So the stewed beef is incredibly tender, but the white queso dip is to die for. Both my sister and I bought pints to take home!

When it comes to good Mexican food I would not recommend this place. The service was good but all the food came out lacking any particular flavor. It could be that I am just picky now that I have a mother in law from Mexico who cooks real Mexican dishes but even compared to the various places she’s taken me to eat this place seemed far from authentic. I would recommend it if you don’t care for any strong flavors and have never had real Mexican food.

This place is the best around for Mexican food. Average priced and fresh. The cheesecake in a friend tortilla was really good too. If in the area stop in here and try it. I really like their chicken. I got items with the shredded chicken in it and it was all white meat and was cooked perfectly. I was impressed. My husband got the pork and beef and said it was good. He is not too picky but I’m sure it is ok.

One of our go to places to eat, it does have WAY better service since the worst waitress I have ever seen is gone. Good food at comparable prices! They have flavorful food and it keeps us coming back.

I went for lunch with a friend just as a spur of the moment kind of thing and it turned out to be one of the best experiences I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time. Specials were fantastic from drink selection to lunch portions. We got drinks, appetizers, two full meals and a to-go, it was so good and spent under $ 40. Also, our server was super attentive and we didn’t have to ask for anything. She was on top of it. Wonderful place. Quick, well priced, and delicious!

El Potrero you are fast becoming my fav mexican joint. So tonight was the 2nd time I ate here. 1st time had nachos which were good. Diff b/c it was only chips, queso and burger. Not the typical toppings. Was good though b/c I afore their queso. So creamy. Tonight had THEE best shrimp & chicken quesadilla ever! Grilled shrimp(with grill marks!). Even had refried beans inside. SO good. I see this item in my near future. Also got med-hard beef tacos. Dope as well. Shredded cheese that looked to be hand done off a block. IDK if true but tasted amazing. Very satisfied.

Excellent food. Clear vegetarian ingredient disclosures(ex: stated on menu, ‘rice is made with chicken broth’). We were there during the Flint contaminated water issue. Disclosures posted regarding water use as well. Friendly service. Lacking ambiance and is dated, but food is worth a stop. I had vegetable fajitas minus all dairy and rice. Absolutely delicious! My husband had a gigantic shrimp quesadilla which was STUFFED full of shrimp!

I have lived all over, including San Antonio TX. Let me tell you that this is my all time favorite mexican restaurant ever. Whenever i am home this is the number one place i must eat at. Chimichangitas! Eat them. You need to. What is that cheese? Crack? I absolutely cant stop eating it. The stew beef they use is a great addition too. simply dishes that have just been perfected. i love el potreros.

My favorite Mexican restaurant anywhere. The food is always fantastic and prices are fair. Can’t get enough of the Mexican Parrillada!

My favorite Mexican restaurant to go to! I always get the Grande Burrito Fajita. I have gone here for the past four birthday dinners and try to go at least once every two weeks! Super clean and very friendly service.

One of the three El Potrero locations throughout Genesee County. Love their unlimited chips and salsa and margarita specials. Watch out, though– those margaritas are by no means weak! Very friendly and speedy service. You never wait for drink or chips n salsa refills. They have a decent number of vegetarian options, which is a big thing for me, as I am a vegetarian and don’t believe the world should revolve around beef. As for the veggie options, they are made with fresh veggies and the food isn’t oily or taste like it’s soaked in grease, so that’s a plus. It’s a nice place for dinner or even if you’re only stopping in for drinks and nachos, too.

El potreros has a nice environment and a decent bar in the middle. The food is above average quality as far as mexican places go. The environment is better than most. Prices are pretty standard like most similar places. The fajitas are really good. I also like the veggie fajitas. Quesadillas are good. Soft tacos are good too. This is a laid black place and the staff is pleasant. The rice is a typical rice like a lot of places; dry and plain; not so great. If I’m not in the mood for Mexican so much, I get the pollo Rico or pollo gringo, which are pretty good chicken meals.

