Not a whole lot different than any other nice Greek place, it was recommended by one of the hotel clerks, and we enjoyed it.

What a disappointing dinner we had the other night! The place was full, Greek was being spoken, birthdays were being celebrated, but good food was not being served! I ordered the grilled shrimp and garlic potatoes. We waited a long time for the food and when the shrimp came, they were dried out and overcooked. They tasted like lighter fluid. There were no potatoes. I was told they were out and asked then, what did I want instead. I ordered French fries and they took a very long time to come. When they did, they were limp, undercooked and not good. No ketchup was offered. We were going to order dessert but decided not to since the other food wasn’t good and besides, the waiter ignored us for so long it was getting late. However, when he finally did show up, my husband decided to go for it and ordered baklava. That came slowly too and was full of walnut shells! We did get extra pieces of it and were not charged for the dessert but all in all, we were very disappointed. We paid too much for poor food and poor service. We will not be going back and don’t think you should go there either.

A decent place to have family style portion of grilled meats and seafood. The service is from the wait staff can be improved(takes longer than usual to get water, other needs and the bill).

The food is delicious but the service is horrible. I would normally take in to account that it was a holiday but it was obvious that treated certain people better than others.

Consistently pleased — and occasionally still pleasantly surprised at Mythos. Been coming for years since they serve the freshest, simplest fish in the area, just the way we like it. Favorites are halibut, salmon, smelts, octopus and grilled combination, but always stop first to glimpse the fresh fish on display. Waiters more than willing to offer suggestions — prepare things any way you like them. We usually go for dinner, but this week was in the area and stopped for lunch. That’s the pleasantly surprised part; nicely-varied, fairly-priced lunch menu(full regular menu offered as well) extremely abundant portions! I wish I had taken pictures. Perfectly grilled salmon aside tri-color salad and glistening lemon potatoes. Hot, crisp and tender fried calamari with rice pilaf and a mixed salad. Pita bread, small carafe of their house white wine… felt like a visit to our Greek grandma at the same price we had paid just days earlier for a bowl of mediocre soup and half a sandwich. Will absolutely remember the Mythos experience is available during the day. What a bargain!

Do NOT get the fried calamari«terrible«very dry and sooooo rubbery, it was like chewing on rubber bands. Drinks! don’t go there. I got a Johnny Walker black straight up and the dam thing was like water, stick to beer it’s safer. The fish was ok. A little burned but tasty. Pricy for this place. Lots better places in Astoria and less expensive… Not going back!!!

I have eaten at Mythos for many years. It is a no fuss Greek restaurant that serves authentic Greek dishes. The last few times I dined here the food was inconsistent, some times great other times just okay. Tonight the food was spot on. Started with the four dips with grilled pitas wedges — delicious. Then had the grilled octopus — also delicious and tender. For dinner I had the grilled baby lamb chops with lemon potatoes. My husband had the mixed grill with chicken, lamb chops, sausage and pork patties. The portion was huge, enough to share. The service was friendly and attentive. We didn’t order fish tonight though they offer a wide variety of fish that’s on display. Parking is no problem since they offer valet.

Their food is pretty good. Love the décor/ambiance. the parking is easy too; major +. They have live music on Thursdays, or used to? Haven’t been there in a while. I do however think they’re a bit pricey.

First time here and it was delicious! We tried some appetizers, which were okay. Nothing to write home about. What really gets the 4 stars here is the fish. I think we got the red snapper and it was fresh! They have a little seafood deli area, which makes me think seafood is the way to go here. Skip the other stuff and go to the seafood — you won’t be sorry.

Surprised to see that Mythos only has a 3 star general rating as it’s actually pretty good. I do feel the waiters can be snippy but not particularly. We’ve always eaten well here. Haven’t been in a while because there’s good Greek food to be found that’s somewhat cheaper.

