I remember walking in here, looking at the prices, and thinking to myself, «Korean food is generally pricey but this is ridiculous!» I forgot what the dish was called since it was something the waitress recommended but it was absolutely delicious! What a pleasant surprise, it’s not often that I go in completely blind on a meal and I end up loving it. The glass noodles and all the seafood and vegetables was so good! We tried our best to finish all of it but alas we failed. The portion was huge! It could have fed 3 – 4 people so the price is justified. I have yet to try Sam Won Gak so that’ll be my next spot to hit up. But in the meantime, this place is great for the food and convenience(in the H mart mall) of plentiful parking spaces.

The mister was craving jja jang myun, so we ate here late one night. jja jang myun = you could get the instant kind from the refrigerated section at H-mart next door and get better quality and flavor. seriously the worst i’ve ever had. i almost wanted to buy jja jja roni to cheer myself up. jjam bbong = it was good, but nothing memorable. dead fruit fly in my water… good news is that the noodles in both dishes were super chewy! i have a feeling that this place is owned by Korean-Koreans, not Chinese-Koreans(Chinese ethnicity, Korean nationality). there really is a difference in product when Korean-Koreans make this kind of food. the real deal is when you walk in and the owners switch from speaking Chinese to «uh suh oh sae yo…» — where can I go in Flushing for THAT kind of jja jang myun??? :) bottom line: won’t go back

I’ve never heard of Korean-Chinese cuisine so I was naturally siked to try it out. My Korean friend explained to me the origin of the food and how good it is. We let her order some dishes including jja jang myun, tang soo yook, and noodle with gravy(not sure of the Korean name). Everything was tasteless. The noodle with gravy reminded me of a big bowl of fast food egg drop soup with seafood. The jja jang myun was the worst I’ve ever had. I was looking forward to the tang soo yook but it was a huge disappointment. Apparently its best to ask for it to be cooked extra crispy. Plus, I didn’t thoroughly go through the entire menu but the noodle portion of the menu is NOT English friendly. What in the world is «noodle with sauce»? The bill came out to $ 70 for 4 people including tip and tax. I know Korean food is generally expensive yet the meal was not worth a penny. I’m still open to this particular cuisine and maybe we ordered the wrong stuff but definitely will not be coming back.

It’s funny, I have to disagree with Annie and say this place is better than Sam Won Gak. Sure the latter is good and I think it’s more popular because it’s closer to the 7 subway station, though it’s still a trek. But you have to taste the jjang pong here and you’ll easily decide Jang Won Ru is better. Why? Because when you slurp that spicy broth into your mouth, it has a nice smokey flavor from the red hot chili peppers and the seafood. Oh, and don’t get me started. The seafood here is more plentiful than Sam Won Gak since it tastes fresher and cleaner. You can taste the freeze-burn in the octopus at the other place. And I discovered that this restaurant was initially located in Roosevelt Avenue where Phở 32 was located. They closed down but it turned out they opened this new location further in Flushing. Lastly, I also had the tang soo yuk and it was awesome. We asked that the meat be fried crisp and it’s the first time I ate everything. Usually after a while, the sweet and sour sauce that’s poured over the fried meat gets soggy but they fried it so well here, I really couldn’t stop eating. Service was okay but you betcha dollar I’m gonna come here more often.

This restaurant has the best Chinese-Korean food in the area. I try to eat here as often as I can when I am in New York. The noodle dishes are delicious and not watery like the other places. My favorite is the shrimp«kampunggee» which is battered shrimp in a sweet and spicy sauce. The mapo tofu, beef«tangsoyok» and the other specials are good too. The atmosphere is casual and nothing fancy but it has local flavor which is nice. The prices are super reasonable.

I usually opt for other Chinese-Korean restaurants but I do settle for this place once in a while. Serviceability and flavor-wise, Sam Won Gak is better by a mile.

In South Korea, when people graduated from schools, their parents brought them to a Korean-Chinese restaurant. It was a kind of a tradition and a sad story. Since the food is not regular but expensive(in 1980’s I guess), it was a special food for special occasion. :( Now it’s not like before. The food is as cheap as any regular food. However, I just wanted my parents to be happy, so I brought them to this Korean-Chinese restaurant to celebrate my graduation! :D What did I eat? Noodle with black source(the most regular dish), and ‘eight seafood and vegetable’ called ‘Palbochae’. It was my first time having Palbochae, and I loved it!!! I do love seafood and this was the one just for me! ;D Nice talk always follows nice meal too.
