It’s a typical chinese bakery with a slightly better quality than those non-chain ones, It serves pretty much everything from buns, tarts, desserts, coffee/tea, birthday cake and varieties of different cakes. Their coffee is not as diluted like other asian bakery, pastries are alright though there’s still room for improvement, you have to try the egg custard and chicken pie, it’s delicious. they also sell steam buns, but i personally think they’re horrible compare the the dim sum places. Service, just like any asian places in chinatown, you get rush in and out, sorry need to get the line moving here!

Fay Da is my favorite chinese bakery. I really miss their char siu puffs… so flakey and melt in your mouth. The curry puff is the best I’ve had from a chinese bakery, too. For these I’d give them 4.5 stars. Other stuff is ok. Go there and get puffs!

My favorite place to go for pastries. I love all of the locations(they stock the same pastries). Its the best place for pork buns(lots of pork, no onions like some places, and not too sweet). They also have great egg custards and white bread(they also have a wheat bread, but its not as good). If you want a birthday cake, try ordering their mango edged cake — they slice thin pieces of fresh mango and cover the side of the cake with mangoes. Its aesthetically beautiful and really tasty.

Well, just personal thinking, this place is just a so so bakery for me. The snack which I always purchase from here is the coconut bo luo bun. The coconut custard taste good, however, if u really compare the bo luo bun with the other bakery stores, the bread in Fei Da seems nothing special.

Coconut Custard, Lemon, Taro, and so many other buns at $.80 a pop and all pretty tasty. Plus, after doing all your grocery shopping at Hong Kong Supermarket, it’s right outside so you can pick up some dessert to take home. The selection may be smaller than Tai Pan, but you also don’t have to elbow some dude’s granny to get at them. As metioned in Jando’s review, sometimes it does look like stuff has been sitting out, but I’ve always been able to find something I want fresh and tasty.

I was not impressed by this place! I went in with my mom to get a Taro Bubble Tea. My mom had ordered 2 of these, one for myself and one for my lil bro; she also ordered a small coffee and a triangle chocolate cake. We got everything except MYTAROBUBBLETEA! The only reason why we were in there! These girls were rude, when we had walked in and my mom was in the middle of ordering, the girl that was standing there, just turned away and started saying«ah yah». HRMPPHHHH — NOTGOODBYANYMEANSINMYBOOK!!! Who walks away when someone’s talking to you?! Rude much? Then when the other girl ended up taking my mothers order, my mom had ordered the 2 drinks, coffee, and cake. My mom had to leave to go to the store next door, so I stayed while these were being made. While standing there, they brought back 1 taro bubble tea. Still standing there, waiting for the 2nd drink. I told the ladies that I’m going to need to double cup this one that’s in my hands. My brother is 6 and will more than likely pop off the cover if the squeezes it. It had one of those dome tops and the cups were so thin, I know I’ve done it a few times before with my shakes at the gym. The lady didn’t understand me. I speak English and only English. Then when she finally did understand that I needed another cup, she wanted to charge me for it! I told her no, I’m not paying for a cup, I just need one so that the lid won’t pop off and make a mess everywhere. They took the cup away from me and did something, but then brought it back with the dome cup and still… had liquid overflowing. What did she not understand?! Put it in a bigger cup if you have to. Put the rest of the liquid in another cup. Do something so my brother doesn’t spill it everywhere! Jesus! Then on top of that, I had the argument of how many cups were ordered. I told her my mom had ordered 2. She says we payed for 1. Is it my fault you have a hearing problem and didn’t understand that my mother had ordered 2! Go make a 2nd one! What’s the problem?! So, I called my mom, who came back in, and told her that she had ordered 2. Then the woman was all apologetic, in Chinese of course. Hrmph! In America, you should learn how to speak English. I don’t care who you are. If you’re here, English is the language. You can still speak our own, but learn the damn language! She then made the tea, and of course I now had to pay for the drink. Which I don’t mind, but it was her mistake for not hearing us right! Never again, will I go back to this place. If I’m ever back in town, it’s Main St. for me.

Out of the two Fay Da locations, this is one where you’ll find less of a crowd, bigger place to sit and eat, all with the same price. The only catch is the food is not as frequently changed out, making them less likely to be fresh at various times of the day. During my experience here, I noticed the staff was largely Mandarin speaking over the dominantly Cantonese spoken Manhattan location. Overall, they were still very courteous and this location still keeps Fay Da very high on my list of Chinese bakeries.

Bakery. Probably the second most popular Chinese bakery in NYC. Their breads are also good, but their selection is not as big as Tai Pan’s. If you want an alternative to the much busier Tai Pan Bakery, come here.