Spacious, comfortable atmosphere. Valet parking available. Surprisingly popular on a Monday night. The host and hostess were extremely friendly, and took the time to introduce us to Greek cuisine. We started with a plate of warm pita with a sample of four spreads… all delicious(eggplant, yogurt, caviar, pepper cheese). The tomato Greek salad was refreshing. The calamari was soft and tender… Must’ve been cooked in really hot oil for a short time to get that texture. The main courses of lamb chops, pork chops, fillet of sole, and grilled jumbo shrimp were all juicy and flavorful. The only downside was that I think the host/waiters were overworked. Not enough staff on shift so as the place got more packed, service became less attentive. We actually wanted to eat dessert, but our host no longer had the time to tell us about it. Not knocking the place, don’t get me wrong. Will definitely come back for more!

We ordered the grilled octopus. I should have just ordered a slab of rubber. Normally, the waiter would cut octopus at the table, but I am sure he recognized it was tough and wouldn’t want to embarrass himself at the table. He was sly and cut the octopus by the fish display. One piece went flying and instead of letting it go, he placed the piece back on the plate after it bounced around a stack of menus. Very professional and sanitary. No thanks, won’t ever be back again.

Went back again and have decided its probably the last time. Food was delicious. Service is just awful. The waiters have an attitude and just don’t do anything to make the experience good. You have to ask them for every little thing, if you can find your waiter after he takes the order. Was particularly annoyed that when reviewing my side dish options for $ 25 lamb chops, I asked for broccoli rabe, since it was a special on the menu. He said«YES». No mention of the extra price. Then he returned to say they were out of it, @ 5:30PM on a Saturday. He asked if I would take spinach instead. I was then charged $ 10 for a side of Spinach that was supposed to come with my meal. Really disappointed as the food here is good. I will keep going to Avli on Bell Blvd.

There are to many other Greek places in this neighborhood I can’t imagine going here and eating in such a tacky place at these prices.

Came here the other night because I was really in the mood for fish. Service was average, nothing too special and nothing bad. Food was okay at best. I had the salmon — it was a nice portion but tasted a little odd. The chicken skewers were extremely plain and lacked flavor… and a piece or two were a little chewy However, the red snapper was good so no complaints there! I do not think I will be returning

Overall pretty happy with the way the dishes came out(although there was a longer lag between appetizers and main dishes). To start we had the sardines(very salty), assorted spreads with warm pita, and grilled squid(very tender and delicious!). For entrees I had the filet of lemon sole, BF had the Bifteki Skaras(seasoned very nicely and tasted even better the next day!). My side of lemon potatoes were delicious. Service was ok.

The grilled octopus will knock your socks off. They slice it for you at your table. It’s perfectly charred on the outside, unbelievable tender on the inside and just generally bursting with flavor. Truly excellent. It was the best I’ve ever had. I ordered the broiled filet of lemon sole which also surpassed my expectations. The portion was quite large, and when accompanied by the standard requisite Greek potatoes, I was stuffed. Sole tends to be a bit boring, a bit bland and a bit blah. However, I was pleasantly surprised by their citrus-y broiled version. I’d order this again and again. My boyfriend opted for the moussaka. Again, the best I’ve ever had. It was savory and creamy and rich and delicious … all the things you expect from moussaka, just taken to another level. Be forewarned: after you eat this, you will be useless for the rest of the night. You will want to hibernate like a bear and fall into a deep sleep. But, it will have been worth it. The only off-putting thing about the restaurant is the service. It’s been mentioned that if you aren’t Greek, or at least resemble someone Greek then you’re treated like a second class patron. I’ve observed this first hand. While they aren’t rude, they just don’t check on you as often or go that extra mile to provide quality service. I really don’t give a damn. They brought me my food, I enjoyed it thoroughly, we paid and we left. As long as they keep serving up five star seafood, I couldn’t care less. But, it would be nice if they viewed everybody who came to dine there as Greek, at least for one meal.
