Alterations Express

AWFUL!! NEVER been treated so badly by a business that I have to post and warn you. Alterations Express on Blue Ravine in Folsom is awful! The owner just yelled at me and told me to sue her because I needed them to fix the dress they altered wrong. Was told the brand new dress had too much lining. Really? What? It didn’t before they worked on it. I was just there to try it on again and see what they could do until she got nasty. So I asked for my $ back and was told to take her court. Honestly, what is wrong with customer service today?!

This place ruined a very expensive shirt of mine that couldnt be replaced/​its no longer manufactured. I thought that going to a place which specializes in alterations would be the way to go, but I should have checked the negative reviews building up for this location because, boy have they gone downhill since I last came here 2 years ago! Anyway, my request should have been simple– my shirt was about a half-​size too big for me and I wanted them to alter it so it fit properly. It was Debbie who did the measurements, and when the shirt was finally ready (a week after it was originally promised) they had altered it by bringing it in way too much across the back. Although Debbie took the measurements, she somehow rationalized that it was my fault for letting her take it in at the armpits! Now to be clear– I had no say where they took in anything or what they did beside my simple request to make the shirt fit properly… so the alterations that were performed and where they performed it were left entirely up to the so called professionals. The armpits were never even discussed when she was doing her rush-​job fitting it to me.
A few side-​issues to include here as well: They have dogs running around all over the place (I counted 3), and they were jumping up on me without Debbie even attempting to control them, I was only allowed to pay in cash/​and required to pay before the job was even performed, and I had to make a special trip across town to a fabric store to purchase 2 buttons that I wanted sewn onto the collar (dont alterations places usually have buttons?).
So after it was evident they took it in way too much they at first claimed it was a very easy fix. I came back again the next week when she said it would be ready and they had performed some ridiculous adjustment on it where the seam was ripped open and literally connected by a knotted piece of thread/​free hanging like a rope! I could have done a better job on this shirt myself!
When I told her it was a botched job and showed her why it wasn’t going to work, proving that it no longer fits me at all because of what they did, she made me ask for my money back on the entire job. She was good at apologizing profusely but could have made the whole thing a bit easier by offering to give me my money back… but whatever. I probably should have also requested what I originally paid for the shirt 3 years ago as well, but I decided not to do that.
She was supposed to mail the refund to me via check but apparently even that was too much of a challenge for Debbie. After it was overdue by a week I called and she said someone threw away the piece of paper that had my address on it! 2 things I have to say about that: (1) Way to go NOT keeping my information private and secure, and (2) She could have just called me to get the address again/​and I KNOW I was in their system because I sat there and updated it with her. In her defense she did inform me that she’s not very good at writing checks but if it was going to be a problem she shouldn’t have agreed to that course of action (or could have asked someone for help). I think she had no intention of sending me a check but that is pure speculation. While on the topic of the refund, why did she refund my money anyway, if the alteration she did was «my fault»? After she offered to write a reminder to send me the check on her calendar, and get my address again, I reluctantly decided to go there AGAIN for the (total) 6^th time during the course of this unfortunate experience with Alterations Express to get my money back in cash. Apparently Debbie has as many challenges with «complicated check writing» as she does with performing alterations.

First thing I saw when I approach the door to this place is a dog gate. Inside there were three small dogs running around. Gross, unsanitary, dogs lay near or on clothing in piles. Unprofessional manner of the owner. Rude. Of course my item I left to be altered was not even touched when I got there the day I was told it would be ready. Don’t bother

If more stars were allowed, I’d give this business six. When I lost 20 pounds, Debbie altered many of my clothes with skill, even those requiring complicated tailoring. Since then, I always go to her, knowing she’ll give me the suggestions when needed and doing a splendid job. I never will go anywhere else.

Normally I wouldn’t review somewhere I’ve never been, but listening to the stories family & friends say about this place, it sounds like a nightmare. Especially about the young girl. That’s unacceptable.

Have had numerous items altered here over the years, of varying degrees of difficulty (From jean hems to tailored jackets to fur coat sleeves) Have received excellent and friendly service every single time. Alterations are always done quickly and are of the best quality. Thank you for being a place I can depend upon!

What she quoted and what she charged was entirely different. Very condescending, rude and kind of a bully. She has dogs roaming around inside the shop. Extremely rude!

