CrossFit Y’All is amazing. I’ve been training with JD for almost 2 years. Every so often someone enters your life who totally enables you to become a better you. JD has been one of those people and has helped me make significant changes in my life.
Two years ago, I was taking blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. After a year at CrossFit, my doctor took me off the medications. I lost 30 pounds and gained muscle and built considerable endurance. At age 50, my cardiovascular health is as good as ever. All I can say is I did it under JD’s caring counsel.
What makes CrossFit Y’All different? First, every class is coached. We do hard stuff — including Olympic lifts. We do lifts that they don’t allow at some gyms (such as overhead squats). The coaches teach you the technique and then carefully watch and tweak your efforts. Second, the community is amazing. You see the same people in your classes. While that can be bad, it isn’t at CrossFit because we’re all in it together. We cheer each other, cuss at the coaches together, and have a great time. Third, CrossFit is effective. The workouts («WODs») are varied and will elevate your heart rate. But it’s not all strength and cardio. At my age, flexibility is critical. Every class includes flexibility, also called mobility. As a desk jockey at my job, my body has adapted to certain positions that aren’t conducive to flexibility. The coaches provide stretches that have really helped my hamstrings, hips, and back.
Another thing to consider about CrossFit is how they scale the workouts. A 50 year old will not compete with a 20 year old — well, not in everything. The coaches know how to adapt the workouts so you CAN get an effective workout. They use bands and other modifications that can still be very challenging. So, even if your 50 and can’t touch your toes or climb your stairs without resting, START with CrossFit. They will help you make major changes in your life.
