This place reminds me of how Chinese restaurants appear in movies, the décor, etc. The waiters and staff are always extremely polite and inviting, I’ve gone with the gf as well as a group and we’ve always had excellent meals there without a single complaint. Both the quality and the taste of the food is consistently above satisfactory, reasonable prices and a comfortable setting. I couldn’t pick a fave item, they know the meaning of fried rice, unlike some places like Panda Express which has it’s own interpretation of fried rice = white rice mixed with soy sauce. The fried prawns, sweet and sour, chow mein and cashew chicken we had last time were all delicious. Restroom, not great if your a bit claustrophobic, but not a deal breaker. It’s a nice place to stop for a bite if you’re in Old Folsom checking out shops and feel an urge for decent Chinese food.

I had one dinner, and it was okay. The last visit waited 30 minutes just to order, another 35minutes for preparation, and bringing it home to my 3 guest, and it wasn’t even appropriate to eat. The pork was bad, terrible smell, and upon tasting it I had to spit it out. Prawns in the stir fry had terrible fishy smell, at this point I packed it up, and called Hop Sings to inform them of the problem, the little man that runs the place wouldn’t allow me to explain, kept telling me he remembers me and the order, that they use fresh blah blah, I then tried to explain that the food was not good, but was interrupted again. The food good, ect. I took the box in the next day to return all of the food that was not fitting to eat by 4 people, again the little man dressed in his attire for a 5 star restaurant not, started arguing about the food, refused to accept the return, and credit me for the 67.59 bill, plus tip. He wouldnt let me get a word in, and I took the box of food walked out, muttered I will never be back. Bad Karma doing business in that manner. I should have taken the box and poured it on the dining room floor, but I have more etiquette than this little man in his fake suit has business sense. Terrible treatment, bad food.

I’ve been eating at this restaurant my whole life. When I was a kid this was the only Chinese restaurant in Folsom. It’s where my love of Chinese food began! The egg flower soup is delicious. Everything is delicious! And they prices are super cheap for the amount of great food you get.

I Love this place. Seriously some of the best service you will get in Folsom. They treat you like family here and that’s the way it has been for years. I’m not a huge fan of Chinese food but if I do eat it I like to go here. The décor is amazing and the food is always served fast and hot. Definitely a must if you like Chinese, and the location can’t be beat. If you are looking for a fairly priced lunch or dinner then you can’t beat the ambiance at this restaurant. Well worth it for the dine in experience. I will definitely be back.

3 stars at best. Tastes like Panda Express except more greasy. Nothing really stands out. Atmosphere is kinda dark, old-fashion Shanghai saloon like. One thing I didn’t like was that they put our forks and spoons directly on the table… that’s gross! And the fortune cookie was put on the plate where they would normally give people money/check. Ew! Rating is definitely inflated around here… Service is ok though.

Iconic Folsom Chinese restaurant. Was here a week ago and enjoyed some war wonton soup and appetizers. Staff very friendly and almost over attentive. Some dishes are very excellent and others only average. The egg rolls, war wonton soup, hot and sour soup, and pot stickers excellent. Plenty of free parking near restaurant. Lots of nice shops and a pub, and a game store nearby. This is a must book mark if you are in the area for decent Chinese. Still a little room for improvement but nice nonetheless. Reminds me of a Chinese restaurant right out of the 1950s. A great place to spend Christmas Eve dinner if you burn the Turkey :)

Summary: Decent. Healthier version of Americanized Chinese food. This is a review by a Chinese-American brought up on Authentic Chinese food(home cooked meals and high end Cantonese restaurants). I will tolerate Americanized Chinese food, but it better be fresh everything! *To-go order* –under $ 10 with huge portions. –Cashew Chicken: better quality meat, crunchy cashews, really fresh veggies(celery, peas, white onions, carrots). –Beef Chow Fun: Lots of meat and noodles. Luckily, not too much bean sprouts. –Pork Fried Rice: totally not greasy! hooray! little juicy BBQ pork cubes, veggies. The nice thing about this restaurant is that it isn’t greasy. Many upon many Cantonese restaurants completely grease up all their dishes, but not this place. I’m full and my tongue is happy(fresh veggies and no grease layer on my tongue). The chow fun noodles were great, my kids loved it. Full stomachs, with leftovers for tomorrow’s dinner. Perfect. :)

