Salami. Cucumber. Crispin Glover. How can I pass up a sandwich like that? Windmill Coffee is a darling, independent coffee house serving up great brew, sandwiches, and sweets. Their toddy provided me a much needed jolt one morning during an early meeting in Florence. The aforementioned Crispin Glover sandwich caught my eye and I had to stop by here again for lunch. All of the Windmill sandwiches have intriguing names, but being a fan of salami and cucumbuers, Crispin hit the spot. I was also tempted by the truffles in the baked goods window. I tried the coconut and spiced chai; moist, creamy cake surrounded in a white chocolate ganache.(The spiced chai was BLUE colored!!!) Exciting. If you’re looking for a great meeting place for clients in the Florence area, skip that national chain and take them to Windmill. Price per person: $ 5.00

I’ve been longing for a local coffee shop that respected my taste for the bean! Finally, there is a local place I can go that cares about the quality of my coffee and espresso! They’ve all been trained by the Cincinnati Espresso Guild, from the proper way to do a pour over, to Latte Art, to making sure the shot pour is not bitter and pulling the shot away at the perfect moment! And, recently I’ve been enjoying the naturally sweet green tea latte! Iced or hot it is perfect!(Everything about Windmill is so far and above Starbucks, the coffee snobs/geeks can finally save our gas money and not have to travel across the river into Cincinnati. Just tell the the person across the bar your level of coffee geek and you will be well taken care of! Please support organic, fair trade, and local!

This is my go-to coffee shop when visiting my friends and family back in Northern Kentucky. The baristas know what they are doing — and this practically unheard of in this part of the country. It’s a great place to work if you’re like me and need a wi-fi connection and superb coffee. And the tunes are great as well. I would rate this place as a 5 star for coffee in NoKY… but after living in San Francisco and now Denver, it’s not a 5 star compared to shops in those cities. But it has no peers in its immediate vicinity [1]. [1] — Update(17 May 2012): I hear there is a nice coffee shop around the corner(Velocity Bike and Bean), though I can’t comment on the quality as I haven’t tried their coffee.

The Good: Great Coffee, Unique Food, Great Staff, Original Art Work, Low Prices The Bad: Sometimes they run out of baked goods, the actually make the Lattes by hand so they are not fast. I am a regular and this is a great local place. They have great, high quality coffee, pastries and sandwiches. Their prices are very low and the staff is great. The have rotating displays of local artists and fast WIFI. They have a great selection of sandwiches and baked goods although the run out of items too often.

Great coffee. Well crafted espresso drinks. I found this shop while staying at the Cincinnati Airport Hilton. It’s is a bit of a walk but worth it. Much better than Starbucks! I will be back.

Very impressive. Delicious food, great service, nice ambience. Came here for breakfast after rejecting the awful hotel option. Fruit cup was delicious and really big for $ 1! They gave us 2 quiches to make up for a bagel that broke(but was still delicious!). The food was all really yummy and nothing was too hard for them. Lunch menu looks creative and tasty too! Conversation was lively and the hosts were super nice. Definitely put this place on your list.

For some reason I seem to be finding myself in Florence(Ya’all) a lot recently. And thank goodness Windmill Coffee is there to back me up. With a drive through for those crazy busy days and plenty of seating and tables inside of the days I can slow down a bit, it’s always the perfect pit stop. I’ve never been a chai person, but Windmill has changed that. They make their chai tea. I mean, like from scratch. Woah! That extra attention to detail makes all the difference. A few times a week now I crave a dirty chai. No, I’m not being crass. A dirty chai is a chai tea latte with a shot of espresso in it. Delicious and energizing! Windmill Coffee. Dirty chai tea latte. Do it. Now. Go.

Always friendly service and amazing drinks! The art on the walls adds an awesome local friendly feeling! Stop in here if you are tired of paying double for the same old same old from other coffee shops that will remain unnamed!

