Worst restaurant I’ve ever had in NY. The service here was slow and sucks. Food was expensive. And I had been waiting for my food for 45 min! Waste time and money!

Pretty disappointed that they don’t actually serve dim sum all day, however we got a couple orders of soup dumplings and they were very good. Service was decent and the place has a bit fancier décor.

Food is okay. TERRIBLESERVICE, I have to constantly ask for a fork or a spoon or more water or napkins. The waiters never check in on you. When I got the check they requested that I tipped more… who does that? Maybe if you paid attention to your customers I would tip you better.

Don’t let the name fool you. I thought they served dim sum here so I came here one day with the husband while shopping. But their dim sum was like 10 items which was disappointing. once I got over the disappointment and order some food, its actually not that bad. Like some say, the service is lacking but really which chinese restaurant isn’t? The food was okay, will i make a special trek to come here, probably not. but its convenient if i am in the mall. We had shrimp dumpling, shu mai, beef chow fun, and pork dumpling. All of the food was just average but not too bad. Price was pretty reasonable even the beef chow fun priced at $ 11.95 was pretty big portion. All in all, I would probably come back but only if i am hungry and in the mall.

I’ll keep this brief. I’m leaving an updated review(from 2 to 4 stars) for Grandma’s Dim Sum because my experience has since improved. I said I wouldn’t come back here again after my first time, but mom kept insisting because her friend said the food was much better. Did they get a new chef? Either way, I come back every time we’re shopping at Sky View and get too lazy to leave the mall for food. Notable dishes: the beef with mushrooms in XO sauce, and black pepper lamb chops. The meat is seasoned wonderfully, and oh, so tender and juicy! I also reordered the beef chow fun(wet style), and it wasn’t oily like last time, and chock full of meat and veggies. I’m glad we gave this place a second chance. Sometimes mama does know best. Only drawback is that the prices are kind of high for what it is. They also need to add individual portions of rice and noodle dishes, for people who don’t want to eat family-style and those dining solo.

Don’t understand why there is so much negative reviews for this place. First time visiting this place and it was a pleasant experience for me. Although they’re dimsum menu are limited they have many other district dishes such as Wenzhou noodles and Sichuan dishes. The proportion was large and filling. Service was great and most of all free wifi despite the fact We all know how terrible the wifi is at sky view center. Overall, we left as happy costumers, the food was filling and price was reasonable.

I would give 2.5. Very limited dim sum menu. Chicken feet-below average. Too much sweet sauce. Tender chicken feet and kabocha. Fried mini bun-below average. Not too oily buns. Extremely sweet and sickening sauce. Grandma’s soup dumplings-average. Juicy and tasty, but not outstanding. Thick dumpling skin. Crab meat soup dumplings-below average. The taste of crab meat is hardly discernible. Almost the same as Grandma’s soup dumplings except for the red dot on the top which should have been crab roes. Pan fried string beans-below average. Fresh string beans. The pickled mustard just ruins the dish. Very salty. Beef chow fun-average. Tender and flavorful beef. Hardly-cooked bean sprouts. A little oily. Rice congee with sliced pork and preserved egg-very bad. Tasteless preserved egg. Disgusting taste of pork. Salt and pepper pork ribs-very good. Tender and juicy pork ribs. Crispy fried garlic goes very well with the pork. Stir fried beef with pineapples-below average. Red and green peppers, canned pineapples and onions in sweet and sour sauce. Tender yet a little burnt beef.

The reviews I think are overly harsh. I never had a problem with service. Also I think every Chinese restaurant in Flushing has bad service… its accepted(but perhaps I’m wrong?). In regards to the food I think it’s one of the better Cantonese restaurants. The vegetables are often crunchier and fresher than other big restaurants I’ve been to. The eggplant, string beans and the lamb chops are my go-to favorites. The lamb chops are also thicker cut than other places for the hungry. Private party room in the back. Free 3-hr parking and wifi but you should really put the phone away at the table.

The food here wasn’t pleasant. The soup dumplings were all popped and the soup all came out of the skin. I wouldn’t come here again. I would rather go order a sub from subways next door. Overall rating: Food: 2⁄10 Décor: 6⁄10 Pricing:7/10 Service: 3⁄10 2 stars for having free wifi since I didn’t have any service down in the basement.

Americanized chinese food in a shopping mall. It was nice and clean looking and had the décor of like a smaller Chinese cheescake factory. The space isn’t super nice but it looks clean and good. The eggplant had lots of ketchup in it which was strange. I prefer no ketchup so that wasn’t good. The beef chow fun was very standard. The chicken and brocolli was like something from a takeout place. The thin slices of white chicken. The food was like a classier jazzed up version of chinese take out you can get anywhere in America. Pretty bad.

