Same as Happy Garden Restaurant Actual rating: 0 out of 5 stars. Came here for late lunch after celebrating my little cousin’s birthday at Chuck E Cheese. This is my second and last time at this restaurant. What a disaster this place was. The food was sub-par, and service was terrible. Our main problem with this place this time, was an order of deep fried fish. This dish came out completely burnt and charred. It was inedible. We brought this to the attention of the waiter that took our order, and he took a pair of chop sticks, poked at the fish, and told us that the chef seemed to over-battered the fish before deep frying, and that’s why it looks so dark, and to simply eat the inside and leave the burned skin. This was an unacceptable response. If we had wanted to eat only the meat and not the crispy skin that this dish was supposed to have, we would have simply ordered steamed fish, and save ourselves the trouble. Not to mention, the meat inside the fish was bitter. Has anyone been to any respectable restaurant and was served burned, bitter fish? I don’t think so. Next, the owner(or who I assumed to be the owner, or at least a manager) came into the restaurant, and we brought this matter to his attention. His response? The oil is not new, and has been reused so many times that it’s a little dirty and that is why the fried fish came out like this. In other words, this upper management has just confirmed to his patrons that they don’t use fresh and clean ingredients and oils in their food. I don’t expect any restaurant to have fresh ingredients or change their oils daily, especially in this area given how they’re always 50% empty, but to use oils that is obviously not usable, is unacceptable. Both the waiter and the owner/manager acknowledged the problem of the dish, and both came up with different excuses for the problem. Yet, neither of them wanted to rectify the problem that was so clearly in front of them. I’ve never been to any restaurant in Flushing that didn’t at least offered to bring the dish back to the kitchen and make a new one. Other than the fried fish disaster, the rest of the food was of low quality. Overly greasy and tasteless. The floors were slippery and the tea cups had red lipstick stains on it. I would steer clear of this place. This restaurant left such a bad taste in our mouth literally. I would put zero stars if Unilocal had allowed it.

The dim sum is so good! I think I like this place better than Lake Pavilion. Both are tasty but this place just caught my taste buds even more. This place isn’t new, they just changed the name of the restaurant and provided dim sum. It’s not a place where you will see carts pushing around, they take your order and they provide you with it. The staff was friendly and the food is delicious. I really recommend this spot. The dim sum is mostly $ 2.25 each.

i wandered into this place because of the sign outside $ 2.25 for dim sum at lunch during the week. I didn’t feel like waiting on long lines across the street. All the signage outside was in Chinese but my friend is fluent in mandarin. You order dim sum off a menu by checking the boxes, handing it to waiter who brings you the food. they have a take-out place right next door on the corner. The menu says freshly made dim sum. I thought the food was very good and tasted fresh, maybe even better than place across the street, and no waiting! I thought the service was pretty friendly and efficient. But this was at lunch when it was not too crowded. We also ordered a beef chow fun. It was a huge plate, more than enough for 3 persons and very tasty with«wok hey». I don’t understand why all the signage outside is in Chinese but they have English menus with pictures of everything and the wait staff speaks English. The regular dim sum was $ 2.25, the ones with shrimp cost more. We went back 2 weeks later and they only charged us $ 1.50 for the regular dim sum. The beef chow fun was very good again.

My family used to order takeout from this place on a regular basis and they still decided to rip us off with horrible quality seafood. When my family came here for lobster dinner, the waiter lit up and recommended their live fish, «sun hok». The fish meat was so unfresh, mushy and smelly. As a seafood lover, I wanted to spit out the meat. When we questioned them about it, they said that this species is normally mushy when fresh, that’s why it’s so cheap at $ 30. We never had this fish before so we shrugged and said we’ll have to try it again somewhere else. Well we had«sun hok» at a banquet last night where the meat was succulent, sweet, chewy and flaky instead of tasting like dead crabmeat. It is disappointing to know a place where they treat return customers with rancid fish to make a quick buck.

No service — has to call the waiter every time for service. Sunday morning dim sum has no push cart. Food is dry on top — evident that it has been sitting out for quite some time. Small selection of food. Some food items are made to order, but it take more than 15 mins to come out even we are the ONLY table in the ENTIRE restaurant. Don’t waste your time and money!!! This place(the dim sum department) is not going to survive.

I don’t know why this place has such low reviews, the food here is great and the service is just right. I’ve been here twice and the food has been consistently good. My favorite thing on their menu is the Peking pork chops, they’re so good and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t like pork! It wasn’t greasy and the portions were big. They also have this great fish dish, I don’t remember what it’s called, but it was one of those 2 dishes for the price of one. The fish is cooked and served 2 different ways and it was delicious. The waitresses/waiters were nice and seemed to really know the menu. They didn’t come bothering us while we were eating, but still attentive enough to refill our tea when needed.