Unless you like having your 13 yo daughter told she’s overweight and then refuse to hem her skirt for her, then to be cursed at when shop worker is confronted by her horrible behavior… I’d go ANYWHERE else than here to spend your hard earned money. Horrible people.

Avoid this place like the plague!
The job of an alterations person is to ALTER garments. Period.
* Not give weight advice.
* Not insult customers.
* Not refuse service because the seamstress doesn’t approve of a customer’s weight.
* Not traumatize a young person.
Apparently the owner of this establishment didn’t get the memo.
* She refused to hem the skirt of a 13-​year-​old girl.
* She told the girl she wouldn’t be able to eat lunch in the skirt.
* She told the girl to order the next size up.
* She told the girl’s grandmother: «She needs to lose at least 10 pounds to fit into that thing and I don’t see that happening. Especially with girls like her, they eat whatever they want.»
Pretty outrageous behavior.
When the girl’s mother went in to talk with her, the owner defended her statements and then insulted and swore at the mother. Very professional.
This woman doesn’t deserve anyone’s business.

Too pricey and apparently had a hard time sticking to their own time schedule. Then was extremely rude when I called them out on how late they were. Plenty of other alteration places in Folsom…

I wish I could give zero stars! You should be ashamed of yourselves for being such hurtful people! Shaming a beautiful young lady is simply not ok in any shape or form!

Don’t go they are the dregs of society. They refused to alter my friends daughters skirt saying, and I quote «she needs to lose at least 10 lbs to fit in that thing and I don’t see that happening «. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

The price I was quoted and agreed to up front was different than the price I ended up paying at pickup. I was assured by the owner that the work involved warranted the higher price, but if I knew that was the cost up front I wouldn’t have bothered.

I’ve gone here twice and both times were an excellent experience. Debby is very sweet and accommodating, I asked her to sew something for me and she went above and beyond what I had even requested so it was done correct — Highly recommend her for any of your sewing needs!

OMG … This place rocks… I was in a bind and Debbie, bless her heart, fixed my girls homecoming dress in my desperate time if need. She was so kind to us. I took it in Saturday morning, she had it fixed within a couple hrs so my girl could wear it that night. Highly recommend this place hands down.

They do excellent work and are very nice folks. My only issue is with their timing. I just had this happen to me for a second time, that my garment was not ready when promised. I get it that they are very busy, that’s obvious by the number of seamstress’s they have on staff. So promise accordingly ! I’d rather wait a little longer and have my garment delivered when promised then have to make a return trip back. If they make this slight improvement they would certainly be worthy of 5 stars.

The owner Debby and her son Eric are a find! I brought them a mail order off the shelf wedding dress that I purchased over a website in China sight unseen (they were kind enough to take my measurements before I ordered it), and they have turned an ordinary dress into something extraordinary for a fraction of what it would have cost me for something even close but not as nice! I am thrilled! Im getting the dress of my dreams! I am so excited about the work they have done and the suggestions they have made. Only wish I could post Before and after pictures.
My boyfriend has also had several suits and coats altered here — the work is impeccable.
I also took in some Costco swimsuits to see if they could be made to fit better and I am delighted with what I got back.
I would recommend this place to anyone wanting creative, quality work for a fair price!

I had a horrible experience here and don’t recommend this shop for any alterations. I brought 3 dresses here prior to my vacation. I was in a time crunch… hence, the reason for using Alterations «Express». The owner assured me that getting the dresses done in time wouldn’t be a problem, and I DID get them prior to leaving. However, the condition of all 3 dresses was terrible, and they all needed to be redone. Two of the 3 were so crooked around the bottom hem, that the length was off all the way around. The 3^rd dress was not taken in enough around the bodice, the bottom hem was also crooked, and the seamstress used white thread on colored material… a big no no. The owner offered to redo all three and I accepted, as I needed them for my trip and didn’t have time to take them anywhere else. After spending $ 60+ on these alterations, and picking them up the second time, I left completely frustrated and still had dresses with crooked hems and white thread. Don’t waste your time here.

Super friendly, great hours, and a great job altering my pants. Will return!

I’ve been coming to this tailor shop for years and they are the best! Excellent customer service and workmanship.
Recently I needed to be measured for a bridesmaid dress and I went in there expecting to pay but they did it free of charge. That type of relationship building is truly above and beyond.
