Since my last review for this place, I’ve gone back a handful of times. I don’t know what happened… the quality of the food feels like it is getting progressively worse with each visit. Today I order their shuijiao(boiled dumplings) and the shape of the dumplings were all folded oddly and the skins were soggy and thick… the inside meats were not flavorful at all. Another time before today, I had the pan fried dumplings and they were also very much on the so so side as well. It’s time to find another place for dumplings in Flushing.

This is supposedly where the fried dumpling people moved to when their allen st — lower east side shop closed. But it seems they’ve moved on again. A fried dumpling shop has re-opened in their old location but not by them. This shop seems to be run by new people as well. The new people are a bunch of kids who don’t seem to have ever been in a kitchen before. The dumplings are thick skinned, meat/veg balance is just wrong and tasted as if cooked in old oil. Noodles were overcooked and falling apart in an MSG laden broth. Where have the original shop people moved on to? retired? Where are the wonderful 5 for $ 1 dumplings?

5 dumplings for $ 1. This place is an amazing deal. The dumplings are pretty darn good, and you cannot beat the price. A perfect place to stop off at to or from the 7 train. Pretty much a mirror image of the fried dumpling shop on Mosco Street in Manhattan, which makes sense since I believe the two places are affiliated.

Move over Zhu Ji, this is the new kid on the block that’s a cleaner and better tasting version. I used to live a hop skip and jump away from this place so I’ve seen it’s various incarnations — from Korean delis to Americanized«sandwich» places owned by a nice little Korean couple to various Chinese food«restaurants». It is bright and seemingly clean. There is seating as well as a/c which seems to be a lot to ask for when you are eating at hole-in-the-wall restaurants in Flushing. They speak conversational English but you can always point. The menu consists of about 10 – 12 items, all translated into English. I absolutely LOVE their fried dumplings and 5 for $ 1 is a bargain! I’ve also tried their fried buns but they contain mushroom which is like my kryptonite :( YUMMM(dumplings, not buns).

Never visited their former location in Chinatown. Saw their ad a while ago and then checked out the reviews on Unilocal, thought I’d get some snack for the night. Not sure whether it’s the location or the time of the day(7pm on a weekday night), they barely had any customer. I ordered my favorites, pan-fried dumpling and sesame pancakes. Dumplings seemed average, pancakes were defintiely leftovers, very rough dough, and had onions on surface. Maybe I’ll go back to try the other dishes, but for dumpling and pancake fares, I’ll stick with Vanessas.

$ 1 for fried dumplings. $ 2 for boiled dumplings(more time to make) $ 1.25 for wonton soup I think the most expensive item on the menu is $ 3. This place is great, particularly given the quality and quantity of food provided for the price. I’ve been here twice. So far tried, Wonton soup — very flavorful broth with more than average fixings. I was a little surprised to see some mini shrimps with tiny beady black eyes peering back at me as I slurped my soup. Boiled dumplings in soup — very flavorful broth. I’ll def come for this dish on a cold winter day. Boiled dumplings — tasty pork, well made. Sesame pancake — very bready, I think it was just so so. Was good when we dipped it in the broth. I recommend the boiled dumplings or the fried dumplings(seems like a lot of people come in and order these) You can order a FEAST at this place for under $ 5. In terms of Flushings, NY Chinatown standards, this place also seemed cleaner than some of the other small shops I’ve seen. The staff is friendly as well.

WHAAAAAAAAT! That’s what I said when I looked at the menu and saw $ 1 for five fried dumplings. Are you kidding me? My friend and I asked the lady at the cash register to confirm what was tantamount to the polar opposite of a highway robbery. Imagine a couple of shady-looking characters jumping out at you of nowhere in the middle of the night, pointing a gun at you and forcing you to take their wallets, then running away and disappearing. That’s kind of what being at Fried Dumpling Shan Dong felt like. My friend and I decided to order a total of 20 fried dumplings between the two of us for the price of $ 4. About five seconds after we ordered, we were told our dumplings were ready. At this point I said… WHAAAAAAAAT! Ok it turned out they continually fry these dumplings all the time. They were already frying new ones after they gave us our dumplings. It wasn’t the best fried dumplings I’ve ever tasted, but it sure as hell was the best $ 1 fried dumplings I’ve ever had!

*************************JAWDROPPING****************************** They moved from Chinatown Manhattan to Chinatown Flushing! This was one of the Famous«DUMPLING» places that is affordable $ 1.00 for five pieces(Fried or steamed) before Vanessa’s and Prosperity Dumplings, The skin is pretty thin and the meat is pretty tasty along with scallion and veggies. They pan fried on one side, steamed on the other 2 sides so when you bit it, it’s not crispy all around. Once you make your first bite, a bit of juice will come out so better have a napking holding that juicy hot taste of it.
They were soo famous that Citysearch, NY Magazine(Cheap Eats). and other Newspaper had interviewed and had an article about them. I am soo happy that I have found you! 1 Block away from Main Street Flushing Train Stop. Small store, but same staff and same price for dumplings. Also they have a selection of pancakes, pork bun, soups and you can get a variety for under $ 5.00 !. I can guarantee you this place is better than other Dumpling places! If you’re in Flushing, Definitely stop by to get a $ 1.00 worth of 5 dumplings, or you can get a whole bag of 30 pieces of frozen dumplings for $ 5.00 and make it home.

The signs and reviews inside the store say that this is the dumpling shop that used to be across the street from Congee Village in Chinatown. It’s hard to go wrong with 5 for $ 1 dumplings. The dumplings here are flavorful, though not as tasty and juicy as the ones at White Bear. But by taste-to-price ratio, I would say they are equivalent. This is a good place to get a quick, tasty, and cheap meal.

These guys are a transplant from Chinatown, and although they have lost the old place, they sure haven’t lost their touch — they still make mean dumplings. In fact, all of their selection is very good(especially at cheap prices), the food at Fried Dumpling Shan Dong is reflected in the name, simple and honest. Can’t go wrong, so dig in.

This place is only a month or so old but hopefully it sticks around. It is almost a hole in the wall restaurant-they have like 3 tables and a counter for sitting. But I love the minimal! Their menu is small but enough-they offer a variety of soups-small and large, a variety of dumplings and some other small snacks such as cold noodles and egg rolls. Even though the seating is clean and whatnot-it’s not a great place for ambiance. You get a clear view of Union Street – but its not much to look at and the place is directly next to the Fire station so lots of occasional noise. I ordered for take out and got wonton soup and a vegetable roll. The wonton soup was delicious, warm and full of various things. Most wonton soups are oily and bland and just liquid that the wonton sits in-but this is different! This soup was a meal in itself and not just the wonton. The egg roll was a bit greasy but all egg rolls are fried – so I guess that can’t be helped. It was however a good veggie egg roll-packed with flavor and different veggies-not the usual bland, unseasoned or way too salty kind. An added plus my dinner cost $ 3.00!!! :) Gotta love flushing!

This place is pretty good. I noticed that it had just opened up and wondered how it would be. Their dumplings fried of course are great! So are their pork buns. They have a sesame pancake, which is huge, and a folded pancake which is like the sesame pancake but with meat inside. Pretty filling. They also sell the frozen types so you can fry up at home. Food’s good, its clean and tasty! And yes its near the 7 train, not too far away and its near the fire house, so yes you will see the fire trucks go buy.
