Our go to place for Jiajangmyun(I get the #1) and tangsoo chicken(sweet and sour chicken). Reasonably priced and no hassle, good for groups. Their seafood noodle soup(spicy version) is a huge portion with a lot of mixed seafood and veggies. Since my 5 yr old often joins us, we order the non-spicy seafood noodle soup for him(#7 – make sure you relay«not spicy» clearly because the English descriptions on the menu sound very similar) he loves the noodles and broth. The tangsoo chicken is crispy with a nice batter that is not greasy. You can request that the sauce be on the side. Service is usually quick and staff are generally nice.

The food was delicious! We ordered our old time favorites. jjampong and jajjangmyun. The portion was large and very tasty. Their menu offers a large variety of dishes, however nothing unique. Service was quick and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. The restaurant itself is clean and comfortable.

Growing up this was the spot that my family would come to for family gatherings. A lot has changed since then and not all for the better. They updated the décor significantly and made it look at lot more modern. At the same time the theme doesn’t particularly tailor towards a particular theme. This place has never had good jjajangmyun but their jjambbong and kanpoong shrimp were always the bomb. I ordered the first and the latter yesterday and was extremely disappointed. The jjajangmyun was under salted and the noodles were overcooked. In addition, the shrimp had a not so fresh taste that permeated my palette. I didn’t even deign to finish my plate and left unsatisfied. I understand that there are independence movement festivities going on but allowing a whole troupe of drum and instrument players to walk around the restaurant while I’m trying to enjoy my meal? I was frustrated at how I couldn’t talk to my friend. The ambience was ruined and my meal experience was exacerbated by my inability to converse.

The taste was mediocre at best. Dishes come out cold and not enough seasoning. Corn soup was ok but too sweet for my taste. Fried dumplings were good, wouldn’t say best I’ve had. Crispy Duck was the best dish we took… Cooked well and tasty. Servers forgot to bring us the side of rice with our dishes and was difficult to get the attention of the waitress. With all the other places to eat around here, I doubt I’ll come here gain.

I’ve been coming to this place to eat ja jang myun since I was 5 year old, it brings back a lot of childhood memories and tastes the same every time. I’m sure every korean person can relate about this place. Prices vary widely with the dish, be wary. I ordered 1 ja jang myun, 1 japchae, 1 tantsuyuk(dishes my mom and I would always get) and it came out to $ 50 for 3 dishes.

This place has been open for as long as I can remember & a restaurant, which can withstand that test of time especially in queens when it is already surrounded by a number of competitions has to be good! Whenever I come, I always order the jajangmyun. It always tastes super fresh and the sauce is rich & does not skimp out on the extra ingredients that gives the sauce the umph. In addition, I always order jjamppong(but as I just got my wisdom tooth out recently, I couldn’t eat anything spicy) so my boyfriend and I opted for the beef & broccoli lunch special.(We got there with just a few minutes to spare– lunch special ends at 3PM; score)! Unfortunately, the beef & broccoli wasn’t that appetizing and tasted much better after we reheated it up at home as a midnight snack and added our own personal ingredients to it but I can’t deny that every dish made here is definitely made with the best of ingredients– which are super fresh. The whole restaurant itself has been recently redone so the interior is relatively new and spacious. The waitresses are also attentive. Give this place a try! I cannot say if this place is better than the Chinese restaurant right next to it as I haven’t been able to try the other place just yet but I will definitely get to it. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if SahmWonGahk outshines the restaurant next door.

We ordered the jjajangmyun and the jjajangmyun dried style, #1. And pork tangsooyook. The good –noodles were chewy –big portion –dried style jjajangmyun taste much better, more flavor. –tangsooyook has a slight crisp and chewy. The sauce has the right amount of sweetness and sourness. It was really tangy The bad -#1 jajangmyun tasted a bit bland

This is a fairly new Korean style Chinese food restaurant on Northern, closeby to Parson’s Blvd. It is just okay overall. The interior is great, newly renovated, clean and open. Lots of seating so great for groups. The food though was just ok, really not memorable. I had their more famous dishes: the jajamyunh, spicy seafood noodle, and fried shrimp with chili sauce. I liked the fried shrimp the best. The shrimp was so big! It was quite tasty and very filling as there is a lot of batter on the shrimp. Both noodle dishes were really big. It’s a great portion size for one individual, as it fills you up while sharing a bit with others. In terms of taste, they were pretty good, not bad. A little slow on the service, but then again I did come late at night. Pricing was moderate, decent for what you get.

Food was alright and the service was really slow. The food is the type that you can get at any korean restaurant in queens. The meat was good but the naengmyun was bland. We waited forever and we ordered dumpling and forgot to specify beef or vegetable. When we called over the waiter to specify he said oh it’s too late we already made it. The last time I checked the waiter is supposed to ask us to verify if there are different options and people send back food all the time. I was surprised to get no for an answer. Won’t be going back. Also, they use informal Korean to older customers which I think is rude.

