1848

We go to Ala about monthly. I HAVE NEVER had a bad meal there. It is consistently good. Hostess, waiters /​waitress are always knowledgeable and friendly. One of our favs!

Went for lunch and no coffee, no fish, ran out of the soda a friend was drinking., fried pickles were greasy and not enough batter. Waitress has not been trained properly as took my glass for a refill and touch my straw with her fingers and grabbed glass from top instead of main area of the glass. Also two of us asked for chicken on our salads and was not added and she argued with us that we didn’t ask for chicken. Staff training is lacking. Streak sandwiches that were ordered were good as were the fries.

I was pretty impressed with the food. Not only was the burger I had good, but the fries were nice and hot. Even burnt my mouth a little. That’s how you can tell they were made right after you ordered. Not only that, but, unlike some places, they are very generous with the bacon on their burgers. Also… this is the only place I have seen that has CHEESE SANDWICHES for a bun. Thank you, Wisconsin, you are truly the land of cheese.

I can’t really speak to the cuisine here, as I didn’t get anything to eat while stopping by to purchase a gift certificate for a coworker for Christmas, but DAYUM!!! They have that Cranberry Moscow Mule locked down!!! :)

Good stuff

I was told about this place when I came back to visit for Christmas. I had high hopes. It was not that great.
The few perks are that the fried cheese curds are awesome. The fried pickles are also great. The bottled beer selection is pretty long. (Though, no ale asylum seems crazy)
But, my burger was pretty weak. The meat seemed very low grade and if your going to offer a cheese burger, at a minimum you have to melt the cheese y’all. I’m not a fan of stiff cheese on my cheese burger.
Although, the one thing I liked about the burger was the bun.
The beer Tap selection was extremely disappointing. Half of them were pbr, Miller, bud…
The waitress was very nice and checked up on us a lot. My one issue is that her knowledge of the long list of bottled beer was pretty much zero.
Also there was sort of a odd smell to the place. But I know this building has gone through a lot of different bars and 1848 is new, so that might just take time to clear.
I was hoping for something a little nicer but my meal just seemed like another Sysco meal.
I’ll give it another shot next time I am around and try something else. But my first experience was very mediocre.

Stopped by today and had a Philly cheese steak sandwich with a salad. Both were superb and fresh. I then learned from the owner (I think it was) that the fresh greens were from a local farmer as well as the mushrooms. They try to buy local and fresh as much as possible. The chef came out to deliver my «to go» dinner for my husband. I complemented him about my dinner and he said after many years of working in an Italian restaurant he had learned many tips. He also appeared to take great pride in his food prep skills. Give this restaurant a chance. We need variety in Fond du Lac for restaurant choices. If we continue to only support the few we mostly go to that is all that we will have.

Delicious fish fry and cheese curds! Went with large group, had great service, and enjoyed their freshly muddled old fashions. Thought the menu was reasonably priced, especially considering they use local, quality, ingredients. Will definitely be going back soon! Also, I read previous review and noticed no weird smell

Great food, especially the cheese curds, best I ever had. Fried pickles were a treat. Friendly atmosphere, great service. We will be back.