Best Feature: Delicious food and coffee! Worst Feature: Totally missed the Unilocal promo — could’ve saved $. So this is a great little gem we came across one day when searching for a place for brunch. We’d dropped our pup off at the groomer’s nearby and checked the Unilocal app to see what eateries were around. We pulled up outside Windmill Coffee to find some other food places there — a chinese restaurant and a few others. It was late morning, so we debated on where to go, but we decided to check out what Windmill had to offer. We entered to find a charming little café of sorts. The food menu was written in big chalk letters on a wall nearby — very artsy and super cute; excellent use of the architecture! Prices were fairly reasonable and I liked their drink selection, so we both ordered a sandwich and a coffee. I got The Angry Bird sandwich(shaved turkey, cheese, rosemary mayo) and he got the Crispin Glover(cucumber, dill and caper cream cheese, salami and gouda). We each tried one another’s sandwiches and both were absolutely fantastic! I couldn’t honestly say whose was better, but needless to say they were devoured. For being smaller-looking sandwiches, I was quite full by the end. We got it on a focaccia bread and were pleased with the bread/sandwich ratio. I ordered a spicy mocha and he ordered a white chocolate drink. Mine was great — a little warmth to a normal mocha, while his was a bit too sweet and bland(his words«just tastes like creamy milk») for him. I tried his as well and liked it enough, but mine was definitely the winner in terms of flavor. I loved the interior — not over decorated, but had some local promotions going on. Love seeing the local support for bands, events, etc! The walls were a bit bare, but you could see they must hang art pieces as they had empty hooks where I’m sure things are displayed. They had barstools at counters as well as a couple chairs and tables to sit at(not a ton). The staff was very nice and had our orders out to us in a timely fashion. The worst part of the trip was I didn’t check in sooner — there was a Unilocal ad at the time for a small % off drink orders — totally missed it! Not their fault :) So it doesn’t count against them at all, but be sure to check in before you order in case they have a special! I had already paid by the time I saw that. My bad. The food is delicious, the drinks quite yummy, prices reasonable, and the interior /ambience is definitely enough that I’ll return! Love this place!

If you want coffee, tea, or delicious baked goods, Windmill is the place to go in Florence/Erlanger, KY. To tell you the truth, I am not a huge coffee fan. I drink it occasionally, when I am in the mood for a jolt of caffeine or want something strong and bitter. They have a great selection at Windmill, and I am sure I will have some in the future. However, I do really love tea. Windmill has lots of choices as well. I was offered 2, green or black iced tea, but also told any of their teas can be iced. Nice to know. The black was a perfect iced tea, a little bitter, but refreshing. They even offered simple syrup to add to it so the sugar is already dissolved. That brings me back to my days in Japan, where all coffee and tea houses had simple syrup. I do wish they had lemons, but oh well. Windmill is very welcoming and friendly. They have free wi-fi, which a number of people, including I used. Some people sat and lounged, while others came in and out for their caffeine rush. I got to listen to some good, friendly banter between the employees, which was fun. The music in the background, was a fun mix of current and older electronic and indie rock, and was waaaaaay better than the way too loud Jazz, and old folks rock they play at Starbucks. I will be back a the Windmill, in fact I might breeze on in tomorrow morning.

My coworker told me about this place. It’s very close to where we work and last week I tried it out for the first time. I am an enormous chai freak and the owner of Windmill makes her own chai. It was outstanding. Best chai I’ve ever tasted. They also have coffee drinks and their food is all locally grown. I had their Angry Bird sandwhich and it was extremely delicious. They have fruit or chips for a side. Their prices are not bad either. They are open for way longer hours than most new shops so stopping by before or after work is quite easy. There is a tiny sidewalk patio outside and they have drivethru! Honestly this is a really outstanding little place.

Unilocal Cincinnati’s Fearless Leader and friend Alex Shebar said in his review of Windmill, «Ah well. Enjoy it, you KY folks, it’s pretty fantastic.» Well, Alex, you’ll be pleased to know that I indeed DO enjoy Windmill Coffee. And I’m not even normally a coffee person. First off, yes, this looks like your ordinary coffee shop from outside. But step inside, and you’re not at a Starbucks, I guarantee. Local artists’ wares adorn the walls on a frequent basis. They serve extremely good coffee, and if you’re not a coffee person and can’t get into it for even a minute… not to worry, there’s other options. This is a great place to chill out(or take cover from a sudden severe thunderstorm, as I recently found out). With free wifi, I was able to monitor my iPod touch to see(and alert people of) what was happening with my traditional weather applications, twitter and facebook. There’s not much seating, but what there is actually makes things a little more cozy. Overall, 5 stars, because of the wifi, the coffee, and the best part being that this is only five minutes from my house, which makes it an EPICWIN.

We found Windmill Coffee using Unilocal while visiting family in the Cincinnati area. Awesome coffee. We did not know what we wanted and the Batista made us his special after asking a few questions about what flavors and caffeine levels we liked. He made us two different coffees that was right on target. so much so that my husband purchased a second coffee of the same flavor before we left! Loved the cinnamon toast crunch and the autumn harvest coffees! Oh and make sure to try their Capers and Chives Cream Cheese… We will be back

Windmill Coffee is definitely a gem. The first thing I noticed was how welcoming the place feels. Jill, the owner, struck up a conversation with me immediately and even remembered me when I returned a few days later. After my first visit, she gave me a small stack of coupons to share with my office. She even invited me to sample some of the new breads they’re going to use for their sandwiches! The great service is backed up by amazing drinks and food. I went for the Angry Bird sandwich(awesome name, huh?), and it was delicious. And huge! I’ve had the iced coffee, which was strong, but I regard that as a good thing. My favorite drink is definitely the chai, though. It’s a flavorful, homemade mix of spices and tea. Nothing fake here at all! Windmill Coffee is such a treat to have in the Florence area. I’m definitely going to be a regular at this place!