The staff here is amazingly nice, so that is what keeps us coming back, great customer service. The food portions are HUGE, and could feed a small army, which is great for the price. The pot stickers and the sauce are so good, my favorite in town. Not a big fan of the chow mien or most of the meat I have had here, but my fiancé loves it. Only other down fall is the crazy busy parking due to the location. Overall, this place is a solid choice for Chinese food in the area.

I’ve been coming here for the last 14 years(since I moved here from the Bay Area) & it’s still one of my favorite Chinese restaurants! I love the décor… Mostly cause it reminds me of the beginning scene of ‘Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom’, but I also love that a lot of the same staff still works there since I started eating there! I’ve had many different dishes they serve & have enjoyed them all! Just to name a few: their potstickers are great, I love their ribs, the salt & pepper shrimp is delicious, the Mongolian beef is one of the best I’ve ever had, they have amazing chow mein & steamed rice comes with your meal!!! The food is affordable & the portions are big! The only thing that sometimes can be an issue is that the restaurant isn’t that big & can get busy quick! Besides that… No complaints here!!!

Love this place. Just moved here about a year ago and they are my go-to Chinese food place. Always ordering Chicken Fried Rice and Wonton Soup. Super nice staff. Definitely a recommended stop for locals and visitors. I can also highly recommended the Fried Prawns with Sweet and Sour Sauce. The Broccoli and Beef is also super tasty.

Terrible service. Good food. We were a party of 5. We were sat, brought water, & then no one came to us for 15 – 20 minutes. We even asked at one point if someone could take our order– even though we hadn’t even placed a drink order yet either. We were due down the street for a performance so we got fed up with waiting and asked that what we ordered be arranged for take out. We were then given an attitude by a server who seemed confused as to why we were so upset that we were ignored for 15 – 20 minutes. They seemed to think we were waiting for more people to join our party? Even though we clearly said 5& we were only given 5 menus so it was obviously just an excuse as to why we were ignored. And then we were told to tell them the next time that we have somewhere to be. There won’t be a next time.

I’ve been going here since I was an infant, my moms always gone here, I will always go here, and my children will always go here. I haven’t had a single bad experience at Hop Sing Palace over the years and I swear by this restaurant. If you love great atmosphere, Chinese food to die for and great costumer service, I full heartedly recommend this restaurant to you.

Having lived in Folsom for 2 years, I figured it was about time to try Hop Sing Palace. I am not exactly sure how this place has a 4 star average — I have had better Chinese food at just about every crappy casino buffet in Las Vegas. Honestly, Panda Express is fine dining compared to this slop. Truth is, I wanted to like this place. The lunch prices are reasonable, and the staff is really nice. Unfortunately, our dining experience didn’t live up to expectations. For starters, we opted for the potstickers. The flavor of the potstickers was OK, but they were served in a puddle of water. I prefer my potstickers a little crispier so that they don’t have a soggy texture. For lunch, I chose the pork fried rice and green pepper chicken. The rice itself was dry, and there was barely any pork, eggs, or peas included. In fact, it was easily the worst version of fried rice I have tried. What pissed me off the most, is that I am not supposed to even be eating carbs –and I wasted it on this cheap a** garbage. The green pepper chicken might have been OK if there was any chicken included. I swear I may have had 4 pieces of overcooked, rubbery chicken to accompany my sloppily cut vegetables and shi**y rice. I love the location of this place, and the prices are affordable. However, I would rather pay more for quality food. This place sucks, and the only reason I am giving this place a 2nd star is because the staff is really nice and welcoming. I waited 2 years for this? We won’ t be coming back, unless the owner decides to put more effort into the quality, and presentation of the food. Seriously, have you tasted your own food? FYI. It’s not good!

