Los Altenos

My husband and I ordered take out here. We got the enchiladas de pollo and adobada burrito and shared both. The portion sizing was good and we enjoyed each entrée. The food was also ready in 10 – 15 minutes.

We were craving some Mexican food on a road trip out so we stopped by here before heading back to our Airbnb. The service was good: you order at the counter and they deliver it to your table. Prices were affordable. Food was pretty good. I got the special of the day: al pastor mini tacos with rice and beans.

I moved to Flagstaff just over a month ago from San Diego so when it comes to Mexican joints I’m a giant snob. The food, service, and cleanliness of this spot is top notch. The food is made fresh to order, it’s fairly priced, and it tastes amazing. Finally found a great taco shop in Flag! Five stars all day.

‘My girlfriend and I were coming back from a long day at the Grand Canyon. The service was fast and the staff was so friendly. We wish we would have gotten the young gentleman’s name who worked the front. He had outstanding customer service at such a young age. Hidden gem in this town.

This is actually one of the best authentic taquerias in Flagstaff. There are definitely a lot but these people do it right and the prices are even better. They also have a decent little salsa bar. Good home made food with a great price. what more can you ask for?

The Unilocal reviews are killing me. This was my second eatery stop of the day.
The sign on the outside reads «Real Mexican food» and it is so far from the truth.
Upon entering I walked up to the counter stood in front of the young woman at the cashier who just stared at me. No greeting, nothing. Nada. I thought for a minute she was blind so I said, «Hello.» Still not a word till I began placing my order. So strange.
I ordered the cheese enchiladas and a side of one hard-​shelled beef taco. Let’s just say I am thankful for the Tapatio sauce and jalapeño peppers because I had to kill my plate with them to get any flavor. The sauce was tasteless. Not a speck of red chile taste. The rice and beans were bland. The beef inside the taco seemed old.
The only bonus here was the complimentary guacamole sauce at the salsa bar which everyone seemed to love because they had to refill. All the other sauces at the salsa bar were very watered down.
This is not real Mexican food. The red enchilada sauce taste like it came from a can sold at the Family Dollar. Which I have never tasted but it would just seem.

Always a great place to eat. I’ve been coming here for over 6 years. In my opinion the breakfast burritos are the best in town. Menudo is always a great choice. The owner is very friendly along with his staff. I would recommend this place.

Looked for something quick to eat. Haven’t been through Flagstaff in over 15 years. This restaurant is clean, good and homey customer service. I got the bean and cheese burrito. was very impressed since it seems they make their own beans. could tell by the texture of the beans and also how the beans were not overly salty. brother got the fish burrito which was fresh and tasty. will be back to try more! they are not lying when they have «real Mexican food» on their sign.

Los Alteños is the epitome of Mexican food. I have rigorously searched for Mexican food in town and hands down its the best. Don’t let its outdated appearance full you. All of there plates are tailored with their own home style recipes and the prices are extremely affordable.

Service was very nice, that’s the positive thing. And the food was at least really good and quick. But the place just seemed closed off and dark to my boyfriend and I. Don’t know if that’s the same as everyone else, but it was really unwelcoming when we first saw the place. We also just wanted a simple, cheap dinner before we headed back home, but our bill was about 20 bucks. 20 bucks for tacos and some sides. Won’t be coming here for something cheap next time.

Typical taqueria. Pro: Food was decent and were good portions. Con: I’m not sure if it was the food or my just eating too fast, but I did have a stomachache after I ate here that lasted me the rest of the night.

Totally hit the spot. This place has great authentic flavors with no fuss. A lot of bang for your buck and totally worth a stop in to get away from the chain restaurants and hipster places.

Excellent food. One would pay much more for this quality in other restaurants.

This place is alright. It’s more of a fast-​causual restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. The service is slightly past average. Ladies are pretty nice at the counter and other workers are visible. There was just nothing about the food that makes me say, «yah! I’m a fan.» That said, there is nothing bad to say about this place. Salsa bar was clean and pretty tasty. Beans were alright. Prices are pretty fare.

Even though I had to play a game of” Where is Waldo «with the Chorizo in my Chorizo Breakfast Burrito, it was still pretty tasty.
Got my order fast even though the place was pretty busy and staff was friendly.
Since it was my first visit I will definitely return and try something different, the lack of chorizo could have easily been just a hiccup due to it being busy!

Not bad! Im visiting and was in the mood for inexpensive yummy Mexican food and I got it. Got the enchiladas and they were tasty!

I thought this was really good, but the mole sauce is one of the more bitter ones, not the sweet ones. If you’re getting an enchilada or wet burrito be aware of that. Otherwise, the staff was friendly, the carne asada was tasty, and the ambiance/​environment had a very comfortable «family-​run taco shop» feel.
If I had one recommendation to them it would be to consider putting spicy carrots (pickled carrots with onion and jalapenos) on the menu. Coming from San Diego, we’re very used to seeing these in the salsa bar. When my daughter asked for them the staff had never heard of them apparently. This could be an upgrade for the menu.

For a taste of old Mexico Los Altenos reaches the heights its name aspires to. Hungover on Sunday morning? Los Altenos menudo.* Washing machine broke or you are living out of your explorer? Los Altenos is next to a laundry mat and serves taco plates to hungry travelers. Art fanatic? Mexican and Catholic pieces adorn the walls in a way that instantly transports you via burro to the dias del ayer, pre-​Colombian and before hacienda bashing was cool. Next time you are up north stop in and say hola. You won’t regret it amigos!

Fellow Unilocalers are correct. I originally bookmarked this place based on other Unilocaler’s check in as it sounded good, thinking I will try here next time I am in Flagstaff.
I highly recommend this authentic and inexpensive Mexican restaurant. Lunch/​Dinner was anywhere between $ 4.99 to $ 7.99 and portion is very generous. Fresh homemade salsa complimented all the dish we tried.
They have regular soda fountain machine but they also sell soda in glass bottle. Why soda taste so much better when served in a glass bottle?
I will definitely come back again.
