We stumbled across this place as we were shopping for sea shells. They had a awesome claim chowder that day. The drinks are very refreshing and the atmosphere is cozy. I would certianly go back to this place.

Great find right off the beach. Burgers are awesome with patties made in house. Tacos are a winner. Don’t be afraid of the looks from the road. Must stop.

Blue cheese bacon chips are to die for! Maryland crab soup not so much. The crab was plentiful… just swimming in grease. To Her her credit, the waitress did ask if I would like to try something else, however I did not and just didn’t eat the soup because I was too busy chowing down the chips. The soup charge was removed from the bill and I thought that was a great customer service gesture. Everything at the surrounding tables looked wonderful and fresh. I will try the shack again. If you are looking for white tablecloths and candlelight try this place on a different occasion.

Great food and awesome beer selection. Best calamari we’ve ever had, hands down. The burgers and mahi tacos were amazing and the staff was friendly and knowledgable. A great little spot with delicious food, all around excellent!

Great food, okay service for my only visit. Two friends and I split the crab cake appetizer, calamari and peppers, and the fried shrimp dinner(comes with 8 shrimp). They are apparently known for their crab cakes, but I didn’t love it for the price. You do get sizeable chunks of crab meat though. Everything is large. The fries are cut thick, the shrimp are huge, the calamari was not your typical crispy thin tentacles. We weren’t greeted when we walked in, which isn’t normally a problem but it seemed awkward since we didn’t know that all the tables were filled. We waited about ten minutes before approaching a server, who explained the situation, and then a table opened up that minute. Our waiter seemed a little flustered or inexperienced. He would leave to get silverware then get caught up with something else. We were able to grab the silverware ourselves, and he kept our water glasses full, so the meal went on fine. It was surprisingly busy on a Tuesday night, but it isn’t the largest place. Although I didn’t venture into the rest of the restaurant, so I didn’t see all of it. I would definitely come back to treat myself to another memorable meal. It’s pretty classy for a beachside restaurant, and the food is a good value.

We stopped in right at 11:00AM on our way to St. Augustine, we found the tiny restaurant empty except for another couple so we knew we had arrived at the perfect time. The first thing that we noticed was how well this place is maintained, it is so neat and organized and exceptionally clean something you don’t always find in a lot of Florida’s small beach side restaurants. We were immediately greeted and given the menus and a extensive list of bottled beers and given a quick description of the beers on draft. We decided to try a IPA and a Mimosa the draft beer was ice cold which in my opinion is the only way to enjoy a beer, the mimosa was also very nicely prepared. I can’t say enough about the service here, the servers were very friendly and attentive but not to the point of being annoying, great service on top of great food equaled a overall great experience. –Skip Burger — I ordered it bun less and I’m so glad I did this giant 12oz hand formed patty was cooked to a perfect medium temperature topped with crispy lean bacon, a slice of cheddar cheese and topped with a fried egg. The fresh lettuce, tomato and pickles were served on the side making this burger absolutely one of the best fork and knife burgers I’ve eaten in a long time I chose fries as my side.(I wasn’t crazy about the fries because right across the table sat a pile of onion ring that had gotten my attention as soon as the server sat them down) As much as I wanted too it was impossible for me to eat more than half of this monster of a burger. –Grouper Bites — A very nice potion of Fresh Grouper fried in a light beer batter until they were crispy, no doubt this fish was super fresh, there are few fish that fry up better than grouper — light, flakey and mild tasting add in some tartar sauce and you have a great meal Turtle Shack can hang their hat on this offering. –Giant Onion Rings — These giant sliced onions are sweet and tender and fried extra crispy and it’s no wonder they are so popular. Do not come here and miss out on this treat. There’s no doubt this is one of the best options along A1A across from the beach I agree the view is amazing but it’s the food that will bring us back…

Saw the reviews in Unilocal and was intrigued. Pulled up and almost didn’t go on. Don’t expect a touristy fancy entrance. Had the hand made chips with blue cheese, bacon and balsamic vinegar. They were really good, as others have said. Wife had a cheese burger. A very picky eater who is always sending back her burger says it was done to perfection. «Very VERY good», she said. I had the crab cake which was also very good. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were very tasty and done to perfection. Some entertainment in a guitarist to play some tunes topped it all off. Overall an excellent experience. The place was getting packed when we left at 6 so get there early.

This is a very popular place judging from the crowds, & it is right along the beachfront area too. We came here for dinner twice. The menu has a lot in it, however if you are the oddball vegan there are 2 choices: veggie patty or mushroom burger. Since i hate mushrooms i had a veggie patty both visits. It would be nice if they had a meatless big salad(with the option to add meat). They also only serve beer & wine– no other alcohol. That’s a shame since my party would have had more drinks & spent more money had there been a full bar. I did taste someones onion rings & they were good! I also had broccoli & thought it was great. My husband normally doesn’t care for broccoli but he loved it too. While many in my group liked the restaurant & the service was good, my husband & I don’t think we will be back.

