Ok so even though the previous reviews were not that stellar, I decided to stop by here for a takeout. The girl at the takeout window was nice, and was a new employee. I kinda felt bad for her because the other women there were more interested in talking than helping the poor girl figure out the order and system. Finally she chased down enough of the seemingly uncaring other employees and got the order entered. The order came up in a reasonable amount of time, I paid, and off I went home. Should have opened the boxes at the store, because they left the coleslaw and barbecue sauce out of both orders. Lucky I had some in the fridge. The sliced turkey and sliced beef were good, but the bill for 2 meals (no drinks) was $ 28; seems kind of high, but inflation I guess. I’ll go back, but I’ll open the boxes before I leave. If I could offer anything, TEACH YOUR STAFF TO TRAIN YOUR NEW PEOPLE INSTEAD OF STANDING AROUND TALKING.

Went for a late lunch. Place was empty. Waitress was slow, unsmiling, and unfriendly. My turkey sandwich was dry. My girl’s pork was good but not chopped as requested. This store is sometimes great and sometimes mediocre like today and sometimes worse. I’ve sent in comment cards but it’s about the same.

Best Sonny’s experience we’ve had ever. The server was nice and competent. She also stayed on top of drink refills and offered to go drinks. The food came quickly and it was piping hot. We will definitely be back.

This place is horrible! It is very dirty. There was food caked on our table and I had a hard time cleaning it off. The food was below average. Small portion of pulled pork. The sides were cold. The corn nuggets were the best thing we had. The waitress was nice, but the manager was awkward. He came and tried to make small talk with us while we were eating. He continued to linger there giving us a history lesson on space shuttles. My husband had a T-​shirt on that said NASA. My husband and I were very uncomfortable and looking at each other like when is he going to go away. He was so awkward. He moved to the next table and stayed there talking with them for awhile. Overall I will never come back here. Too expensive for less than average food.

My husband and I ordered each a 2 piece chicken breast dinner for supper tonite. Waited awhile for server, then waited a LONG time for food, had to keep asking the server where our order was. Finally came, my husband’s dinner arrived as ordered. Mine was missing a chicken breast, was told they would adjust the price. I told server I didn’t come there for half my supper. Server brought out some wings a little while later. I to, d the manager it had been two years since we ate there and now I remember why! There was another upset couple near us who had issues too. My advice, eat elsewhere! This place is totally disorganized!

That’s how you know you’ve landed at a pretty good BBQ spot. This place has plenty working here and being served. A very good sign. :)
I think it’s taboo in the south to admit you like Sonnys BBQ. I’m mean… it’s not competition Q… but it ain’t bad. I haven’t been in years. Just popped in here for a quick sandwich. Good meat and good sauces. Got in and out pretty quick for lunch. Sonnys parking lots are usually pretty full. Somebody likes it.

We eat here about twice a month, usually after church on Sunday. Food is always good and consistent.
Service is always good and the manager usually stops by to check.

I was visiting my good friend who just moved to Georgia. We had one too many glasses of wine at home and didn’t feel like cooking so we had her fiancé drive us here.
The food was OK. but the customer service was HORRIBLE. I am clearly a minority in this area… why would you feel that it is ok to come up to OUR table and start telling racist jokes? Really? seriously?! Living in CA, i am from a pretty diverse neighborhood and can take a little joking around, but this guy was just off his rocker.

This Sonny’s is a regular stop for us on the way to Lake Lanier on Friday night in the summer.
It’s not a 5 star restaurant — it’s a Southern BBQ joint. It’s not a unique, family run for 3 generations kinda place — it’s a chain. They aren’t 100% consistent — occasionally the staff gets overworked (probably when too many people call in sick) — occasionally the meat is dry or the salad bar needs refilling. But 90% of the time this is a great place to grab some good BBQ.
Some BBQ places are known for their pulled (or chopped) pork — some for their sliced pork. I think of Sonny’s as a sliced kinda place. But the baby back ribs are pretty good too.
And summer of 2012 they seem to have gotten much better on the service — I think they have a new manager.

I’m a sucker for all you can eat barbeque and sonny’s does it right. Not the best ribs and chicken you’ll ever have, but with the sauces, it makes one good tastey meal. All the sides taste delicious.

I don’t know what happened, maybe I was just getting the wrong things before, but this time the food was pretty dang good. I got pulled brisket. someone complained about the meat having fat — brisket is supposed to be loaded with fat if it is done right, so maybe that is the deal is that this place does brisket well and ribs poorly. The ribs, which is what I was was eating last time, still did not look very good (too tough and dry).
I dig what people are saying about poor service because there is one very surly waitress who was there when we were there the last time and still works there. But there were two other waitresses who were very nice to us and even remembered what we ordered from the day before. One of them gave my friend a sticker and a hug because he was grouchy.

Customer service… what’s that?
–The meat is ok it has fat
–The sauces are good
–It is semi-​clean
–I had a coupon and asked the waiter what to order to use the coupon. When I went to pay they would not take the coupon so I asked the manager and he said I could not use it, and that I ordered the wrong thing… they never honored it!

Sonny’s BBQ…
So — I decided to give Sonny’s another chance. We had lunch today — the food was ok — nothing special — the prices were ok — not that great — but once again the service was AWFUL — TERRIBLE.
Horrible service just really causes my view of a restaurant to go downhill fast — regardless of how the food or prices stack up.
C’mon people — get some good waitresses in there — we have 10% unemployment — you should be getting the best of the best.