I originally checked in to this place under the old restaurant name«Happy Garden» I’m not surprised at the low ratings when it came to the service. The place overall is really not bad when it comes to tasty and generous portions of Cantonese food. I must agree with other fellow Unilocaler’s service could use some improvement. We arrived at 6:30PM on a Friday evening with 7 people in our entourage. We sat and were immediately given our menu and served tea. Now the place at the time was not full of patrons. I saw two other tables that were occupied and it appeared that the people were winding down their meals. So I figured our meals should come out of the kitchen fairly quickly, we ordered 8 dishes in total. The food flowed out of the Kitchen in this order: 1. Steak with broccoli served on a sizzling hot plate — The sauce was a little on the sweeter side, but very good. 2. Pork chops with salt and chili — Nicely fried crispy and crunchy, but lacked flavor and under seasoned. 3. Seafood with vegetables with stuffed seafood spring rolls — This dish was one of my favorites! The scallops, shrimp, squid and cuttlefish were flavorful and the spring rolls were very tasty After our 3 dishes rolled out of the kitchen the rest of the dishes came to a dead halt! So we wait, and wait and wait for 15 minutes. We flagged one of the waitresses down to inquire about the rest of our food. After checking the food order ticket she spoke to the Manager running the floor who in turn screamed at the kitchen to stop working the take out orders first and cook for the patrons dining in. After she gave the kitchen staff a «PEPTALK» The food started to flow out again 4. Mince dry scallop with egg and salted fish fried rice — This rice dish was just stellar! Nicely seasoned and rice cooked perfectly 5. Pan fried flounder — Over fried and on the dry side. I know it’s fried but it was devoid of moisture. One of the managers did a great job in deboning the fish for us though 6. Pea shoots with thousand year old eggs, salted duck eggs and mushrooms — I really enjoyed this dish, the pea shoots were a little a on the«old» side, but overall this dish was very good! 7. Mushroom Lo mein — Typical lo mein but a little over salted for my taste. Our last dish took forever again. After inquiring about our«MIA» entrée we were told by management that they had just finished butchering the chicken and is being cooked now, so it is very fresh! Yeah! and so is the BS! 15 minutes later our final #8 dish arrives! 8. ½ steam chicken with ginger and scallion sauce. — You would figure this last dish should be the«Piece de resistance»! Unfortunately the chicken though very moist was bland as bland can be! The sauce was devoid of any flavor, extremely under seasoned! I do like this place because overall the food is decent and you get a lot of food for your money. They do need to tighten up on how the«ticket orders» are managed between the wait staff and the kitchen. So customers like myself can get our food in a reasonable amount of time. I do plan to return in the future, hopefully I can bump it up another star or two, I’m rooting for you guy’s!

Party of three for a Saturday lunch after a very disappointing lack of parking space in Flushing we came here as a last resort despite of reading all the bad reviews. All the 1 and 2 stars are dead-on accurate. Upon entering we noticed the dinning area was near empty with only two parties occupying the whole restaurant. We ordered two dishes of meat, one bowl of noodle soup which were all mediocre. It was heavily loaded with grease, MSG and oil. Service was inattentive to flag attention. We had to chase the waiter to attain two bowls of white rice to accompany our lunch while he fled to never, never land to do off-the-job nonsense. Extremely overpriced. Despite of this establishment’s name«East Dim Sum» which implies Dim Sum is readily available, there actually is NO Dim Sum! There are no Dim Sum push carts, nor anything resembling Dim Sum. EEK!

If i could give this place a zero I would. I had a family of 10 come in at 6:30 pm for dinner. There were only at most 4 families seated downstairs, and 1 upstairs. They had us go upstairs since they didnt have a big enough table to accommodate us all. We sat down at 6:30 and we ordered 8 dishes. I knew from the beginning that something was off because it took more than 30 minutes to bring the 1st dish out. We had to chase the servers down to get some soy sauce, napkins and rice. Kid you not, we sat there for 2 hours and we only got 4 of our dishes. I was pissed. Our total came to be $ 180… When we sat down there was one other table besides us upstairs. When we ordered at around 6:45 another family had come in. There were actually other parties that came in an hour later and they recieved their food before us! The reason for that? Apparently that family was from the same neighborhood as the owner so they got served first. Even though, we got there FIRST. I noticed they served people based on who knew who. They dont give a damn for the other parties id youre not from the neighborhood the owner lived in. If it gets bust, you’ll be ignored. Oh and did i mention that the dishes we ordered was ACCIDENTALLY served to another table?! This is the first time that I left a restaurant hungry. I wasnt satisfied at all. This was supposed to be a joyous dinner as my aunt had gotten a new job, but this turned out to be horrible. The lady who works at the counter downstairs? My advice is to fire her. Not only did she gives us an attitude, but when we told her to cancel our dishes she ignored us. Oh and hire some more servers. You had 4 servers taking care of over 60 people. You have got to be kidding me. It was our second time coming here, but never again. If you want to come in for a good, enjoyable dinner experience, then dont. But if you want to come in for an unsatisfying, slow service, and shitty attitude type of dinner, this is the place for you. I love their food here, but if youre gonna make me wait 2 hours for my food and then have it served elsewhere, youre not getting any of my money. I will NEVER come back to this establishment ever again.

