). It was a bit thicker than Yats’. We will both go back. Nice service and good value.

This place was delicious! My husband and I went to explore a new restaurant and we were nothing but elated at how delicious it was! I had the drunken chicken and it was slightly spicy with a great flavor and I also had the crawfish étouffée, which had good sized chunks of meat in it! The owner was working behind the counter and was very genuine and welcoming. We enjoyed our time there and he made us feel comfortable. We will be going back for sure!

This place had some decent crawfish étouffée with some chunky pieces. This made it really good stuff. It could use a bit more; but that’s just me who loves crawfish. The garlic bread was soft and delicious. I’m glad they had some crystal hot sauce as the food needed a bit of a New Orleans kick. They have a nice selection of Zapps chips and this time place had the Spicy Crawtater chips. These are my new fave. They also have the voodoo chips. I’d definitely come again. This place has better food than Yats.

Once again I had lunch at J. Gumbo’s. I had the big bowl of Gumbo with a bunch of Mud Bugs(Crawdad’s) thrown in for good measure. Served with Texas style toast this will open up your sinuses. The food was excellent and the owner each came out of the kitchen to talk with us a bit. Excellent food and excellent service from an excellent restaurant.

If you like Cajun food, then get off your butt and get to J. Gumbo’s right now! I’ve been going since they were Gumbo-A-Go-Go on 86th street and they are even better now. The Voodoo Chicken never disappoints and they’re a really great group of people. You will not be glad you went!

Very disappointed with J Gumbo’s in Fishers. I’ve had MUCHBETTER gumbo elsewhere!

If you are looking for authentic New Orleans cuisine don’t waste your time going to J. Gumbo. I ordered the gumbo & the jambalaya. I took 1 look at the gumbo & new it wasn’t made w/a traditional roux & stock. It was too thick & tasted like grocery store gravy. The sausage & chicken didn’t add any special flavor to it & I’m not sure if it even had okra in it. The jambalaya however looked good & the 1st couple bites tasted pretty good. But it wasn’t hot & tasted reheated. After a few more bites I was done. Everything lacked flavor. Very bland food outside of the spiciness. The sweet tea isn’t sweet & the menu is very limited. The French bread was the best thing they had. I left hungry & was forced to fill up on Handels ice cream after I left.

Great Cajun and Gumbo in Fishers! When I lived here years ago, my father and I would go to place they had in Greenbriar. So I was delighted to find this one in Fisher and be greeted by the owner when I walked in. Still terrific Voo-Doo chicken and my wife had a great ratatouille yesterday. Great service and great food for a reasonable price!

J Gumbo’s…yummy! Plus, clean bathrooms, which is fabulous for the weary traveler(me). I got the red beans and rice, which was very good — creamy and flavourful. The toasted French bread it comes with is also very good. The only downside to this location — they don’t have cornbread!!! The cornbread at the J Gumbo’s in Cincinnati is fabulous and the BEST for crumbling up in the rice and beans. So that was a disappointment, but the French bread was more than adequate. I will definitely return here if I’m in the area.

So I stopped in for a peak. They were not crowded, I walked in and got some suggestions from the counter dude. I see they have a deal for $ 2 more then the entre you can pick two entres. So I took the crawfish ettifey and the red beans and rice bowl. I am a big guy and it filled me up with a good yummy meal with a drink for under $ 12. The do have several hot sauces to add more heat but the standard was real good. I believe it’s the best your gonna find around Indy. Stop in if ya are in fishers. The traffic is a issue. I would recommend after 7 pm for less traffic issues.

A great alternative to some of the other creole places in town, I think that J. Gumbo’s is probably comes closest to the stereotypical New Orleans food in terms of flavor and spice. Unlike some places, J. Gumbo’s food actually has a nice kick to it. A flavorful blend of spices and seasoning, the étouffée is a great blend of rice, crawfish, in a creamy sauce. The inside is decorated in a Mardi Gras theme, and has plenty of room for bigger crowds. Hopefully, more people will discover this place as it is nice to have a range of restaurants to try on the north side.

Amazing as always. I think this is a much better choice than Yats. Drunken chicken(aka– Datwich) is always a solid choice, So much flavor you don’t know what to do besides keep eating. The staff is on point as always. A great choice if you’re looking for something new.

Nice Cajun dishes — I had spicy chicken over rice with a good selection of hot sauces to add. Definitely a pleasing quick meal. Efficiently and pleasantly served, ‘Boss’.

Very tasty! As a lover of all things cajun, J Gumbo’s was definitely a yummy little treat from our boss for lunch. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the options are easy to understand(sometimes cajun menus can be intimidating… not here!) If you’re looking for something different, full of flavor, and outside the box, this is the stop for you!

Nice addition to the Taylor’s Bakery/McCalister’s Deli plaza. A bunch of brochures from J Gumbo’s had been dropped off at our office and thought I would give it a try today. Simple enough menu and easy to understand what you are getting. There are several appetizer options(dips and nachos), big bowl entrees(gumbo, jambalaya, chicken) over rice with bread, and Po Boys(mostly chicken). No shrimp anywhere on the menu(there is crawfish) which is kind of disappointing. Only two people working so definitely a bit slow(owner/partner running the register, other guy in the kitchen) Food came out relatively quick though for lunch. Went with the jambalaya and it was alright. I personally thought there was too much rice and not enough sausage, chicken, etc. The side of bread didn’t have the buttery addictiveness like you get at Yats but was still very tasty. They give out FlockTag cards… checked online and 11th entrée is free. Soooooo yeah. Probably a 3.5 star experience and round up for a new place. I would like to come back and try a Po Boy next time.
