Quality and taste had gone down during our last few visits. The traditional Portuguese flavoring and wood cooked meat flavor is missing. Might go back for another try, hoping they get their food back to what it was two years ago.

I’m a Texas boy so this is different than my kind of BBQ. That said I HIGHLY recommend it. The inside is a bit divey, but clean and nice. You can see over the counter to where all the meat is roasting over an open fire. I’ve done the brisket sandwich and the bifana sandwich. Go for the bifana… Very flavorful and zesty. Get the fries too. Some of the best in town.

After spending nearly 3 hours at the local Subaru dealer, I was starving. I asked where would be a good place to grab some food before heading home, and they replied«you like Barbecue?». Sold. Pulling up to the little strip mall, the place doesn’t look like your typical BBQ joint, but as soon as you walk in and see chicken rotating on the spit behind the counter and smell the sweet aroma of meat on the grill, you know you’ve come to the right place. My boyfriend and I split the ½ chicken and beef short ribs combo with sweet potato fries and cole slaw. That had to be some if the juiciest chicken I’ve ever eaten! Forget utensils, it was so tender I pulled a Medieval Times and ate it with my hands. Thankfully I found my table manners and used a knife and fork for the short rib steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium. I didn’t taste much of any seasoning besides salt, but that’s all you need when you cook meat this well! I would have given this place 5 stars because the food was out of this world, but sadly, because of the service I had to knock it down. Based on service alone I would have given it one star, even none if I could. The young woman who took our order was in a pretty unpleasant mood and when we asked her any questions, she rolled her eyes, gave us quick snappy answers and treated us like dumb patrons. Her attitude towards us was quite disrespectful throughout our time there and could even take the cake as one of the worst service experiences I’ve ever had. I would love to visit again in the future, but maybe next time I’ll consider ordering out rather than dining in.

Food is good but the blonde waitress is extremely rude. Terrible customer service and such an angry, aggressive person.

I just have to give this place another review. I’ve been her a few times and the bbq has always been good. I’ve stopped in for take out and they were very busy. I had to wait 20 min. but it was well worth it. I got a combo dish or chicken and ribs with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Very tasty

My first visit there was ok; perhaps others would be better. It is a little more expensive than the many similar places I have been to in Union County and a little less tasty. Very simple décor. Pleasant staff.

The ribs were quite delicious! I’ll be coming back for those again and also to try others items that look good on the menu.

Went there because I saw a friend dining there. Saw several plates go by and said I had to try it. I got the Half Ribs Half Chicken dinner to go. Really like the ribs needed more BBQ sauce but still very happy with the platter and will be going back again on my next trip there. The place is not much to look at which is really what I prefer. Focus on the food. With out a doubt this will be on my top ten for Flemington.

This has become our family’s weekly go-to place to get our pulled pork sandwiches. We always get take out. The sweet potato fries are stellar(and I hate sweet potatoes, in general). Just watch out for the spicy veggies that come on the side with your sandwich. Tonight I tried the Buffalo Chicken Salad, which was OK as the salad greens are mediocre(iceberg v. mesclun [sp]), but I admit to being a greens snob. Did I say mediocre? I could have fooled myself as I devoured the whole thing in about 20 minutes. The cost came to about $ 8 per person, which is a good deal considering the amount of food that you get.

After running late at an event was traveling home and stopped by. As I opened the door the sweet-smokey aroma hit me. I knew I was in for a treat, and got lost in the huge menu board on the wall. I like places where I can see my food getting cooked. In the side everything was cooking as I waited. I did take out as I wasn’t sure of the closing times. I did rice and vegetables. When I paid and the bag was handed to me, I felt like I picked up a bowling ball. Really heavy and huge portions. Do come with a friend and a healthy appetite. The meat had a very nice taste, something I could really not put my finger on. Kinda zesty, spicy, with a good sweet hiding in the favors. The rice was nice and the vegetables where ok, maybe not fresh? Frozen? Very little to complain about though. Don’t let my words of the vegetables throw you, very good meat with a unique taste. I would skip the BBQ sauce. It wasn’t one of my favorites. It seems store bought, and a bit overwhelming, but as I said don’t let that stop you from coming here.