We went there because we were shopping and we were lazy to go outside, we should have made the effort because the food was disappointing. The place itself was very modern and nicely decorated. pork and crab meat soup dumplings– It was disgusting. The broth was extremely sweet, like MSG sweet. Then we could see the fat pieces on the dumpling, like it was not cooked off. chicken and chive dumplings– OK, the outside was overcooked and mushy that it was falling off. We went around 3, so it was probably left over and sitting. fish ball with coconut curry gravy– no flavor. It seems like the fish balls were just defrosted and dumped into the sauce. chicken and pork dumpling and noodle soup– This was the best dish, thank goodness otherwise I would have still been hungry. The noodles were perfectly cooked, freshly mad and it had this nice chewy texture. The dumplings were also very good and tasted freshly made. The broth was also very light and also tasted freshly made. Everything just went well together.

This place call themselves Chinese dim sum, however they have less than 10 dishes that you can pick from including the Amazingly horribly made little juicy bun, thick skin, tasteless little juicy bun. Please save your money to somewhere else.

if you’re hungry and out shopping in the SkyMall, then Grandma’s is reliable Chinese food but not spectacular. I wouldn’t make a trip specifically for it though. the menu overall looked pretty typical, and so I felt a bit letdown that we had gone to Flushing and ended up eating Americanized Chinese food that I could’ve gotten anywhere. I know Flushing places love to capitalize on us non-Asians, but c’mon… so far as the quality of the food itself — my beef and pepper dish was decent and the portion size was huge. the free wifi is nice because phone reception in the SkyMall is terrible.

Silly me for reading the Unilocal reviews after I had lunch. My party and I were hungry and desperate after fighting our way through the Nike Clearance Store at SkyView Center. First how does this place stay in business. The service is terrible and the quality of the food is god damn TERRIBLE! I think Grandma should retire. Who ever calls this place decent is out of their mind. Plates ordered: House Special Fried Rice — Flavorless Mixed vegetables with Chicken Fried Rice — Refused to try. Shrimp and Pork Dumplings — As soon as you tried to pick it up and fell apart. Not tasty at all. Chicken Shumai — looked like a rubber display image — refused to taste. Family said it was okay. Vegetables Rolls — Wasn’t oily, piping hot and flavorless! I would like to point out some things: 1. You will be rushed to get the hell out of the restaurant as soon as possible. No wonder the food comes out to quick and nasty. 2. All waiters and waitresses will come around every minute to remove plates from your table and if there is about 10% of food on it they will ask to remove it. 3. If you ask for water or soy sauce they will look at you with such a confused expression on their face. 3. When they give you the check they stand there for your payment. If you are paying by credit card like I did be prepared for them to stand in front of your face while you sign. 4. Do yourself a favor and do not eat here!

Took a trip into flushing with my parents to run some errands and eat a quick lunch. We were headed to another restaurant until my dad suggested we try Grandma’s Dim Sum instead. Being the Unilocaler I am, I immediately looked up the place and was appalled by the two star rating it has. Maybe I should’ve told my parents, but I didn’t want to be the party pooper. The wait was not as long as I thought it would be and we were seated after ten minutes. They don’t even bother with friendly service so don’t expect that. Everyone is just trying to do everything as fast as they can, with the least amount of facial expressions as possible. We ordered the soup dumplings, the grandma’s fried rice, some sweet and sour pork w/taro and two dimsum dishes. Like most people mentioned, the dimsum is very limited. Nothing you can’t get from most restaurants. The soup dumplings had very thick skin and you can immediately tell from the little«knot» on the top. The Grandma’s fried rice comes in a bamboo bucket. The rice is very dry, and there’s a whole lot of super pink ham/spam, some corn and a few pieces of fried dough. Definitely not worth the money. The sweet and sour pork had good flavor, but the ratio of pork to taro was maybe 1:10. The pork pieces were almost all bone or fat with little to no meat. However, I do like the taro. They were crispy and surprisingly addicting in the sweet and sour sauce. But I didn’t order this dish to get a full plate of taro and no edible meat. I won’t be returning to this establishment as I think it is way overpriced for the quality of food it offers.

Like all others they are right to give it one star. The service is bad. I ordered a dish house special delight and the waiter told me that dish wasn’t for me(wtf). He told me I wouldn’t like it. I ordered it anyway(not bad I enjoyed it, I wish they would of put more seafood in it) the shrimp and scallop dumplings wasn’t that great a big disappointment. To top it all the dish I got my food in was broken in two places corner completely broken off. Good luck if eat here.