Never had anything less than a mouth watering, delicious meal here. We tried the Ahi tacos the way the server suggested w/slaw, avacado, and soy reduction. … AMAZING. I used to go for the amazing burgers but that’s my new favorite :-)

Great wine and beer list. Lots of fun craft beers. If you want a killer burger this is the place to go. Try the A1A burger-It’s the bomb! And the ocean view never disappoints!

Wow!!! Food was absolutely amazing. The burger(6oz or 12oz, we got the 12) was cooked to a perfect medium. Shrimp po boy was delicious and plenty of food. Their fries are tasty and so were the onion rings. Service was a bit slow but the waitress explained the past 2 weeks were really slow so they cut back on staff and of course this weekend, they were busy. Definitely recommend! Can sit indoors(and see the ocean) or outside. Prices are a bit high; entrees are very pricey but the sandwiches and burgers are reasonable. Burgers are $ 8 – 14 depending on what you get. Shrimp po boy was $ 11. Entrees are $ 17+. However the food was phenomenal and definitely worth the price.

I’ve been eating @ TS for many years. I love supporting local restaurants, especially the family who run it now. They have a great menu with an extensive beer list. Unfortunately, I was a little upset they didn’t have Two Hearted or could even offer it in a bottle. They normally have on draft. What happened? This is my fav beer and I always tell everyone they can get it here! Next, I noticed they increased their prices… understandable. However, please please please if you are going to charge 11.95 for seared tuna appetizer please get quality tuna. It was tough and the cut we received had lots of white tendons. I noticed another table that got ahi tacos and the tuna didn’t look as marbled as mine. It appeared I received a cut that’s should’ve been chowder or … Tip-Just don’t serve a tough piece of seared fish next time. For a pricier app, I’ll stick to your calamari which was excellent and plentiful for 3 people!!! For the burgers, my 6 oz burger was amazing with blue cheese. The hubs got a 6 oz burger too with Swiss. His was good too, but be prepared to get a little messy. Now, if you don’t like frozen fries please ask for their homemade chips. Also, the onion rings were very greasy. I will stick to chips or one of their other sides. I usually order the broccoli, but didn’t. I’ll be back again, please have Two Hearted on draft! Lastly, I’ve been here before and it’s been 5 star, so please please please let’s get back to that. Our service was OUTSTANDING, no problems there.

We came right at closing and the service and food were still excellent. Split the blackened jalapeño linguine and calamari and clams. Very tasty and flavorful. I Tried not to eat the healthy portion of homemade bread and seasoned butter dip… But I couldn’t help myself. The only downfall was the soups. Sent back and they charged for the bread even thought we didn’t order it initially, it was brought to us, we loved it, but would have never ordered it.

OK we heard about this place from several people, decided today to give it a try and WOW is my best way to explain how good the food was. We started with the Bacon And Blue Cheese Homemade Potato Chips and added the drizzled Balsamic Glaze they were absolutely delicious. We shared two sandwiches the Skip Burger which is ¾ pounds of Angus Beef topped with Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Fried Egg and we added Sweet Red Peppers. The burger was incredible messy and juicy cooked perfect. The Grouper Sandwich was HUGE and perfect. Their Onion Rings are delicious and huge.

Headed to Turtle Shack for a late lunch and were not disappointed. We sat at the bar and had two great Irish brews and then shared ahi tuna tacos and an awesome three quarter pound burger. The onion rings are to die for. They are the best we have had ever, rivaling the ones at the Varsity in Atlanta, which I cut my teeth on. A great conversation with a local at the bar netted us some fabulous tips on kayaking in the area. This is a laid back place with good food and no pretensions.

Ahi Tuna Tacos are the bomb. They have traditional with lettuce tomato and cheese or you can have slaw, and green onions. The wife and I went slaw and green onions for the win! Great food and fair prices.

Would love to give them 4 or 5 stars. But when the food takes 1+ hours to come out and you only ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich, a burger with onion rings somethings wrong. The burger was good not great. I got the mushroom burger, tasted like they put too much worcestershire on. While they are good burgers they aren’t the best by any stretch. Service was good. Service with a smile, but a little inattentive when you have to asked for refills your server isn’t doing their job as good as they can, especially when its not crowded and a small place. Price was very high. I don’t mind paying for qualify food. But when the price is high and the quality average, especially when it takes the kitchen one hour to make it, the place is not that good. 3 solid stars but no better than that.

A quick Unilocal search for a place to eat on the drive home to Orlando from St. Augustine brought my friend and I here! It was and say trip off the highway to the Turtle Shack’s great location just across the street from the beach. The restaurant is small and very casual. We sat on a screened in porch but they also had some outdoor seating too. I don’t believe there was air conditioning, but I could be wrong. I enjoyed the fish tacos, which were simple but delicious! The portion size was treat for the price as I definitely left stuffed! Waitstaff was really nice as well. This would be a great place to have lunch if enjoying the beach and it was a great way for us to extend our vacation with an awesome meal with a view!