Monday Feb 1620015. at 6 pm for my family of 6 for end of the year dinner. We made reservation Friday Feb 13 and preorder whole Peking Duck. Our orders consist of 8 dishes. I’m was born and grew up in Chinatown Manhattan NY. Been living in Flushing for 34 years. I’m retired now. So I know good Chinese food. I been to this restaurant many times, but this time it was terrible. As all Chinese know Peking Duck is suppose to be your appetizer(first dish) at $ 36 twice cook. The came out dish # 7 follow by dish #8 Crispy chicken. Which was inexcusable. The other 6 dishes came out really slow and small. by the time the next dish came our food got cold. Worst was the foods was tastiness. Two of the dish came out so much mix veggie that you can’t find the fish and seafood. The Duck was not truly Peking style it was Roast Duck deep fry, over cook,. the skin was not crispy, meat was dry. and happen to two different way it suppose to be cook As a Chinese everyone know the restaurant never bring at two poultry one after other. Thank god dinner was over and just my family w/o any giest. Now for the worst parts. At 8:15 the restaurant low the heat. I had to wear our jackets. Then I went to Men’s room after usage .I applied soak on my hands then trun on the water, There was no water running, I was confuse tr 3 times. Still no water. When to spoke to the owner. We have no water to wash hand all day but the Women rest did So we had to wait. So how the hell did the waiters wash their hands!!! After dinner my wife told me there was roaches in the dinning area. Never again will go back to this rat hoe place. Go at your only risk. The waiters was nice .and friendly. The moon

Tjis restaurant came highly recommended so we went. We tried 3 dishes: The fried lamb chops with peppers and onions(not on the menue), the special fried rice on the picture menu, and the garlic pea shoots veggie dish. They were fantastic. The lamb chops were the most tender I have ever eaten. Great flavor and not at all gamey. The special fried rice with raisins, egg, dried shrimp, etc was unique and delicious. Even my son, who was sick and had a loss of appetite, loved it. There were plenty of people at the restaurant so I am sure the 2 stars on Unilocal could have been a fluke.

It’s a relatively new Chinese banquet restaurant. It’s kind of small and can probably host up to 11 tables max on their 2nd floor, which is the banquet floor. I hosted 5 tables. There is a private parking lot in the side, however it really is for the employees, and can park 3 or so cars. If you wish to park in that lot, you have to previously get the permission from the owner, and probably have to host a banquet. I was able to park my car back there since I did ask in advance. The décor is rather the best you can have in such a small space. A dragon and phoenix motif in the smaller back end of the 2nd floor by the bathrooms, and the wall to wall windows on the larger side. The bathrooms are not that inspiring. Think downtown Flushing or Chinatown bathrooms and you’ll get the idea. There isn’t a baby changing station that I could find, so I’m not too sure if this place passes inspection. The food was not all too good, but it is rather thrifty as far as banquet food prices go, so you can’t really expect too much. Still, there is room for negotiation when it comes to the pre-fixed menus, so better bring your, «A game,» when trying to talk your bang for your buck. I ordered the food Cantonese style, which this place was suppose to be geared toward, and if you’re going for quality or to impress, best pass this place up. The service by the wait staff is slightly above normal, where they insisted on helping carry my banquet gifts for me to the car. The down side of the service comes from the cook staff, where they brought the dishes all out of order. The noodles that usually come with the fried rice at the end came at the half way point, which was right after the soup. I’m guessing this was due to the 1st floor kitchen wanting to get the dish out before the 2nd floor kitchen was up to that point. Either way, way service. Another point came from bringing my own alcohol, the wait staff refused to open any of the bottles since we did not buy from them, so I as the host went to every one of my guests to open the bottles so as to ensure the sole bottle opener got passed around and not disappearing. Yes, you can purchase your boos there, but they wanted $ 6 per bottle of beer. Thanks, I can bring my own. So over all, I give this place a 2-star, «Meh, I’ve experienced better,» rating for easily being sub-par to the area competition.
