We made our first but defiantly not last visit to this restraunt. We ordered soup, appetizers and two rolls. Everthing was beautiful and so delish! I ordered a very spicy roll it was art work of sure. Everything was amazing we could hardly finish it all. I can’t wait to go back.

I love this place! They have great food, ample portions and will accommodate my request if I want all broccoli tempura!

Was in town for sake tasting, what goes better with sake then sushi. We asked the sake pourer what good sushi places where around n she recommended this place. Now I’ll admit the food was pretty good but the service was the worse. Probably won’t be back here but will defiantly go back to the sake place.

Unfortunately came in with higher expectations for this place and left disappointed. We ordered a Kirin pint($ 4), a Sapporo pint($ 4), 6 piece sashimi($ 11.95), Baked Scallop Roll($ 9.95), and Spicy Salmon Roll($ 6.95). For the Sashimi roll, the Tuna was pretty good-soft and fresh. The salmon(which is usually my favorite) had a distinct fishy taste and didn’t have the melt-in-your-mouth texture that justifies the high cost of quality Sashimi. Albacore was okay. Overall average score. The Baked Scallop was okay though a bit bland, especially because the avocado was inconsistently stuff(some rolls had imitation crab only). For an unmemorable roll, not worth $ 10. The spicy tuna was simply disappointing. I realize it is the«budget roll,» but they were really scrimping on the spicy tuna. With only imitation crab and cucumber to augment the flavor, most of it was just rice taste. Service was okay-not too slow. They also asked whether we wanted miso soup, and despite forgetting it once, the complementary soup was a nice surprise considering we only ordered rolls. Overall did not enjoy the freshness of the sashimi or the tastiness of the rolls too much, so would not recommend with so many other options nearby.

Another average sushi bar. Rolls are big, but way too much rice and very little fish! Fish isn’t that fresh anyways so maybe that’s a good thing. Good service, so that’s a plus. But overall very mediocre sushi rolls.

I reserve 2 stars and below for places that really let me down. This place has consistently let me down, and here’s why: the food is run of the mill sushi, but the service is just painstakingly slow. This is because for some reason or another it’s staffed with one waiter even during the lunch hour. I thought it was a fluke until I went back two more times and experienced the same thing. It’s not the waiter’s fault, just something they have to work with due to management decisions

One of my favorite sushi restaurants. The chef’s specials look and taste amazing! The shashimi slices are thick and service is great!

Came here on Christmas eve(so it was pretty dead), but was definitely disappointed from my experience after seeing this place was rated 4 stars. I ordered the chirashi since it’s a fave at another sushi place. The presentation was magnificent and majestic. until 5 minutes later and my tongue had something different to say than my eyes. Most of the chirashi was actually just composed of rice that took up most the space and was covered underneath. It was also put together in a way that’s difficult to eat without thinking you’re gonna make all your food fall over onto the table. Fish was mediocre and didn’t taste fresh at all. I get that the price for the cuts sounds good. but $ 7 chipotle would’ve been better actually. Other than that, the tables and seats just kinda felt grimy and oily. On the bright side, service was good — the waitress made sure to ask if we were enjoying lunch. All in all though, would not come back again unless someone had a very convincing case to give it another shot.

Located across the street from Wal-Mart and next to Kohl’s. Soft rock music plays softly in the background with typical restaurant tables. There are two TVs in the restaurant. Sushi bar seats 5 – 6 and there are a couple of beers on tap with more in the cooler. Onto the reviews: Miso soup — not wonderful, pretty bland for something so typically good. 4⁄10 Chili Lime Edamami — wonderful spice rub with citrus pep. Definitely the way to go. 10⁄10 Gyoza — nice crunch with a thin shell. Great flavor and definitely worth ordering again. 9⁄10 BBQ Tuna — Tasty and Spicy, but I don’t care for the Terryaki sauce on the side. It is a very good dish and saves me a trip to Mikuni. 9⁄10 Volcano Roll — loaded with tobiko so I scraped it off. The roll was decent. Sweet with a good punch of spice. 6⁄10 Rainbow Bridge Roll — very pretty roll with red and black tobiko. Decent spice but tastes a bit fishy. 5⁄10 Natoma Station Roll — All I can taste is tobiko so not to my preference. 4⁄10 TNT Roll — Spicy and tasty, tobiko aftertaste so I’ll just remove that and I’ll be just fine. 7⁄10 Chicken Teriyaki — Insufficient portion size with high quality meat. My daughter says 9⁄10 but is still hungry Chicken Breast Teriyaki — Insufficient portion size with excellent quality meat. My son says 9⁄10 but is still hungry The mochi ice cream was delicious and makes my kids want to come back for more. All in all, if you like tobiko then you might enjoy the food. The staff is VERY friendly and has excellent service. I found everything a bit on the fishy tasting side indicating issues with their fish quality. I’d come back for the appetizers but wouldn’t order the sushi again. Sorry. :-(

I love their rolls. They are unique and DELICIOUS. I swear I’m mouth watering just thinking about their food. I always order rolls with fried soft shell crab and /or unagi. Service is a hit and miss. They are always nice, but usually they don’t scan the room often enough to see my hand trying to flag them down.