Finally a decent restaurant inside Skyview Mall! I have NO idea why this place only has 2 stars because it was actually pretty good. …And then I read the reviews and wow! People are REALLY picky. 1 – 2 star reviews because the name is misleading? Who cares. Read the menu and you’ll quickly see that they don’t serve your typical«dim sum». Go to Jade Asian or Gala for that. This is Hong Kong style where you get your wonton noodles and congee. Bad service? Everyone who took our order and served our food were nice! The lady who took our order spoke to us in Canto and laughed with us about how we wanted to order everything from the menu. I can’t speak for the big main dishes that were in a separate menu, which looked like a dinner menu to me. But we ordered off the menu that was one page and had all the dumplings and wontons on it. We got pork and fish shu mai, dumplings, wontons, curry fish balls, and GRANDMA’S CONGEE(GETTHIS) plus an order of fried dough(they give you a lot!) Portions were generous and grandma’s congee had crab(with that orange roe, yesssss) and clams in it – SOGOOD! Finally, a Chinese restaurant in Flushing that doesn’t only speak Mando(they do speak Mandarin as well)! Notes: — Credit card minimum: $ 25 — Free wifi! — I didn’t notice a menu for beverages but we were good with tea anyway

The restaurant’s name«Grandma’s Dim Sum» is misleading because I haven’t seen dim sum served here. The diversity and quality of Chinese provincial cuisines at Grandma’s sets it apart from the many other Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. The dishes served here are certainly not limited to Cantonese cuisine. For example, the Peking duck, $ 25 for half and $ 38 for whole duck, is a roasted duck, which they bring out to you on a large plate and sliced it in front of you. My favorite entrée is the Eggplant, supposedly a Szechuan dish, is a little spicy and aromatic. Dongpo Pork, a Hangzhou dish, is basically a block of pork belly — a layer of fat on top of the meat, marinated in brown sauce, and pan fried to be juicy and soft. This dish is tasty but it takes half an hour to make, so do plan to wait if you want to order this one. Ironically, the Cantonese/Hong Kong dishes are actually underwhelming. Sizzling beef with pepper and scallions is quite average, taste okay but too much oil, and beef is a bit fatty and overdone. Grandma’s fried rice in a bucket had a lot of ingredients, scallops, scallions, fried dough… but it was very unmemorable and I’d ask you to pass it. Salted fish and tofu casserole was solid and comfort food that’d go well with white rice. Appetizers, I’d recommend the yellow cucumbers(marinated in chili oil and soy sauce) and beef tendons. The restaurant is always fully or over staffed, but service can be confusing because you don’t have a designated waiter/waitress, whoever passes by your table or pays attention to your hand signal would serve you. Don’t feel pressured to take the waiter’s recommendations. There is often one waiter who is eager to suggest, but he’d suggest mediocre dishes. When in doubt, see the pictures in menus and look at tables around you.

Ok first off, the name is so misleading! I thought this place served dim sum all day! Got my hopes up and all but a girl can always dream right? Unfortunately they only serve dim sum during lunch hours when dim sum is normally served. Secondly, this place isn’t «cheap». Like it’s not the dirt cheap prices you normally expect at Flushing, but once again this place just opened up in a new space in Skyview Mall. It’s located on the basement floor next to a froyo place and the parking lot entrance. The décor is nice and trendy, and best of all, no sketchy B health grade sign posted up on the wall when you walk in. Yay for cleanliness! When we went to eat here at 6 pm, there was a line but luckily we only had to wait a few minutes. My boyfriend and I were only looking for a snack before eating dinner with friends, so we ordered the fried squid and the spring rolls. Another tip: do not fully trust the pictures they put on the menu! There was a picture of sashimi in the seafood section and they definitely don’t serve sushi there LOL. The picture of the spring rolls we ordered in the menu looked different than what we were served. It consisted of 70% shrimp and 30% other toppings. Great for those who want to get their money’s worth in their food haha. The crispy squid was fried in big chunks and doesn’t taste as oily and dry as in other Chinese restaurants. My boyfriend liked it so if he likes it, that definitely means it’s good(he’s such a picky eater ugh). I wish I was able to try more dishes but we were in a hurry to get going so we didn’t miss our other dinner reservation! A lot of the dishes the server brought out to other tables looked delicious and were presented beautifully. The service is alright, slow at times but the typical curt and straightforward manner you can expect at Chinese restaurants. Check this place out if you’re in Skyview Mall and don’t feel like spending $ 100 at Little Lamb or Applebee’s!
