Located inside the New World Mall where you have many, many choices of foods to choose from. I chose this one. This time it was the wrong choice. I was going to chose Noodle Village but I guess either the name or something else threw me off initially. I’m sure it would have been a better choice anyhow. Yun Nan prides itself with an A on their health code but that is all about all that is raving about this place. I ordered 2 different kinds of noodles and I got 2 different kind of opinions on both. Spicy Beef Noodle Soup — To put it quite frank there was no flavor whatsoever. Yes it was spicy and the girl at the cashier even asked how spicy I wanted it which was good but there has to be more than just heat factor in a noodled soup. The noodle was just plain as well and I didn’t even bother drinking the soup out of disappointment. To top it off the beef cubes were minimal maybe 4 or 5 at best. For $ 6.50 I expected more bang for the buck especially with all the shops down there. If not more beef then STEPUPYOURFLAVORGAME. Which would have been also acceptable. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup as well. This one did have a lot of meat in it. Definitely, more slices of chicken than there was beef in the other soup. However, the orange-y red soup neither provided the heat nor did it provides the flavoring needed to make this a good eat. Again at $ 6.50 I expected better. I couldn’t help thinking the whole time, maybe I should have went to the Old mall, you know the one EVERYONE went to before this new one propped up. Customer service was fine although the herpes like patch on the corner of her mouth was not. I’m not even sure what that was but being front and center I would at the very least use make-up to cover that up. It gives a sort of a contrast to the A on the health code. Just saying…

2.5 stars. Valery C’s review below is right on the money. I ordered a seafood platter for two which came with two orders of rice and soup. It comes it a metal bowl and it’s quite soupy unlike the other stands which it’s a dry stir fry in the wooden bowls. There is a $ 5 deposit and once you return the tin you get your money back. We asked for medium spicy and the flavor was alright but besides the shrimps in the seafood platter, it appears that the majority of the food was really just fillers for the dish. Yes $ 15.99 is cheap for two people but the majority was just fish balls and some shrimp(with shell and head on), fish cake and veggies. Luckily, my husband ordered a dish from the Taiwanese stand so we had another flavor to munch on while taking turns with this dish. Not horrible but not anything special.

This place is in New World Mall basement food court. They offer a variety of hot pots and noodle bowls. Folks in the food court had these wooden bowls with the food that looked interesting. We decided to try one. To my dismay, I did not get a wooden bowl. I get this tin foil tray. Okay I can live with the tin tray but the food was swimming in this salty liquid. Salt and pepper??? Soy sauce??? It was nothing to rave about. We had to get rid of a lot of the liquid so that the food was not over saturated with the salty flavor. If this was prepared nicer, the seafood hot pot with head on shrimps, not fresh squid, fish balls, some sort of veggie of the day, might have been okay. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I am going to try the other hot pot stand next time. :(

To date, this corner stall in the New World Mall basement food court, by the elevator banks, offers a menu of hot pots, noodle bowls, and beverages(coffee and drinks). We spotted a few nearby tables eating out of large wooden basins, convincing enough to catch our interest. In the entire food court, there seems to be three places offering large bowls of food very amenable to group dining; whereas Lao Ma Ma La Tong and Tianfu serve dry stir-fries(ma la xiang guo), Yun Nan serves a slightly soupy mixed ingredient hot pot, dished out in a shallow metal bowl set inside the wooden basin that caught our eye, $ 5 deposit to encourage diners to return it to them. We tried the seafood hot pot, medium spice. Ingredients: head-on and shell-on shrimp, squid, fish, fish balls, fish cakes, sliced beef, Shanghai bok choy, broccoli, and bean sprouts. Flavor was surprisingly mild, I don’t think I found it the least bit spicy. Passably good but not very memorable and hard to recommend.