We(5 of us) went to El Potrero on Mother’s day this year for a quick meal around 2pm. We waited in the lobby area for a bit while the hostess seated two other families. No big deal but I do like to be acknowledged when I enter any business. She then told us it would be a 15 minute wait. Cool! We waited and were seated about 10 — 15 minutes later. We sat there long enough before a waitress came over that we had time to figure out what we wanted to eat. So when she finally came, chips and salsa in hand, we each ordered what we wanted to eat and everyone asked for water to drink. The easiest way to get a good tip from me is to keep my water from going dry. Not necessarily full all the time, but present. I started to wonder if I was ever going to see a water to begin with. We are well into our chips and salsa by now and thirsty. more than 15 minutes later — water. Thank goodness! By now the chips are gone and the waitress asks if we would like more. Of course! When she leaves we realize we don’t have straws so make a mental note of it to ask in a few minutes when she brings us chips. At least another 15 minutes passes before she comes back. No chips. My water is completely gone. I ask for straws, we receive… then she says«Oh, would you guys like some more chips?»… Another 10 minutes before we got our food. Meanwhile, two different tables that came after us have received their food and their water is plentiful. It was not particularly busy when we were there from what I could see. I am aware that some mistakes happen and sometimes one may forget something small. but too many mistakes that night overall and I just needed water. When our food arrived it was good. Not the best, not the worst. My only complaint with the food was that my chicken was definitely not seasoned enough(if at all). Bonus that it wasn’t dry at least. 3 stars for food, 2 stars for service.

Great service Great food. The only thing preventing me from giving this visit 5 stars was the dry chicken served up inside my chimichanga Wife was very satisfied with her meal and the beer was amazingly cold… We are true fans and will be back!

They have great lunch specials. They don’t have an official wheelchair accessible bathroom but my chair can fit in if the for status open. They do have adequate accessible parking spaces. They have a huge lip at the front door and again on your way in to the dining area… be careful. The food is good and drinks are cheap.

This place is going down hill fast. We stopped here tonight. We were quickly seated. 16 minutes later we had not seen a waitress. We got up to leave and a waitress tells us to have a good night. We had this problem before they moved and did not go back until they relocated. Kind of wrote it off as a 1 time thing. We used to stop here every week and likely will not return.

Came here with a friend on a late, freezing cold night. There was only a few other people dining in. Our server was very friendly and made some good suggestions on what to order since we had never been here before. My friend had a shrimp and chicken dish with a white cream sauce on top. It came with soft shell tortillas, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, and sour cream. I had the shrimp enchiladas that came with grilled onions on top with the white cheese sauce. Both dishes came with Spanish rice. Both were excellent and the portions were large. The chips and salsa were also tasty. We were both very happy with our meals and would definitely come back if we were in the area.

I travel through all the states and I have to say this place has some really good mexican food. I ordered the pollo fiesta. Other places call it chori-pollo. It’s chicken breast with sausage on top. It was amazing! The seasoning was just right. I love mexican food and I rarely write reviews unless the food is really good. I will be coming back.

When an establishment moves out of a strip center into its own building nearby, that’s usually a pretty good sign that they’re doing good for themselves, which must mean that people enjoy their food. Such is the case with El Portrero, which scooted a bit north(next to Burger King) and and took up residence in an old rib joint. The décor and menu are pleasantly authentic/Tex-Mex with both traditional and progressive offerings plus a full bar that stands prominently in the center of the place. I ordered the El Guero Special — strips of grilled chicken, steak, chorizo, and shrimp sautéed with onions and mushrooms topped with melted cheese. Served with rice, beans, and tortillas for $ 11.99. Prices across the board looked to be very reasonable. Food was very tasty and the margs were awesome as well. My server was a little over-attentive, maybe pressure’s on to please here in the new location. They should fix the step from the host stand to the dining room. Someone may forget to say«watch your step» and bodies will stumble. Some miscommunication took a star off — your mileage may vary.