Every so often, I need a fixing of spicy noodle soup. While the spicy seafood noodle(jjangppong) is not the best I’ve had, it does leave me satisfied! The texture on the noodles themselves, however, are not consistent. Sometimes perfect and sometimes under cooked. Sweet and sour fried beef is another favorite from here which is delicious and fairly consistent. Service is friendly and attentive.

Food is pretty good, I can’t say it’s the best, but its good enough for me to come back! Portion of food is quite large, I ate with four people and none of us completely finished. I would recommend the Noodle w/Special Black Bean Sauce!

My family and I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember– probably since I was in middle school. All for one simple reason: Sam Won Gak’s jjajangmyun and seafood jjampong are hands down the best in the area– and it’s been that way for years. So much flavor, huge portions, and perfectly cooked noodles. EVERY. TIME. These two, in addition to the beef tangsuyuk, are pretty much the only things we ever order. The tangsuyuk is a perfect combination of crispy and sweet, and is large enough for a family of 4 to share. Call me boring, but these three have never disappointed me!

Overall an okay restaurant. The Kkang poongi wasn’t that good — we didn’t even realize what it was until our tang soo yuk came out! The dishes were very similar and for anyone that knows their Korean dishes, you know that they’re very different! The tang soo yuk, jjang bong, and jja jang myun were all okay. The food came out pretty fast and there was always someone that we could ask for something.

It was ok. .really not the best place. Their jumbong was watery and did not have much flavor. Also tried their shrimp fried rice and that was bland as well. The only thing we really enjoyed from this place was the fried shrimp with chili sauce and the free kimchi. Jumbong took forever to come out too… over all I guess this place will do if you were craving for korean chinese food in the area, otherwise, avoid

I came here with someone right at closing time. The wait staff was kind enough to still serve us. We were seated at a table in the middle of restaurant and we were the only two people there. There is quite a bit of seating here, so this restaurant can accommodate a fair amount of people. We ordered as soon as we sat down. The menu consists of Korean-Chinese dishes. We shared the jja jang myun(noodles with black bean sauce) and the jjam pong(hot seafood soup with noodles). Both dishes were decent and were pretty much standard fare. The jjang myun wasn’t runny and jjam pong wasn’t too spicy. The service was relatively quick and the food came out fast. I don’t know how much of this has to do with the fact that we were there right before closing, but I was happy with the speed.

It’s a good place for Korean/Chinese food for large groups or on their quieter days. The location happened to be convenient for us, and so this is where we went. Jjajangmyun, there are better places for it, but it’s still good. We ordered their fried dumplings that were maybe twice the size of what an empanada would be? Also ok. Their main entrée dishes tho are pretty good, fried pork and such. I would recommend and would likely be going back just because, well, it’s a place thrown into our rotation especially with kiddies. What is impressive is that whether you are Korean, Chinese, Spanish — you’d likely never have a problem ordering in any language.

Came here with a couple of friends. We went pretty late in the day, so there wasn’t that many people there. We got seated right away. If you go to a korean restaurant, it’s a must to get jajangmyeon and that’s what I got. We also got the spicy seafood soup(?) and fried dumplings. They have a special jajangmyeon so I was curious what was the difference. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the difference, there is a difference! It tasted good. Not the best I’ve had, but good. I think the service is kinda low if you don’t speak korean. But I believe it’s like that in other restaurants that don’t speak the language. They just don’t pay attention that much to you I think, if you don’t speak korean. Overall, it’s a good place for lunch. And it’s close by to me, so if I ever want korean food, i would come here.

Is it so cold outside that you can feel future generations of your family shivering? Then drop by Sam Won Gak for some hearty, warming Korean/Chinese grub. Came here after being told that Mad for Chicken had a 50 minute wait. En route back to Flushing, my hunger got the best of me and I was impressed with the huge space and clear lighting of Sam Won Gak. After being welcomed warmly by the staff, me and my friend were seated quickly and given the menu. It’s pretty nicely sized. A decent variety of noodles, meats, rice, and seafood await you. After perusing Unilocal,I decided to try the #3, which was described as Noodles in a Very Hot Brown Sauce(or something like that). Please forgive me, I think it was the jiajiamyun… I’m horrible at spelling. The waitress warned me that it was extremely spicy, so I took her word for it and asked them to tone it down. It came out just right! Spicy and savory without being painful. Served with yummy daikon and kimchee, it was a warm, filling and satisfying meal. Your meal also comes with free orange slices and fortune cookies! I would say that Sam Won Gak is worth a trek from the Bronx.