CUTE place. I really enjoyed the ambiance here, from the circular entry way to the 70s décor with the rounded white leather booths down to the pink napkins and dark wall decorations and dim lighting. I like to imagine what it could’ve been like 30 years ago, hazy with smoke and sultry look women accompanying dapper looking gentlemen. Service was nice. The cheese wontons and fried spring rolls were good. I liked that they spring rolls weren’t the usual smooth wonton wrappers. I also appreciated that the dipping sauce was warmed. The beef chow fun was plentiful and it served my cravings but i could tell that it wasn’t wok fried. The bro really enjoyed his sweet and sour chicken with rice. We got jug of water and hot tea once we settled down. The bill was less than 30 dollars. The place is bigger than you think! The space goes around back on to the left and can definitely host a private function(though it might get hot). I’d come back! It’s right next to Snooks for dessert and you can go for a stroll through historic Folsom.

One of the Chinese restaurants in Sacramento County that is worth its salt. I love Chinese and basically all Asian food. This is the best since I left San Diego 23 years ago. So far Hop Sing is first overall. Check back as I keep up the search for the BEST Chinese restaurant in Sacramento County. KP

Fantastic Chinese Restaurant! It was my first time here and I was amazed. The inside of this place is cute and vintage/antiquish. I liked the décor. They have the funniest and friendliest employees. If you’re indecisive like me, they will help suggest some good dishes. There’s this one waiter I think his names Nathan or something and he’s really nice. Kinda cute too. The staffs here always check up on their customers to see if they need help or anything. Moving on to the food. Speaking of food. it is quite delicious. The portions are huge. I really really love their appetizers. The egg rolls, bbq ribs, tempura shrimp, wrapped chicken, and cheese wontons were all so tasty. As for the course dishes, my friends and I got beef chow fun, bbq fried rice(i think), chicken/shrimp/chicken crispy noodle thang, and pork something lol. I love how the food wasn’t really greasy. It was flavorful and tasted like authentic chinese food. no wonder there was a lot of people there. My friends and I all enjoyed the appetizers and dishes. I would definitely come here again! I wish they’d open one near my house.

Best. Cheese. Wontons. EVER! SITREP My sweet friend Bambi(aka Brandy) and I went antiquing today at the Folsom Antique Faire along historic Sutter Street. Good times. [And more on the antiquing in the NEXT review.] THESETUP After about an initial hour of checking out the vendors, it was already 1:00pm and neither one of us had eaten. However, right alongside all the Antique vendors spaced Sutter Street(and no doubt the diabolical mind of Bambi had already worked over this ingenius plan of proximity) is Hop Sing Palace! As it turns out, Bambi was first introduced to Hop Sing Palace by her mother who actually came here on dates with her father before they were married back in the 70s — basically even before Bambi was a glint in her parents’ eyes. THEMENU But whatever the traditions, and memories, and sentimental values that Bambi’s family has for this establishment, I’ve never had better Cheese Wontons! So let’s break it down: APPETIZERS * They give you a complimentary hot tea along with ice water, and which I enjoy since it is sort of a Ying & Yang of refreshing beverages; * And as alluded to above, we also had the appetizers of Cheese Wontons. They give you about 10 big stuffed delicious ones on the appetizer plate when you order, with a nice small bowl of sweet & sour sauce. MAINDISHES We decided to share our dishes with each other: * Bambi ordered the Broccoli Beef that came out with great talks of broccoli and the most succulent beef. * I ordered the Brandy Fried Chicken(since I enjoy poking jokes at Brandy/Bambi), and as far as fried chicken goes, it was great. But I wasn’t thinking and probably should have ordered a chow mein dish or something not fried, since we already had the fried wontons. Ce la vie. Live & learn. It was all delicious. THELOWDOWN Once of the best Traditional Chinese Restaurants I’ve enjoyed in Sacramento!
