Fitworks Florence

My husband and I are both members here and have been since Anytime Fitness closed and sold all of their memberships to Fitworks — so 4 or 5 years at least.
There are a lot of amenities that come with this gym — classes, nice locker rooms, women’s private workout area, childcare, cardio studio, classes, and personal trainers. They are also open 24 hours now, which is a bonus for early people like me. For the money we pay, that’s not a bad deal.
However! Even though they recently remodeled some areas of the gym, the equipment is still filthy. One of the ellipticals has had mud and dirt in the foot wells for months… since last winter at least. The ellipticals are always out of order too and several have missing/​broken grips on the handles. The equipment in the women’s workout area is gross and has seen better days, like years ago. I usually train early in the morning and there are rarely paper towels or cleaner to use. I have to walk all over the gym to find some to clean my machine.
I keep this membership because its cheap and its VERY convenient to my home, but they would benefit from a deep cleaning and updating their equipment! With brand new facilities like Crunch going in, they need to keep up on their game to stay comeptitive.

I did a trial run of Fitworks tonight and let me start off by saying, I really really wanted this gym to be the one I finally settled into. But seriously, it was nasty. The place was «still under construction» so the ceiling tiles were stained and missing, the outside was dirty, and the whole place seemed… Gross. I ended up getting a tour (which is the only reason this place got 2-​stars instead of 1), and then doing a very brief workout.
The hygiene of this place is non-​existent, and I really didn’t want to touch anything. The locker room had the cleanliness of a truck stop bathroom, and the lockers looked like they had never been wiped out. (Gym owners take note. Have a cleaning crew wipe the INSIDE of the lockers too. They get nasty.) The whole gym smelt like a McDonalds Play Place and was just as grimy. The elliptical I used was too gross to even touch, and the one weight machine I used had ripped cushions and was still covered in sweat. As much as I ripped on Planet Fitness, they at least knew how to keep a machine clean. Everything at Fitworks could stand to be given a Clorox bath to disinfect from the years of germs it’s accumulated.
I did have a friendly and non-​pushy sales guy walk me around and show me the gym with through explanations of the amenities. That’s why I’m giving it a 2-​star review. Mark was friendly and nice and made a great case for this place. Unfortunately the building and equipment spoke louder than him.
You probably guessed but I won’t be going back to Fitworks.

REMODLED!!! Very impressive. As I notated in my last review. I was going to increase on stars from 2 to 4, what a leap. New Remodeled, New carpet, New paint, new lights (very bright) like it. New rubber mats. Only issue I always have, is that they need to make sure All Treadmills are in working condition. You know how frustrating it is to try too find a treadmill that’s not always working, instead of being broken and Not being fixed. Please please keep all equipment working properly. Over all I have increased on Unilocal comment to a 4 star. Who knows in a few months I’ll increase it too 5 stars as long as they keep the treadmills working. Thank you again for remodel.

I have no idea where in the world Jay visited… or what time. but it is not the gym i know! FItworks is one of the best gyms out there. especially for the money and nothing is extra… everything is included. Even classes

I dont know where he comes up with dirty machines either… They are maticulous.
You must have hit it at a bad time, Jay, so please dont pay much heed tho this review. Maybe in 2011 the machines werent working but they are updated and new… and the staff is the best!!! Also free tanning and sauna.

I am not a gym junkie, but I have been to a few gyms. I started here as a promo deal and bought a personal training package (which was expensive… but I hope to see results).
I have found that cardio machines are broken or out of service often and it takes weeks to get them fixed (and sometimes they never work like they did befoe). This is my biggest complaint as I am a bit picky on my machines.
I was a member here before and there were TVs and internet at most of the cardio machines and classes were frequent and included in membership — those days are long gone! Classes are not as good and cost extra if you are not a premium member.
All in all is an ok gym and I’ll probably learn to be less critical during my two year contract :-)