I stumbled onto Windmill Coffee shortly after they opened and I’ve been back almost everyday since. Jill and her staff have worked to make sure that Windmill sells high quality food and drink in an atmosphere that is relaxed and very enjoyable. Because I’m someone who has approximately a million food allergies, I read labels on everything so I can say that the food and drink served at Windmill is made of high quality, excellent ingredients. It’s real stuff… no high fructose corn syrup, no chemicals… just real, delicious food. The chai is Jill’s own recipe and is fantastic. The smoothies are made from real fruit juice. The coffee is freshly roasted and the options from the espresso bar are almost endless. Free wi-fi and plenty of plugs make this an ideal place to spend a day. Stop by the Windmill and check it out for yourself!

I’m giving this place a Four Star rating because, 1) The coffee is pretty darn good and 2) it’s NOT Starbucks(which I go to all the time… I just like to go to non-chain places if available). Windmill seems like it’s still getting off the ground so go a couple of times before you make any final decisions. I have had coffee from this place twice so far… the first time was excellent and the second time it was good(but they were training some kid some I’m willing to cut them some slack). The breakfast selections are pretty limited but I think if this place take off a little bit they could pick up. I have never had one of their lunch sandwiches but they looked excellent based on the description. I agree with all the other reviews on here… the place is great and will get even better when supported and given time to grow. I hope the Unilocal community will turn out and give this place a chance. It’s worth it!

I love this place; the very good coffee and the fantastic staff make it worth the trip South. The owner hand-grinds the chai spices– try the dirty chai with soy milk. DIVINE. Seriously. DIVINE. ** ETA I don’t consume dairy and I later found out that the chai mix actually has dairy in it :(A little disappointed that the barista somehow didn’t know about the dairy, and that I thought my upset stomach was from sugar and not dairy. I still love this place but be careful about your allergens, folks! Thanks.

Windmill Coffee is deceptively interesting. From the outside, it looks simply like every other coffee shop. In fact, with a name like semi-generic name like Windmill Coffee, it’s quite possible that it could be a chain and there are thousands of Windmill Coffees throughout the nation, and they’re finally making their way here. This is not the case. Windmill was opened only a few months ago by a woman named Jill and is completely independent. They serve a fantastic ranges of coffees with La Terza coffee beans, which is roasted here in Cincy, and food, including mini-quiches and tons of different in-house made sandwiches with amusing names like The Crispin Glover. I got the Cuban sandwich and it was amazing. Fresh and delicious with the right touch of spice. Mmm, loved it. The walls were bare when I was in, which seemed strange until they told me there were transitioning from local artist’s display to another. There is seating at the counter and some tables throughout. I only saw two leather chairs for private sitting and I wish there was a little more. But you can only do so much with the space you have. And free wifi! Yes, win. The real problem is, at least for me, that it’s just so far away from me. I’m so rarely in Florence. A real shame too, because that sandwich was delicious and I would get it again and sit and do some work here. Ah well. Enjoy it, you KY folks, it’s pretty fantastic.

For barely being open for a week, Windmill Coffee pleasantly surprised me! I knew of Jill from Park + Vine but didn’t know until today that she has pursued her own venture in Northern Kentucky, opening a small coffeeshop/café in a Burlington Pike strip mall. Their small menu consists of a variety of sandwiches, baked goods(bagels, english muffins, donuts, cookies, etc.), oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, juices, coffees and teas. I ordered the«Crispin Glover» sandwich — italian meats with gouda, cucumber slices, and dill spread on white ciabatta — along with a small mocha. The sandwich was made fresh and fast. It was filling and just the right price. My coffee took a bit longer, but it was definitely worth the wait and a lot less expensive than the equivalent at Starbucks. The man who made my sandwich came out to ask me how I liked it, since they had made very few of them since the shop opened. He really enjoyed hearing my feedback and I can tell that they will be good at perfecting their menu in the weeks, months, and years to come. The space itself is great, clean, and well-decorated. There is a drive-thru that is not currently operational, and I hope that they do open it when they’re ready! There is free wi-fi and plenty of seating, making it a great option for a lunch break or study session. I think as time goes on and more people take notice of Windmill Coffee, it will be the breath of fresh air Florence needs. I look forward to seeing it grow!
