The Black Swan Spa

I was suffering a herniated disk in my lumbar spine, with radiating pain and numbness into my feet. A local friend turned me on to the Black Swan Spa and a particular Chinese physician who was working there who was not licensed to practice medicine here yet.
When I arrived, he examined me and said that through his massage I would be pain free in ten visits if I came every week. Hype? I wasn’t sure. The reality was that I was pain free in 8 visits. He delivered! I continued to go, but less frequently now, and he is still very helpful when I find some discomfort returning. This is certainly a better option than the surgery my orthopedic surgeon was recommending. True, the massage given is strong and sometimes painful as he digs into my thighs to relieve the «dark energy» being held there related to the injury; but it feels so good when he stops, and for several weeks thereafter.
I have purchased the 8 visit package several times which brings the hourly price to about $ 23 per. Can’t do better than that for a medical therapeutic massage. I have also had the foot massage there, and it is quite good. There are also hair cutting and styling going on there, but I have not utilized those services.
Bottom Line — Highly recommended.
About tips — The standard tip for an hour massage is normally $ 20. $ 25 — 30 for a 90 minute session. Foot massage is the same. It is true that some of the workers there get indignant when less is offered, which is very unprofessional, but when you work for minimum wage at a physical job, the tip is what allows for improved living.
Cash is preferred. Credit cards are accepted, but then you get hit with the sales tax.
Parking is always an issue in Flushing. They had a parking deal at one time, but that seems to be gone now.

Wesley. C’mon an $ 8.00 tip? That is not much to pay for an hour’s foot massage. It is a lot of work, for the individual giving the massage. I always tip a minimum of $ 20.00, because I perform massage and reflexology myself. It is a difficult, tiring, service oriented business. I have never had a bad experience here, and the price, in my opinion, is very reasonable. The place is kept meticulously clean, and everyone here is always pleasant and serious about their work.

I used to frequent this place for foot massages as it has a $ 140 for 8 sessions prepaid special. Due to the low price, I always tipped staff $ 10 to ensure they could make some money. I went there again on ⁶⁄₁₅ and paid regular price which was $ 28 an hour. I had 8 singles on me and left the $ 8 as tip thinking since it was regular price, $ 8 would not be too shabby for a $ 28 service.
Staff chased me out of the door, scolding me, cursing at me «our tip is minimum $ 10 per foot massage session…»
I gave him another $ 2 and will NEVER go back again.
I will tell all of my friends NOT to go there.