The sushi presentation is so exquisite! The fish is fresh. The size of the roll is very large! The deluxe rolls are about $ 14.95. They really take the time to make a distinguished roll and matching great taste. The customer service was excellent! They kept the water coming, and checked on us often. I would come back! I had a udon soup and we shared three rolls with a lot of left overs. The udon soup was a little skimpy on the broth but no problem there they brought out a cup of extra broth to even out the ratio of noodles to broth. Tempura was excellent! Most sushi places do this 50% off roll in Folsom NOT here but one roll here is enough and way better quality then one of those fancy sushi joints with 50% off. You get what you pay for. TRYTHISHIDDENGEM! The Volcano roll is excellent for spicy lovers and the rainbow roll was delicious for non spicy option. They also have an amazing veggie roll that was so good you forget that there is no fish! Four stars because the interior is very out dated and needs some updating. Five stars for food and service alone.

Top notch local sushi restaurant. Excellent presentation of sushi dishes. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. If you have a bigger group, I would recommend getting one of the sushi combinations to share.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants in the area. I haven’t had a roll that I didn’t like and mind me, I’ve had a lot of their dishes! I always know that my rolls will be presented in a picture perfect way, aka very Instagram worthy. Service is always great, it takes a while to get your food but perfection takes time guys. Colleen is one of my favorite waitresses. She’s quick, friendly and really knowledgeable of the menu! Some of my favorite rolls include the spicy sake lover, white dragon and natoma station. I’ve had a bite of the teriyaki chicken bento box and it was delicious! The bento boxes are worth what you pay for since you get a good amount of food. Appetizer wise, the chili lime edamame is something that you can’t pass up. They probably lace it with crack because their so addicting. The pepperfin is also a nice dish as well. Overall, I recommend this restaurant to all of my friends for the friendly service and delicious food. It can get pricey but it’s worth it for the quality of the food.

Finally found our place! The TNT roll and Volcano roll were awesome. The jalapeño on the Volcano roll fires it up more than expected. A bottle of cold sake was necessary;) The Escolare nigiri was fresh and melted like butter. The service was attentive. There were only a few other tables but overall the experience was great. This was not like Blue Nami where the tables were being turned quickly. I did not give this 5 stars because the calamari was not seasoned enough. This will definitely be a Sunday spot.

Kanpai is a nice Folsom gem, tucked away in a deserted shopping center with the corpse of Red Robin lingering only a hundred feet away. They have great bento deals for lunch as low as 6 or 7 bucks which really delights the tightwad Asian in you. I actually splurge when I go there and get the Chirashi for $ 13. The fish is pretty fresh and there’s a lot of variety. However, I don’t know where to put the freakin’ fake grass plastic thing and the pile of wasabi and shaved daikon. I usually just set them on a napkin on the table haha. Maybe a little empty dish on the side would be nice to set them on?(hint hint) I get a little worried when I see a nice restaurant sitting in the loneliest corner of Folsom, but they seem to be resilient and going strong. Please go there and make sure they continue to succeed!

I have given up on finding a decent sushi place in the Folsom area. So far all the sushi places I have tried in Folsom are average or below average. Even Kanpai sushi was no different. They have a special lunch combo menu, which would seem like a cheaper/better option. But it is actually not. Their 2 sushi roll combo for example comes with very basic rolls which tastes like the pre-packaged ones you buy from grocery stores. We got the 2 sushi roll combo and the California Roll– sashimi combo. Spicy Salmon Roll was ok, but the Spicy Tuna tasted like low quality fish. In hindsight, I should have probably ordered from their bento box menu.

I had finished a 8 mile run and was soooo hungry so my friend and I were looking around for eateries and found Kanpai! I love sushi and you can never go wrong with sushi after a long run right? Anyways, first time here and I like to compare a lot of my sushi to Mikunis or texas sushi restaurants because I’ve found that a lot of sushi places aren’t as great as those. The rainbow bridge roll is said to be really popular so we ordered that, however it wasn’t as great as the chefs special and I think the other roll we got was the Natomas station. It had seared albacore! The rainbow bridge and chef special were HUGE. They had more than the usual 8 – 9 pieces per roll. The décor is kinda off and during the day the ambience is really quiet, but maybe that’s because we went a little after they opened. Our waiter was awesome. He always came back to check on us and chef indirectly called us fat because we finished all 3 rolls! Awesome chef! I would definitely come back if it was closer.

SOEXPENSIVE, but so delicious. It was nearly empty when i came with my boyfriend, to this location. It was a solid sushi joint, but for 4 rolls our bill came out to roughly $ 70, which is bogus for the sub par ambiance and service! I don’t recall the names of the rolls we ordered, but I wouldn’t waste my money here again!