After walking in and smelling the awesome smokey BBQ aroma, I was quite disappointed with the lunch that I got. The pork looked awesome spinning around in that grill and on my plate, but we were disappointed that the meat was very tough, with an unbelievable amount of fat and sinew inside. The chicken was a bit better, but it certainly wasn’t anything to rave about. You can get chicken like that anywhere. As for the vegetable sides, very basic. Steamed. Looked like it was out of the freezer and microwaved. Cole slaw was average. The fries were stellar though. Perfectly cooked and fresh out of the oil. All in all, I was disappointed with my lunch and so was my wife. Great fries can only go so far, unfortunately.

Best Portuguese BBQ around, Love their chicken and pork ribs. Huge portions for the price. Also when they have their chouriça potato skins they are the bomb.

On a quick trip to Flemington and environs, the best food I had was from Pork Chop’s. Not even going to bother to review the other places, they were so lackluster. We picked up a to-go order of many, many different things, all good. Probably my favorite was the pork ribs, but excellent too were the wings, plantains, sausage, pulled pork… oh my, I’m forgetting a lot, but if you’re in the area, you must go to Pork Chop’s!

I got a recommendation to try this bbq place from a few people. It is so delicious! Friendly owners. A real bbq pit. Some Purtaguse menu items were a surprise. It was so nice to find a real bbq place in Flemington!

This little shop is tucked in a small shopping center off route 31. Food here is good. I been here a couple of times and their standards haven’t slipped when it comes to taste. My gripe about this place is the wait. I don’t really understand why it takes 40 mins for my food to come when I’m the only customer sitting in the restaurant. Kind of baffling, but least the food is consistently tasty.

What a great find. I had been to Mel’s Bagels in this strip mall but never noticed this fine Portuguese spot. No worries, Unilocal tells me where everything is. My son and I arrived very hungry. We ordered up front and took a seat in the bustling place. A full rack of pork ribs and fries came right out. Ribs are on the smaller side but they were delicious! Not overcooked, not underdone. Just right. We dispatched them in short order and asked for another eight ribs. Consistency is important. These ribs were just as delicious. By the way, the fries were not your frozen variety. Really good dipped in their hot sauce. Pork Chops has an extensive menu of Portuguese specialties. We’ll be back soon to try them.

I am Portuguese and can’t believe I haven’t found this spot before after living in the area for over 10 years! I was recommended to go here and have already been back twice. The food is good Portuguese food high quality and fresh. So far I have gotten chicken, sweet potato fries, and regular fries. They have all been absolutely delicious! Brought food home for the family and they loved it too. Really happy to have found this place. I recommend ordering for pick up so that you don’t have to wait(roughly 25 minutes) for the food to cook. Decently priced!

I’m sure the food will be good if I can ever get service. With a reservation my party of eight has sat here for thirty minutes without menus or drink orders. Edit: The food came out in great abundance and was really top notch. Almost worth the wait. I added a star to my review and I will likely go back and give them another chance.

The barbeque was great, authentic, and unique… Really good! It’s a Brazilian, or Portuguese flair, barbecue with plantains… We stopped in based upon other reviews and we’re not disappointed. We had beef ribs and pork belly… Really tasty!

This was my first taste of Portuguese BBQ, and I did not know it was a grilling style before I sat down for dinner there last weekend. Housed in a low end strip mall on Rt.31 Northbound, the room was basic and a bit dreary. Still, I was not there for the atmosphere, and dynamite ribs could change my vision. I ordered the Pork Ribs, Corn Bread and Sweet Potato Fries. To drink I tried a Pineapple Soda manufactured in the old country. The 3 Star rank suggests that while everything was solid and tasty, none of it was a knock out win. My small sampling provided a few insights. First, while the ribs were tender and meaty, they lacked a strong flavor. My server suggested using the BBQ sauce in a table rocket even before the food arrived. I was surprised because in my travels through southern BBQ in the USA, there was seldom the need to add more flavor. That said, once squirted, the ribs were a pleasure to eat. Second, the Corn Bread was excellent. I huge chunk of soft, sweet, well textured, corniness covered half the plate. This was some of the best Corn Bread I have eaten. The same was true of the Fries. Fresh cut — the taste dominating even the ribs. Yes. The Sumol Pineapple Soda was unique and refreshing. Bottom Line — While I’ve had better ribs based on the quality of the pre-grilling rubs and sauces applied earlier in the process, these were still quality meats. I just would not rush back to have them again. Everything else on the plate was compellingly great. Were I to find myself back around Flemington, I would not hesitate to return and try something else on the menu.
